McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Los Angeles
McCormick & Schmick's prepares fresh seafood in a traditional manner with a contemporary twist. Entering our traditional-style restaurant is like being transported to an earlier age. The hand-crafted walnut wood, beveled and stained glass create a warm, sophisticated atmosphere of a private club. Deep forest green carpets, crisp white linen and fresh flowers add the finishing touch. Although the restaurant seats more than 400, it has created an intimate ambiance with separate dining rooms and private booths. The restaurant's eleven private booths are a unique feature. They offer a perfect environment for business or romance. Each booth seats two to six guests and has its own old-fashioned style phone which can be used for complimentary local phone calls. There are three separate rooms to accommodate private parties: The Bunker Hill Room, The Club Room, The Library Room. These rooms are available for groups from 10 to 200 and are perfect for business meetings, tours, or dinner parties.

"Enjoyed the entire experience. The parking structure was easily accessible, the elevators and signs guided us quickly to the appropriate floors. The restaurant was quiet,efficient and relaxing. The entire group of 6 enjoyed our meals, portions were appropriate and tasty. To close off our meal we shared a few deserts and these too were great. We also enjoyed the outdoors space and took some pictures. Great experience."

"Finally made it to this M&S, so I've seen all of them in CA. The service could have been better with our waitress, but the food restored some confidence in the M&S chain. The lobster bisque was a pleasant surprise - one of the best I've had and the Chilean Sea Bass was also great. We were lucky to get in on a busy Mother's Day, but it was worth it."

"Got there early, and was seated immediately. I really like the private 2-person booths. I had the lobster cobb salad. It comes composed -- each ingredient separately layered and pressed into a cylinder. The compressed tower of salad is put on your plate, and then you sort of mash it down and separate it. It was a bit off-putting, because the lettuce was shredded. But the salad was delicious. I was very happy."

"A note to Open Table - pls list restaurant address as 4th & Hope, adjacent to 400 S. Hope St, same as restaurant's website. '633 W5th Street' as listed in Open Table got us went round and round many blocks for 10 mins till finally called the restaurant for directions, thanks."

"The service and cuisine was absolutely outstanding! We requested my favorite dinner entree for lunch......the scallops on a bed of spinach and potatoes with tomato pesto.....and our server was gracious to grant our wish.....as always, the scallops were exceptional! "Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table while group after group were seated ahead of us. The hostess kept telling us "they were setting the table", but when she finally took us there, they hadn't even fully set it up, so obviously she was lying. It took another 40 minutes for our order to be taken and the food delivered to the table. This was a lunchtime reservation, so needless to say we were rushed to eat and leave.
With so many options in downtown LA, it will be a very long time before I consider going back to this restaurant."

Had reservations for 6:15 PM arrived on time, explained we had tickets for an 8PM show at the Mark Taper forum. Ordered oour food the same time we place our drink order. After 1/2 HOUR...the waiter said the bar was backed up but the drinks should come soon. My mother, who does not drink alcohol.. didn't get her hot green tea till 7:20PM, 65 minutes after placing order. She also asked for a galss of water with no ice...which was delivered 1 hour after asking waiter"

"We were pressed to get to a concert that evening which we informed the server and hostess. The server cleared extra place settings and poured water and brought bread before entering the order, thus delaying its arrival later. We noted a discount coupon which he forgot to enter, They then entered the wrong amount based on our promotion but as it had gotten late we did not quibble. We ordered dessert well in advance to go; it came after dinner and after the leftover food was boxed up. We had requested plastic forks and that was forgotten. Basically the waiter ran very fast which looked like he was speedy but was not organized though friendly. Thus it took longer than even normal. The food was only fair."

"Have always enjoyed McCormick & Schmick. Went before Disney Hall show. Made a 6:30 reservation, when we arrived the hostess "had to make sure our table was ready" and ventured off into the dining room which is out of view from the hostess stand. She then cam e and escorted us back, lo and behold the restaurant was 40% occupied. Waitress came and took order after about 5 minutes, no water no contact. 90% of all M & S diners are going to the theatre. Order a bottle of wine, and our meal. After 20 minutes still no bottle of wine. It seems only the managers can access the wine room, and he was busy. Finally arrived and he apologized after we called it to his attention; nothing more. Food was eehh. Not worth the hassle."

"Lunch was really good and the employees were very friendly. Looking at McCormick & Schmick's everything was wonderful.
Unfortunately parking for my guest cost $27.00 and she was very upset, so I paid the parking bill, but she suggested she would not eat there again because of the high cost of parking in the area. Anyone looking to eat at the Los Angeles McCormick & Schmick's should be careful when parking in Downtown Los Angeles, some of the Public Lots charge as much as $3.50 every Ten Minutes and the signs are not posted clear and these are automated lots with no attendants at the entrance or exit, which can be confusing.
Overall, in my opinion, McCormick & Schmick's is a great place to do Lunch, Dinner and business."

"We have eaten here for many years before attending the theatre. This is the first time that we were displeased. The service has never been this poor. After we sat down it was 30 min. before our cocktail order was taken and served. Almost that long again before our food order was taken. We have always used the shuttle service to the theatre, which has been great. This time, however, we waited 30 minutes for our car to be brought on our return. They were putting all of the valet tickets on the counter, and not bringing the cars in the order the tickets were given them."

"It was especially busy that night. Seemed like they were short staffed that night, not sure if it was unexpectedly busy or someone called out. But even the maitre de was serving the food. Was disappointed our favorite waiter had to tend bar instead of providing his usual excellent service in the restaurant. Food was very good, service a tad slow. As this was not the usual experience at this restaurant, I would still recommend this restaurant as a excellent spot for pre-theatre dinner. Good value."

"Poor service, although likely not the individual server's fault but the result of the fact that there were not sufficient employees to staff even a quiet and empty Tuesday night. Because of the poor service, the food took far too long to arrive and was no longer hot but rather luke warm room temperature. For the prices paid, one should receive superior service. I have eaten there many times in the past but doubt I will return for what becomes an exercise in aggravation."

"Unfortunately, McCormick's has not benefitted from its newest corporate takeover. The quality of the food has declined markedly. The service, while still good, lacks some of its old feeling...perhaps because the staff has changed? At any rate, it now feels very much like some sort of mass-produced chain restaurant, and not somewhere we are likely to continue patronizing."

"M&S is a consistent dining experience. The servers are attentive and the service is fast, which is nice as we generally go here before the theater. The seafood is quite nice. I had the Ultimate seafood plate with two kinds of shrimp, scallops, and a nice piece of salmon, all prepared well, and not overcooked. My wife had the Trilogy Plate, which was also prepared well.
The valet parking which included a bus to and from the theater is a real concenience."

"We were disappointed in our food. We had been to McCormick's in Washington DC and it was so incredible that we decided to go here for our 37th Anniversary since we were going to The Ahmanson. My husband's trout was dry and the vegetables were overcooked. I had the Ahi Tuna and it was delicious but no sauce except soy was presented. "We opted to sit outide for our pre-theatre dining. It took a while before anyone came over for a drink order. Our first courses were brought out separately - supposedly because one was from the bar menu and my oysters from the dinner menu.
Our entrees were brought out with my rice looking deep fried! Fish was good, but rice hard as a rock. No one came by to check on us
to see how our meal was. Finally, I sent my daughter in the restaurant with the check since it was late. The server returned and when I mentioned the rice said, "oh, I will tell the kitchen.""

"This is a very large restaurant with a nice view of the streets below. We were there on a Saturday night and had the place almost to ourselves. On a weekend night, this is an excellent spot for a quiet, romantic dinner."

"We've been going here for a while now. Food and the wine can get a bit pricy, but it's a nice, intimate restaurant and the food is well-prepared. Service is attentive and courteous. If you go for dinner on a Sunday evening you're likely to have the place to yourself. I don't go, but I hear they have a great happy hour from 3p ~ 10p. They've been acquired by the Landry monolith, so who knows how that will affect the food, etc."

"We brought another couple for the first time to dine at the restaurant on a saturday nite after a play at the Ahmanson. The service was very friendly and accomodating. We were allowed to choose our own table by the window so we could have a view. The food was very good and had a nice presentation. The waitress was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The other couple were impressed with the restaurant ambience as well as the food and will plan on dining at your restaurant again."

"One of my favorite places to dine in L.A. The ambiance is wonderful. All of the wood adds to that rich feel; yet the expense is reasonable for what you get. They forgot about the special request I had made at the time I made the reservation, but upon being reminded, quickly accommodated my request. The almond-crusted rainbow trout with lemon butter was excellent, and my guest loved the Shrimp Pomodoro. I will definitely be back!"

"McCormick & Schmick's downtown has become my favorite upscale restaurant. The prices are better than a high-end steakhouse such as Morton's or Ruth's Chris, and the ambiance is elegant. I particularly like the small private dining areas that are equivalent to a room for four. I first found it as a place to eat before an event at the Music Center in downtown L.A. as there is a free shuttle bus that takes you to the Music Center four blocks away and returns you after the event. The service is always great, and the seafood, always perfect, moist and tender. For a true splurge, a friend and I had a lobster dinner, which we found fun and reasonably priced."

"I took my girlfriend to eat here for V day. The food was not that great. Lacked flavor all around. Some tables got bread but we didn't. I guess you have to ask for it? Service was spotty at best. Not very attentive. Steak came without steak knife. I saw a busser in the room only once. Took forever to get our martini and glass of wine. Theistic didn'tatch the venue or the bday occasion. I won't be back."

"Everyone's food was great. The only negative in this pleasant experience was the service. The waiter did not follow up with our drink requests. The drinks and the bread were late in appearing. He disappeared for quite a while and did not offer refills/second drink orders before the dinner arrived. He did not check the dinners--as I specifically requested no mashed potatoes and even went over the substituion possibilities, yet, my plate came with the aforementioned potatoes.
Luckily, the company was excellent and the comfortable booths offered privacy. Loved the restaurant's food and ambiance, however, the service could be improved."

"Scallops on a bed of potato hash with crab, tomato pesto and wilted spinach was delightful. Service excellent and the kitchen worked to accomodate a glutin free meal to one of our party and she seemed most pleased. We found several of our favorite, moderately priced wines on their list. Staff seems very cognizant of local theatre performance start times."
