"Fantastic, knowledgeable service, fun, unique bites, and a fresh of breath air in the bay area. Great to eat duck that is not duck confit and dim sum!"

"The food was excellent. Had a great salad w/medjool dates and citrus segements. The Lasagnette was great as well. Friends enjoyed the steak tartar and burgers. The service was a bit slow for a not particularly busy time. We had to tell 2 different waiters that we had a show to get to before they switched into gear. Overall a pleasant experience and will go back."

"Overall, the food was prepared very well & was quite delicious. We definitely enjoyed the charcuterie dishes over the entree dishes. The restaurant is a bit tight on comfy seating, so it is best to make a reservation in advance (like, at least 1 week in advance, because seats fill up fast). The restaurant gives off a cozy/friendly neighborhood hot-spot vibe. Noise level is very lively, & as I said before, the seating is a bit tight, so be prepared to rub elbows. Putting up a privacy curtain around the front door is a very courteous & delightful touch, so the patrons do not feel the chilling draft when other nosy patrons mistakenly leave the restaurant door propped open. Very friendly & satisfying service/wait-staff to top it all off."

"Started with the charcuterie (x5) and each item was delicious and carefully presented. Shared two entrees between 3 people - the rabbit with polenta was gorgeous, and duck with eggplant unusual and delicious with a crispy skin. Desserts were a stand out. We tried the beignets, panna cotta and trio of ice cream - each one was superb. Nice portions sizes - we were satisfied but not stuffed. Single server did a great job. The only thing that took away from the evening was a super noisy group on the communal table in the middle. Not the restaurant's fault, but it was lovely when that woman left!"

"We wanted to show our French visitors the Mission District so we started with dinner at Beast and the Hare before walking the streets to see local clubs etc. They loved the Wild Hog wine and bacon burgers!"

"Its the hare I tell you loved the rabbit polenta, the trout wasnt bad either, but the hare won this race. We had a mix of the appetizers which were good perosonlly I really liked the duck. The bone marrow was a nice little added touch to mix. But, overall I would have to say the food was very well prepared. Place was not too crowded, so I guess that made things a little more mangeable for the waitresses. Speaking of ours was very versed on the menu and what choices would go together for a better dinning experience. Kudos to the staff!!!"

"the food was amateurish at best. the rabbit dishes were a huge disappointment. the salad was silly. the pesto sauce was gritty. it is as if there was no chef in the kitchen. although very nice, the waitresses were 1980's madonna wannas' & showed that this restaurant does not take it's food seriously."

"It was a great pre-show dinner for Marsh theater. The food is very decadent and rich...we had the charcuterie board with rabbit ciccioli, smoked duck breast (yum!), and pate de campagna. It was all good. Then the bone marrow gratin that was omg rich and delicious with excellent onion relish condiment to balance out each fatty bite. The place is popular and we got there early and service was quick. Burgers were ordered medium and came out medium-well, very cooked inside (not a hint of pink) and charred outside. Good fries.
The only thing to watch out for is they mis-counted our beers (they fixed it) and they charged more than the menu price for each one (they wouldn't fix it). Great food and will be careful to check the bill next time."

"The trout and white bean dish was fab, salads good, but the lamb ribs difficult to eat and fatty, though a new order was happily provided. Service was attentive."

"We placed our selves in the hands of Aurelia after a short chat. We were glad. She Rxed Her favorites, suggested we share it all & brought it at a nice pace and didn't hang around too long . Very Cool & different. You can really taste the difference between all the meats due to restrained use of spices. All the pickled things are an exciting contrast! & best of all there aren't any vegetarians or vegans bothering the waitstaff We'll be back!"

Somebody recommended it. It seemed like a nice idea. The butter lettuce is small and oily. By that I means they drench the salad in dressing. Which is I guess OK for a pub but I like non drowsed salad.
The house Charcuterie is very nice. But basically this is just a board with some cut meats, pickles and toast.
The Kobe steak was $27 for a few pieces of meat.
So all in all, if you want some fancy food in small portions at a pub. Then it is all you. Personally since I can cook and I am especially gifted in slicing salami and pastrami while serving myself a beer. I don't think I would go back due to the high prices.
However this place is miles and miles better than the usual pubs/bars you have around and is an ok mix alb"

"I went to this restaurant on a Friday evening with two other friends. The restaurant was very full, so make sure you have a reservation to avoid disappointment. Even though they were very busy the waiters would top up our glasses constantly with the drinks that we had on the table which was nice. The food was so good! We had a trio of meats for starter (duck, salami and the rabbit pâté) and then the rabbit ragout for main. It was absolutely delicious! Super flavoursome! Unfortunately we had no room for dessert because all of us cleaned our plates! Definitely recommend!"

"Fantastic food! Noise level was high, and service was spotty, but the food was really amazing. Special shout out to the charcuterie. Next time we go, we're just going to order all those tasty bites! Rabbit ragu over polenta was delightful. A bit broader range of desserts wouldn't hurt."

"Amazing food. We ordered the charcuterie (highlights: whipped rabbit and pâté; lowlight: lardo) as well as the rabbit ragu (subtle but exquisite flavors) and the lasagnette (homemade pasta with to-die-for duck bolognese). No room for dessert, but those looked good too. Yum!"

"The rabbit was the best I have ever had. The osso bucco fell off the bone and was absolutely delicious. We drank a bottle of very well priced Sicillian wine that was perfect with both dishes. Finished off with caramel salted pan a cotta which was to die for! We will definitely be back."

"What a great find. The small menu allowed the chef to excel. The rabbit was outstanding-wonderful blend of flavors-very rich-a great main dish to share. The kale & squash warm salad was different and tasty. Beer and wine selection was thoughtful-really complemented the food. Excellent choices of pate, dried meats. We will return."

"We really enjoyed our meal there. The waitress forgot our two glasses of sparkling wine that came with our appetizer, yet despite that, we would still come back and recommend the place to our friends. The food was great and the staff was friendly."

"This is one of the quirky places sprouting up all over SF.Our group of six were seated promptly, which isn't always the case on Sat. night in the Mission, even with reservations. (Please not that we went early, 6:15 PM.) However, there seemed to be only one (overworked) waitress, and she had attitude, so I rate the service only Fair. The food ranged from Very Good: a whole branzino, a tasty rabbit ragu over polenta to Fair: an overly-salty pork chop. The star of the charcuterie plate was the chicken liver pate, we all agreed. They offer a good selection of beers & wines.Would I return to Beast & the Hare? Yes, preferably on a weeknight, but I'd call and check out the menu first - and tell my waiter to tell the chef to go easy on the salt!"

"Host/hostess - absent Noise level - loud Service - 1) No acknowledgement by anyone on the staff until waiting for about 5 minutes 2) The server was abrasive throughout. Felt rushed the entire time we were there. 3) She didn't make note of our orders and had each of us repeat our entrees aloud as the utensils were passed out. 4) Pasta type was substituted for the lasagnette without a courtesy heads up. Food - Hit and Miss: The charcuterie (especially the rillette and pate), bone marrow, bucatini w/pesto and duck bolognese pasta were delicious. Rabbit ragu, burger (cooked medium well instead of medium rare), oysters, and pork chops were just okay.
Poor service experienced will likely keep us from coming back."

"This is the second time I've been here for dinner. The food is well-prepared and hearty. I came here for Valentines day. The plates were adequately sized and given the food is pretty rich, we were comfortably full.
I would definitely return here for a nice, casual meal."
