Open for lunch and Dinner, Sunset Terrace is our iconic upscale, classic restaurant featuring traditional American cuisine, with an emphasis on hand cut steaks, seafood and regional favorites and an award winning wine list. Located on the outdoor terrace of the 100 year old Main Inn, it offers breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a setting and experience that you will always remember.
"The food, service and view/ ambience were all very good. What a gorgeous day! The only disadvantage is that it is in a large resort so you have to contend with resort/ hotel/ convention guests. Other than that, it is an excellent venue and very historical!"

"We love the beautiful sunset views of the mountains from this scenic restaurant. Cocktails were just as we ordered. We shared several small selections. The shrimp cocktail with huge, delicious shrimp and the steak tartare were wonderful. Disappointed with the overcooked, dry portobello mushroom entree and after dinner expresso was not available."

"We traveled to Asheville from Miami for our Anniversary, and happily, my wife found this gem of a restaurant! While I normally avoid hotel restaurants, this was a delightful experience. It was pretty chilly, and starting to rain, so we were a little hesitant about eating outside. Also, outside dining is usually kind of casual, and I wanted a nice atmosphere for a special occasion. The staff was very helpful in locating a table which was right under their heaters, and out of the rain. The vibe of the terrace is very up-scale, so that worked well. The food was exceptional, our waitress was pleasantly attentive (and gave helpful suggestions for other things to do in Asheville), and the whole evening was a hit!"

"I have dined at The Sunset Terrace several times and I can say that it just gets better everytime! Our service was wonderful, food excellent and the view was unbeatable. My grandmother's maid could make biscuits that melted in your mouth, but these biscuits are.....heavenly:)."

"I have been to this restaurant 4-5 times in the past two years and it never disappoints. The service and food quality is impressive. The trout and steak were cooked to perfection and the view of the mountains is breathtaking.
There were several special occassions going on (prom/wedding) and they just seemed to blend in with the others.
I will continue to make it a point to eat at this place when I visit Asheville."

"The atmosphere was nice, but the food was way over-priced for what we received. The steak and other meal were somewhat tasty, but it could have been priced one half of what we were charged to be justified."

"I hope this was not a typical day. The noise level was unacceptable since there was a jack hammer going during the lunch. I have eaten there in the past and enjoyed it but did not en joy it at all on Friday."

"Sunset Terrace just reopened after undergoing a bit of a facelift. Honestly, I didn't notice a big difference, which is a good thing. It is still a wonderful restaurant, with a view that is hard to beat. It's basically a steakhouse, so not exactly a creative menu, but everything I've ever tried has been very good. My only complaint is they have a very high corkage fee, $25. I can't imagine they have many guests that bring their own wine, and given how much the entrees cost, it's not like they are taking a bath if you don't order wine off their list. And since most guests are staying at the hotel, you could just order several things to go, go back to your room, or pick a quiet spot on the grounds to eat and enjoy your own wine."

"My daughter and I were celebrating her college graduation. We sat right at the porch wall, overlooking the beautiful mountain vista on a gorgeous, warm evening and watched the sun set while eating a delicious meal! Our server was professional and friendly. Perfect night!"

"I will not go back to the Grove Park Inn. We met our 2 daughters there for Mother's Day Brunch. We had 3 cars. We were charged $7 per car to park our own car on the property. It is insulting to pay the high prices for a meal and to have to pay to park on the resort's own property. Service was mediocre, at best. Definitely slow."

"The view is God made therefore it was beautiful and breathtaking. Menu was ordinary. Desserts - have had better at lesser frestaurants, were that of cafeteria style. We were seated under heaters while other tables for 2 were available. We were charged a 20% service charge as if we would have left without leaving a hefty tip. It is obvious they are not confident that the customers will be satisfied therefore, by adding the sesrvice charge it is guaranteed a tip is left. We left additional tip for the waitress, it is not her fault she works at the ST of the GPI. My meal was very hard to cut and chewy. Parking was an additional $7. My drink was delicious but expensive. My husband's first drink was great, the second drink was watered down."

"To begin, we ordered the Caesar salad to share. I ordered rack of lamb, medium rare and she ordered the lobster tail. We also ordered the fingerling potatoes and spinach with egg to share. To begin, what we each got was a small Caesar salad and a half of a lobster tail. Duh! So the wait staff took it back and we then received the correct Caesars salad. When the entree arrived, rack of lamb was cooked well done not medium rare. Duh! Waiter took my whole plate of meat, potatoes and spinach and sent it back. The manager on duty brought back another plate with the rack of lamb correctly cooked but without any of the side dishes of spinach or potatoes. The waiter noticed this and brought another order of the potatoes and spinach. Not cool!"

"The Mother's Day menu on the terrace was not very good food. The steak was terrible and one of our party could not eat it. The fish was way overdone so that it was tough."

"First allow me to rave about your staff. Mr. Trevor Allen was absolutely outstanding in his willingness to assist in answering our needs. He took my wife and me in hand and largely due to Mr. Allen our dining experience at the Sunset Terrance was made more memorable. Then there was Sidney our waitress/server. Her personally and friendliness coupled with great professional awareness provided another memorable step on our ladder for a successful evening Grove Park Inn. The food was exceptional. I am a steak person and the rib eye was one of the best I ever had. My wife and I fell in love with your light flakey biscuits. I'm going to try my best to duplicate the recipe. I hope you use the biscuit in a strawberry shortcake offering."

"We got there early, but they were able to seat us right at a perfect place overlooking the valley. This is nice to be on the end, but should the stormy weather kick up a bit, no doubt we would have been wet, but the weather held and we were fine. The service was prompt, food exceeded expectations. The waitress poured the first glass of wine, but we poured the rest, for a $80 dollar bottle of wine, one would expect that little level of service.
A nice place to go for a special occasion, but be sure to bring your unfilled credit card as the meals are expensive and tip is automatically added. Oh yea, $15 to valet park to boot."

"Overall a disappointment especially for the amount we paid. Fish, simply grilled and good portion, was unseasoned. Side of mushrooms bland. Service was extremely slow. Very inattentive from the ordering, to bread, to drinks, to the long wait on our food. Seated at 830 & had to speak with manager at 1000 after not receiving our meals. Not sure if they lost our ticket & never explained to us. Definitely not worth the over $225 we spent for two. We wanted to stay at the hotel for a nice evening. Was a nice view and ambiance. Wished we had gone elsewhere."

"Lovely setting and view, best part of the evening. Service was okay, food was okay - nothing special, but should be considering prices and that it is Asheville. A chop house should also know how to cook steaks unfortunately they managed to over cook all 4. Our out of town guests always look forward to a GP dinner yet were so disappointed will not return."

"I found the menu choices to be lacking. We had the salmon and big eye tuna. Though we found them to be fresh they were lacking flavor as prepared. The other menu choices did not separate the Sunset Terrace from any other restaurant. In fact our other dining experiences in Asheville were full of flavor and wonderful choices. The menu seemed to follow the same dull choices as a Del Frisco or Ruth's Chris. Same dull side choices, same dull sauce choices. View and atmosphere were outstanding. The menu just did not match the view."

"Dined here before and love the Grove Park and Sunset Terrace. Food and service are always excellent. Our day (Sunday, May 5, 2013), the weather was bad - cold, rainy and windy. Usually Sunset Terrace has indoor seating, but the inn was being remodeled. I would have thought GP would have offered us alternative seating especially as the weather was bad. Ate lunch with our coats on and were the only people dining. Outdoor ceiling heaters did little to stop the wind and chill. With the 20% gratuity added to the bill, I thought an "extra" for our inconvenience because of the remodeling and the weather would be nice, or even an offer to switch to the Blue Ridge Dining Room for indoor dining."

"We only ordered two courses, and were at the restaurant from 7:30 to 10:00pm. We would probably have ordered dessert and coffee, had service not been so slow. We expected a leisurely evening, but we did not expect such slow service. Especially for the price we paid, we were very disappointed. We expect much better from a first-class restaurant."
