McCormick & Schmick's is in the heart of D.C.'s business district, just two blocks from The White House. Widely regarded as the place to see the city's most famous and notable names, it has distinguished itself with a fresh-daily menu of more than 30 seafood and fish selections from around the world.
Its lively bar features the best shoe shine in town and a happy hour noted by the Washington Business Journal as "phenomenal" and voted "Best Seafood Restaurant" by Washingtonian Magazine readers.

"Reservations for 4 on Mother's Day evening started out with a great hostess. That was the high point. The wine cooler had failed and there were no chilled white wines available. The menu was different from the restaurant at National Harbor and the one at F Street. Drinks were slow & problematic. A French 75 came sans lemon twist and was returned with a big chunk of lemon peel. A deluxe Margarita was missing the salt and a 2nd glass had to be brought. Salads were good but warm. 2 tuna specials and the pecan catfish were great, but the potato crusted cod special was bland and tough. The mustard sauce added no spice and what little flavor it had came from a mysterious strip of what seemed to be ketchup. Table service was slow and infrequent."

"Just wish the kitchen could be somewhat faster in getting the food to the table. I used the restaurant for business luncheons, but even though the waiting time is spent talking business and pleasure, like times before, I catch myself looking at my watch wondering when we'll be served. I guess I could tell our waiter we need to be served as soon as possible, but I don't want to be rushed through the lunch. To me there is a fine line between having to wait longer than we should to be served, and what would be considered being rushed."

"This was the first time I have been to this restaurant chain and was pleasantly surprised. I had the scallops with crab hash and spinach and it was excellent. We also shred the calamari appetizer which was also excellent. The waitress was well versed in suggesting the wine choice when asked. The peanut butter pie was very good;although, it would have been excellent without the drizzle of carmel all over it. The Carmel sauce made it too sweet. I enjoyed our window seat so I could people watch."

"hmmmm....the seared crab cake was not hot, the yellowish sauce was tepid and flavorless. I had the buttermilk shrimp which were excellent, however the fries weren't hot and were limp. The coleslaw was limp and soggy with no flavor. My friend had the stuffed shrimp which she said was great, but the potatoes and other sides were only fair. Were we suppose to get bread with our meal? Noticed other tables receiving bread. My bill was $89.90 and I gave a $10 tip. I felt like i had been duped."

"From the moment we came through the door, we felt special - we were greeted warmly and immediately seated at a table near the windows. Great street view - this is a very active and fun part of the DC scene. Our waitress immediately asked if we wanted drinks and they were delivered to us within minutes. The Menu - WOW- the menus have so much to choose from, we took a few minutes to decide. The appetizers were delivered within minutes-and were great!!! The entrees were hot and wellcooked-and very, very good. Everyone loved the food. The desserts were to die for! Very creative and not the "same old DC dessert menu"-take a look online at their menus and you will see different fare than elsewhere! And we never felt "rushed.""

"The hubby and I dined here for dinner and enjoyed our experience. Sunday afternoon (before dinner and after lunch) so there were no crowds, though I'm sure Sundays are probably light in terms of crowd anyway; we were seated immediately. I ordered the ribeye and it was juicy and flavorful. My husband ordered the filet mignon with an add-on lobster tail (only other surf and turf option was steak medallions and lobster and he wanted a filet). He complained about the size but thought it was cooked well despite this. Solid meal; no complaints from me."

"The fish entrees we ordered were good not great. They were fresh, but lacking in flavor. Part of it was that they didn't oversalt their food, which is really great and I so appreciate, but it was otherwise bland with no other flavoring. My husband's parmesan encrusted flounder had no parmesan flavor and was very greasy. The service and ambiance was excellent, although we sat near the bar, which was noisy. We have eaten here a lot, and it is usually better, so we will not stop coming. Maybe it was an off night."

"Second time we've been there. Food is very good our waiter Vinnie, was delightful and knowledgeable about the food and wine list. As the night went along and busier he was spread very thin amongst his tables. The bar staff had trouble finding the bottle of wine we selected. I gave the food a very good and not excellent due to the fact I feel the portions were on the small side for the price you pay. but the food was superb. The coast to coast tuna appetizer was outstanding. Three of us got the King Salmon special with an arugula pesto over asparagus, perfectly cooked. Two at our table got the steak and lobster tails and the other two had the atlantic stuffed salmon, all the dinners were great."

"My husband and I drove up from Raleigh, NC to meet his visiting cousin from Germany in D.C. As I had had previously good experiences with this restaurant, we chose it to have our first dinner with our visitors. Our server was waiting on a lot of tables, and though I might have said that due to this, he seemed overworked, he honestly didn't seem to be trying that hard. We ordered 2 bottles of wine to start. The first probably took 20 minutes to get to us. We were told the 2nd was being brought up. That was another 20 minutes. In this time, he never came back to get our appetizer order, nor was any bread delivered to our table? After about 45 minutes at the restaurant, my husband finally asked him if we could get some bread."

"We have eaten at this McCormick & Schmick's two times this year. Very pleased with the service and food. We will become regulars here! The stuffed salmon is awesome...and so are all of the desserts:) My friends very equally pleased with their dinner choices both times."

"They have changed the interior and the menu and not for the better. I was there with a party of 6 from work including the owner of my company and they put us in a "room" with a table for 8. The server had to pass everything over the people sitting closest to the entryway - this included drinks and plates! It was very awkward. 3 of us ordered the chopped salad with chicken at my recommendation as the chopped salad in the past was great. The prior chopped salad had blue cheese, hearts of palm and many other ingredients; the new version was an entry size at $17 for lunch and it was basically lettuce with a dry piece of chicken on top. I will find other lunch spots in the future."

"I found out McCormick & Schmick is under new ownership and you can tell. If you expect the McCormick & Schmick of years past you'll be very disappointed!! First they have turned the bar into a loud disco music playing mess and service from the kitchen is also a disaster!! Service was so bad the manager had to comp my entrees because my date and I were ready to leave … do yourself a favor the old steady McCormick & Schmick’s gone go someplace else for dinner."

"We had made reservations and so were seated right away. However the table seated after us without reservations were waited on about 5 minutes before our waiter appeared. The food was good, although the Lobster Bisque was absolutely the best part. The wine was good, but pricey for the quality. Our waiter brought me someone else's meal. Luckily I noticed before I touched it. Then my husband had to ask 3 times for A-1 before he got the bottle. We thought maybe they poured it in a special container, which is why it took so long. The worst part was the paper placed over the white tablecloths. Totally ruined the "classy" ambiance and screamed "we are pinching pennies.""

"Hard to imagine this place will be around much longer. With a K Street location you'd think the food would arrive relatively fast, but instead it was a 70 minute odyssey to get basic lunch fare. Entree chopped salad had 4 tiny shrimp and a lot of lettuce for 17 dollars. And, I kid you not, there was on odd clump of bacon, maybe representing a quarter of a strip."

"It's a shame as this used to be one of my favorite places to eat. We've noticed, over the years, that the quality and variety on the menu has changed as the restaurant has become more chain and less restaurant. This time, we found service to be slow and inefficient (40 minutes from order to entree and then one of us didn't get served. The emergency plate that came 7 minutes later was fresh, but too hot to eat). When the bill for four with drinks and dinner approaches $400, you have a right to expect much, much better. Sadly, I'm done with McCormick and Schmicks. Perhaps the tourists can save it."

"Server was a bit slow getting to our table when we were seated. Server did not have any clear menu recommendations when I asked. My friend ordered a combination platter which included shrimp prepared two ways and a grilled salmon fillet. The slamon seemed to be overcooked an dry. Did not see the server for the majority of the meal. Did not get water refills when glasses were empty. Not an overall favorable dining experience for the cost."

"I work in the area so I have lunch at M&S a few times per week, have also gone in for dinner a few times. At lunch, the servers know when you're trying to talk with who you are with; giving good service without being overly present. At dinner, the service is still great, but more attentive. It suits the situation. Strange, robot scripts for the wait staff but it gets the job done. The food is spot on as well. The Executive Chef for the whole of McCormick & Schmick's works in this particular kitchen so you know extra care is put into each dish. The menu also varies here for that reason. They recently added Lobster Bisque to the menu, fantastic. The dining rewards program that the server will try to get you into is legitimate, not a ploy."
