Located in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, directly across from the historic City Hall and on the renown Avenue of the Arts, McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant features over 30 varieties of fresh seafood flown in daily from around the globe. The two level restaurant features traditional white tablecloth dining in dark wood paneled rooms accented by handcrafted stained glass ceilings and mosaic tiled floors. The popular, lively bar features a selection of micro-brewed beers and ales, regional wines, single-malt scotches, fresh squeezed juices and hand-shaken cocktails. McCormick and Schmick's serves lunch Monday through Friday, dinner seven days a week and offers a $1.95 bar menu twice daily. Reservations are encouraged.

"This place is an excellent seafood restaurant. I was treating myself to a nice birthday dinner and they were very attentive. I realy appreciated their kindness, the champagne and the freshness of the seafood! It was really nice to talk to some of the managers, aside from getting updates from future events directly from them. I love the fact that I've tasted several items of their menu and they are incredibly consistent with the seasoning of their dishes, along with their commitment to quality. Thank you!"

"One of the worst waiters I've ever had at a restaurant of that quality. He barely spoke, never made eye contact.... Never checked on us for drink refills (I was drinking wine and my daughter soda). He brought us the check without asking if we wanted anything else (ie coffee?) Anything we needed required flagging him down or asking another waiter to get him. The restaurant was only about 80% full, so that wasn't the problem. This guy just made no effort or stepped in off the street to fill in for his buddy and had no idea what he was doing. I'll go back to M & S because of the reputation of the restaurant and because I really think he was just a "bad egg" and not representitive of the restaurant."

"Perhaps it was a bad night, but our main course came before the salad. The waiter did take it back and said he would have chef make a new meal, rather than warm up what he had brought (I can't verify that). He told us the pantry "blew-up" (he said the pantry is where they make the salads). Our coffee also arrive cold. He did offer to comp us (and did replace one cup- I had already finished the expresso).
Very surprising, as the restaurant did not appear to be busy. With so many good restaurants in Philly, I doubt I'll be back."

"We were a table of four. Every person at our table had a mistake made on their order. The service was horrible. It wasn't even that crowded that would help explain the pathetic service. "I have been to McCormick and Schmicks several times and enjoyed it each time. However, the Philly restaurant was a let down on this night with slow service, salmon that had to be sent back 3 times to cook past rare and a glas of Merlot that obviously was held too long in the open bottle. Still love the fresh fish concept and the menu but not the execution on this night."

"Service was very slow. While they seated us on time for a 7 pm reservation we did not get our main course until almost 9 pm. Our server was very nice but very busy. "First timer, great solution to a seafood craving. Our server was nice, checking back every now and again. We had the Lobster Mac 'n Cheese, which was to DIE for! The gouda tasted great! We had two Assateague oysters. Very fresh. The cocktail sauce was delicious as well. For the entrees, my boyfriend got the perfect combo with a medium filet mignon, crab cake, and steamed veggies. Although the filet mignon was not cooked evenly, the entree seemed to please him overall. I had the seared tuna. The tuna itself was great, but I'm not sure I like the seasoning they put on the edges of the tuna before searing. They also added in a abnormally large piece of California sushi that tasted like SuperFresh ready-to-go quality. Overall, it was great!"

"The portions are small, but the food is excellent. I had the crab and shrimp did with pita chips for an appetizer, it was a small amount of dip with alot of pita chips, but it was very tasty. My entree was the stuffed salmon and it was tasty. Again the food is very good, but the portions are very small for the price. You would need an appetizer or soup/salad and perhaps dessert to feel full."

"We went for valenines day this past Sunday. We had a reservation for 12 but arrived at 11:45 The hostest took us to our table early even though the kitchen was not ready so we would not be by the cold door. Our Waiter Stephen was very nice and checked on us from time to time to make sure every thing was ok. I had never visited McCormick & Schmick's before but will not hesitate to go back in the future. The food was excellent and cooked perfectly and the staff seemed to really care about us. The resturant also had flowers that i ordered ahead of time ready at the table. This made valentines day perfect for me."

"5 business people went out for dinner. 5 business people were not that impressed! Monkfish, not good, Salmon was the best meal, the mac and cheese was good, too, however not worth the $6 price tag. "We celebrated Valentine's Day dinner at M & S's.The young waiter was very attentive and efficient. The only "complaint" which we had was that the barbecued shrimp would be more to our liking if cooked longer. We pointed this out to the waiter after the meal and he was very apologetic and offered to bring us another order.We declined as what we had was good just not very good. Management inquired twice during the meal about "everything". The prices were reasonable for the day's special in a center city restaurant."

"The service was immpecable! We had a 7pm reservation on Valentine's Day and we were actually seated 30 minutes prior to then, despite them being busy. Unfortunately, we were not impressed with the taste of the food; it was VERY bland. My steak had to be sent back, as it was not cooked to my specifications. Others in the restaurant, though, seemed to really be enjoying themselves."

"I made reservations here for a nice, quite valentine's dinner. I was expecting good food since I have heard good things from other people who have dined at other locations of this restaurant. I was grossly disappointed in the food. I ordered the lobster bisque as an appetizer and the best I can say is that it was edible. My main dish consisted of a loster tail, a crab cake and green beans. The lobster was totally overcooked, the crab cake was one of the worst I've ever had (and I order crab cakes often from various restaurants) and the green beans were on the verge of being raw. With all of the other choices of dining in the philadelphia center city area, I certainly will be taking this restaurant off of my list."

"This was my first time dining at McCormick & Schmick's. First impression of the restaurant was positive. The hostess was warm and welcoming and we were briefly seated at our table. Dimly lit dining room, however, elegant and spacious with high ceilings and various seafood themed decor adorn the walls, but done in a classy way. The tables were nicely spaced apart and we didn't feel like anyone could eve's drop on our conversation. The food was very good, and our fish tasted fresh. The real highlight in my opinion was the impeccable service. Our drinking glasses were never empty, he was very attentive, but not over-bearing, and our table was always promptly cleared when we finished our appetizers and entrees. Would definitely go again."

"This was my 2nd dining experience at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood. We went there for my boyfriend's 30th Birthday and if I have a say so in the future we will not be going back for 3rd's. Our waiter didn't know much about the Bar such as what was offered. My boyfriend wanted a Mai Tai and he said that the Bar didn't make them, we had to insist that he ask to bartender to only find out that they did. The food was just okay, I had coconut shrimp that were fried too hard and fries way too greasy, my boyfriend's mom also had fried shrimp that were way to salty. His 30th Bday experience was mediocre at best."

"This is my 2nd time here. My first time was in Anaheim, CA. The food was great. I ordered some King Salmon that was accompanied with veggies and I found the portion was a little small. After I ate dessert, I felt good.

Usually, in a seafood place like this, you should have an appetizer, then the meal and dessert to feel full. The quality and the diversity of the menu was excellent!!

I also found that usually they have a house special combo that gives you a steak, shrimp or other combo and that it all great to fill you up.

It's a nice place!"

"Overall it was a good experience. The service staff were very friendly and went out of their way. My friend order a scotch that they ran out of so the bar tender presented at the table with three alternatives to taste. Coincidentally, he ran into the same situation when ordering wine...the bar tender was there in a minute. All of our seafood entrees were fantastic. The only complaint is a delay in when the food was provided."

"McCormick & Schmick displayed outstanding quality customer service, from arrival throughout dinner and even to wishing you a safe night as we walked out the door. It is a roomy dining space with a romantic ambience that was charming. The food tasted incredible, however the portions of each course were smaller than we expected. We assumed it was because we were receiving the "Restaurant Week" portions, but having never been to the restaurant before, we weren't sure. We will ask around, because if these are the sizes one would get at regular prices, we all agreed we probably would NOT go back again."

"My dining was fabulous for both me and my date! My date, an out-of-towner, was completely blown away as it was his birthday and our menus indicated that with "Happy Birthday" at the top of the daily menu. The food was excellent, I'd recommend it to any of my friends. The Calamari is to die for, Chilean Sea Bass exquisite, and although the restaurant was very busy, the staff was more than attentive!!"

"My dining experience was fair overall. I visited McCormick & Schmick with a friend for Restaurant Week. Our waiter seemed very aloof and preoccupied with other things going on in the restaurant. "Not up to my expectations. I don't know if it was because it was restaurant week, but the food was just ok. I have to say it took entirely too long for a party of two to get the food to our table. "Not a great experience - we were first seated in a booth adjacent to the kitchen and the table was fixed in place, so neither my wife nor I fit at the table. Obviously this table was a last minute architectural anomaly only fit for extremely skinny people. The staff recovered well and we were reseated. Then I ordered mahi-mahi -- was told after our appetizer that they were out of the fish, and could I make a second choice. The waiter apologized on behalf of the chef who offered to buy desert -- desert showed up on the bill anyway and had to be removed. I only wanted plain, grilled fish, but the mahi mahi showed up with a miso sauce -- not bad, but not necessary. My wife had the mixed grill -- said it was OK, but a little cold. A bit pricey."

"Small portions, expensive restaurant. The food is very good but don't expect value for the money. We have eaten there before and had stellar service which adds value to your dining experience.

The service that night was terrible. We arrived at 6, before the place got crowded; there was really no excuse for the poor service. When the waiter was taking care of us, it appeared that he could have cared less. I actually had to track him down at 7:50(had a show to attend) to ask for the check and we hadn't even been offered dessert or coffee yet.

When you receive poor service you tend to pick the restaurant apart. Like I said, we have eaten there before and had a very nice meal. It just seemed expensive for what we got this time"

For the price you do get a chance to eat at a normally expensive restaurant but don't get a good amount of food for the price you're paying. "As someone who attends McCormick and Schmicks weekly for happy hour, I never thought that attending for dinner during restaurant week would have been as disappointing as it was. Our server was not pleasant. Yes, our reservations were for 10 pm but there was no reason for her blase attitude. After we ordered our meals the server told us there was no bread because the bread in the kitchen was hard. Not being told this before hand, one of the members of our reservation had ordered bruschetta, which was rock solid and non edible. When our entrees came out they were barely warm. My friends lobster ravioli tasted like it was drenched in turkey gravy and my fish was severely overcooked and bland. I left extremely disappointed and will not be back."

"We went to this restaurant for my sister's 40th birthday. Upon arrival, we were handed our menus. When we got to the table and actually looked at the menus we were pleasantly surprised to see 'HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY' across the top of the menu. A very special touch. The waiter also was aware of our celebration thanks to this special touch. The entire experience was remarkable including the delicious dinner. Excellent variety. Something for everyone."

"We arrived way too early for a noon reservation the first sunday of Philly Restaurant week. The hostess unlocked the door before we even tried it and welcomed us in out of the rain to wait in the bar until they opened. The Maryland crab soup was definitely spicy but very flavorful and full of crab. The caesar salad dressing was very creamy, romaine crisp and the salad not overdressed...thank you. The crab cake was excellent...no filler and big pieces of crab. The rice and vegetables on the side paled though. The bread pudding tasted very good but seemed drier than I expected and the apple pie just melted in your mouth...yum! I have been here before and I'll come back again!"

"My mom and I went here for our third visit since I have been living in Philadelphia. We went on a Saturday evening, had reservations and we even requested if possible, to be seated in a booth on the second floor, which the staff accommodated for, now problem! The staff is attentive, jovial and very friendly. The menu is amazing! Great seafood choices adorned with different flavors, but no so exotic. The restaurant has been a gem and we will definitely continue coming here in the future."

"I anticipated a good dining experiance having dined at one of the chain's Califrnia restaurances. The Philly experiance was most pleasant: one of the party had a dietary problem which was nicely addressed by an excellant waiter. The individual luncheons were all very well done and I particularly enjoyed the oyster selection. The decore of the restaurant is exceptional, alone worth a visit. "I have been to the Philadelphia McCormick & Schmick a number of times. There are tables on the first floor in a large open space that is very nice and good to see and be seen. On the second fllor there are rooms overlooking the first floor that are great for more private dinners and when you have young children. When I had dinner with my wife on our 25th anniversary, our menu had the date and "Happy 25th Anniversary" across the top. Most recently we had a dinner for ten in the Franklin room on teh second floor. Eah time we have had excellent service, terrific food and an ever changing menu with a wide selection. Thi sis my first choice in Philadel[hia."

"How hard is it to boil water????????????

We asked our waiter for tea. After three pots coming out luke warm, we gave up.
Our waiter, although enthusiasic used poor judgement in waiting for my fruit salad and not bringing our our lunch. We waited an hour for two sandwiches and two cups of tea.

"We had Christmas dinner at McCormick & Schmick's Philadelphia. I had a seafood combo, crab cake and grilled shimp. The side was a sweet potato casserole. The sweet potato casserole was barely warm and had to be sent back. I have eaten Crab cakes all over and their's was nothing to rave about. However, my 2 dinner partners were happy with their meal's (except for the sweet potatoe casserole). I, however, would not go out of my way to go back. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very prompt in replacing the "warm" dishes."

"We went to McCormick & Schmick's for New Year's Eve, because they had a pre-fixe dinner menu. Although we were a little late for our reservation, we were seated quickly.

The filet mignon & stuffed shrimp were delicious, as was the vanilla creme bulee I had for desert.

"Occasion was Anniversary. We were seated immediatly in the requested location. Service and food were very good. The whole fish was cooked well amd the calamari/peppers was also very good. Ambiance was directly related to our location which was upstairs and apart from the main dining space. Our order arrived timely and was hot and well cooked. Our Cranbery Sangrias were only fair/poor. Lots of ice and muddled cranberrys just served to clog the straws."

"I visited McCormick and Schmick's on New Year's Day. The staff are very accomodating to make sure we had a window seat to watch the Mummer's Parade.

They had a limited wait staff that day and the service was not as good as other times I visited. My son complained and the head waiter was very happy to apologize and extend two appitizers to us. We had a wonderful meal and drinks were great! I would highly recommend this restaurant. Good customer service is everything."

"We made a last minute reservation here when we found ourselves in Philadelphia for New Years Eve. We had champagne at the bar as we were early for our 10:30 dinner. Our table upstairs overlooked the prettily lit and famous City Hall and we had a view of the revellers on the square. Our starters and main course were lovely and fresh, the menu was interesting. We watched the ball drop at the upstairs bar with other customers and a whole family of Mc & S employees. Our wait staff was happy, friendly and efficient throughout this hectic evening. We had visited the McCormick & Schmick's in Portland, Oregon and remembered our good dinner there. We are very glad we did."

"Superb fresh fish. I had the monkfish in an herb broth with sun dried tomatoes--awesome taste. My only complaint was that for the price, the entree was light on monkfish--only two small pieces--and heavy on toasted garlic bread. My cocktail was as usual, second to none. Desserts were top shelf as well."

"Last year's experience brought us back...this year's will not. Service was extremely slow with wrong orders brought to the table, salad without dressing taken back and then served after the entree, multiple reminders to waitress about missing side orders, etc. Desserts were even a disappointment. Not only was the creme brulee half the size of the sample tray version, the chocolate decadence cake was terrible. It tasted a lot like dried up fudge.

Won't be returning to McCormick and Schmick's on a holiday again."

"My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant prior to going to the theatre that night. "We had Christmas dinner. Service was a little slow, which I blame on a busy night? The waiter was very pleasant though. The food was decent. My salmon was excellent quality, but I felt there was more sauce than I ususally care for. The crabcake was also good quality crab, but a little soggy. My husband had scallops and said they were quite good. Skip dessert though. The bread pudding was dense to the point of being tough and not worth the calories."

"We celebrated Christmas at McCormick and Schmink's in Center City Philadelphia this year. The food was delicious and the service very good. Two things that could improve is the Valet service. There should be someone inside the restuarant to deal with this and someone nearby with an umbrella - it was raining pretty heavily that day. Also, there was a man at the table next to us whose cell phone rang multiple times. He was talking on his cell phone during most of his dinner. It was quite annoying. I think the restuarant should ask patrons to turn off their cell phones in the dining room. Otherwise, it was a pleasant experience and will definitely return in the future."

"This restaurant has really slipped from only a few years ago. The caesar salad used to have fresh croutons, dressing and greens. Now it is croutons out of a box, dressing from a bottle and bagged greens. I can do that at home for one-half the price,
The waiter brought out a bottle of chardonay that we ordered. He pored the glass and then just set it on the table? Hello! Ever heard of an ice bucket?
We were originaly put at a table next to the noisy entrance to the kitchen. When we protested we were placed next to the noisy bar. The place was half empty!
The entree's were mediocre at best. The mussells had a distinct fishy smell. So much for the pledge for fresh.
This used to be a fabulous restaurant. I don't know what happened."

"Once again, we had a great experience at McCormick and Schmick's. Our waitress was very accommodating of our needs and desires; she waited for our orders until we were ready. Her conversation with us was appropriate and genuine. The food was outstanding! We chose to have a selection of appetizers as our dinner. My husband enjoyed several of each of the oyster selections from the raw bar. And I have never eaten such fresh, plump mussels. And I order mussels often. The suggested wine choices were a nice asset to the dinner. It was a great dinner!"

"Our group lunch was disappointing compared to a prior dinner visit. Service was clumsy and slow. The portions were very very small for the price. A $12 glass of wine produced about 1/3 of a glass. My "hot tea" came with water in the pot that was not even lukewarm!
One diner had a crabcake lunch entree that had nothing on the plate but one crabcake. I was described as including asparagus which sounds like a side order of asparagus. She questioned the waiter and he came back to explain there was some asparagus mixed into the crab cake! Bread rolls seemed stale and came half way through the meal. Only go here if you are on an expense account and not very hungry."

"Reservations were made a week in advance for six co-workers on my team for our annual holiday luncheon. "We went there for a special birthday on a Saturday; although the meal was outstanding, it seemed the kitchen was behind as we waited 1/2 for our meal and filled up with bread. Our waitress was very nice, but it seemed they were understaffed as we waited several minutes to get our dishes cleared and although we wanted coffee and dessert, we ran out of time to get to our show. We would absolutely go again, but perhaps not on a Saturday night."

"We had never been to McCormick & Schmick's before and were very excited, as it is one of the more up-scale hot spots in the city (Phila), in a great location right by City Hall. We found it to be a beautiful restaurant with courteous and exceptionally service oriented staff. I am so surprised and disappointed with the meal we had. The food, simply put, was just really bad. My partner and I both disliked our Maryland Crab soup, finding it to be too spicy. My Ceasar salad was terribly bland (I asked for extra dressing, hoping it would improve the taste). My meal was the salmon penne dish with a watery sauce that had a bit too much of a vinegary taste to it. My partner described his highly anticipated crabcakes as flavorless."

"The food at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood in Philadelphia was definitely just as good as I thought it would be. You can always expect consistently good food at any of their restaurants. However, the Philadelphia restaurant is special--located in center city, and an easy walk or cab ride from many of the nearby areas. The wait staff was excellent--very personable, knew a lot about the menu and wine list, and made sure we had everything needed. I will definitely go back and recommend it to others!"

"Food the excellent, both taste and presentation. Service was a bit slow and waiters were clearly novices- forgetting who ordered what, asking to remove plates several times before finished. Lively atmosphere, not the place for a quiet romatic meal, but great for a small group."
