"The Ribeye was great but the service was terrible. I was embarrassed to host a business dinner here because the service was so terrible. It took 30 minutes to get drinks. I had to search for our waiter anytime our table needed something. I'm not the one to complain but I was far from impressed. I will be using another restaurant in the future."

"Lovely dining room and excellent service! I had the peppered crusted swordfish which was cooked to perfection although a bit heavy on the pepper. Husband had the strip steak which is usually excellent there, but was a bit tough this time. We like to go there for special occasions and will continue to go"

"Good food. Service when we arrived very disorganized even though we had a reservation.
Did not feel welcome. Upstairs dining room rather bleak and very noisy as there are no rugs or drapes to absorb sounds.
Would not eat up there again . Downstairs bar much cozier."

"After having a not-so-good experience last year at Wine Week, four of our friends refused to go this year but two of us decided to give it a try again. So glad we did! There is a new manager now and our waiter. Daniel, could not have done anything more to make our lunch fun, pleasant, and, of course, delicious. To top it off at the end of our lunch, presented both of is with a complimentary piece of birthday cake, and it wasn't even our birthday(s). Can't wait to return!"

"Whether to treat someone special or merely self-indulge, Smith & Wollensky is among my favorite spots in the country.
The service is always considerate & professional, the food is reliably delicious & top quality, and despite it's outstanding "steakhouse" credentials, S&W is not so masculine as to project "Men Only." From the Big Apple original, the restaurant displays appealing artwork enhancing a dignified atmosphere. Go ahead: broker a deal or have a date, S&W will accommodate a power occasion or relaxed meal."

"I have been to a few top shelf steak houses, so as a matter of full disclosure I will declare my bias for The Capital Grille up front, and use it as comparison (along with other steak houses) for this review. The good: waiter was nice, professional, everything you should expect from a $$$$ place, steaks were good, mac and cheese was excellent. Bad: the side room was quaint, but poorly furnished (no $$$$ opulence/decor) and had a FULL VIEW of the kitchen at work. WHY??? The temperature of our steaks were reversed, but it was valentine's day and I didn't want my girlfriend to eat alone and then wait for me. My mistake. The steak au poivre isn't the real thing (no cream), and we had to share elevators with food carts missing waiters."

"7:30 reservation and wasn't seated until 8:00. Took 30 minutes to get bottle of wine. Steaks took 1.5 hrs and had to be sent back because they were between medium well and well done with a medium rare order. We weren't even offered a desert menu. Way way overpriced for the bad experience. Close to half of all tables walked out before getting their food. What a Valentines Day disaster. I don't think they'll be in business much longer with all of the better competition."

"Located on westheimer overlooking the river oaks shopping area, this restaurant is beautiful. It is great for a romantic dinner or if you are trying to make an impression. I always order the porterhouse for two which is the perfect portion for two starving meat lovers. The cream spinach is also a side not to be missed. Excellent service, fantastic staff. The steak itself is cooked better than other steak places of the highest caliber. We were celebrating our anniversary and was rewarded with dessert and champagne. Highest recommendations."

"Arrived at 8:00 for 8:00 reservation. Sat down at 8:50. Waiter dropped by to ask for drink orders immediately then disappeared until 9:10. At this point, he refilled our water and finally took our order. He was gone again until our food arrived at around 9:45. Both steaks were overcooked but one was edible. Sent the other back. Once fixed, food was very good (steak / lobster / sides) although they forgot to send appropriate utensils for lobster consumption. Desert was good but not memorable. Overall, a $250 dinner that really was worth about $80-100. I won't be back."

"We had an awesome time at Smith & Wollensky! Though it was tough to find a place to dine on V-day, we just so happened to stumble across an open table around 7:30pm. The wait was only about 15min or so. They were very organized, friendly, and the food was fantastic. We even got champagne while we waited! Awesome place!"

"A disappointment in every way. Our party of eight struggled through 3 hours of poor service and mediocre food. We watched several people leave around us when servers did not show up to their table in the first half hour. When our meal finally arrived during our third hour, my dinner was still missing; there was no acknowledgement of this, just the waiter hurrying back toward the kitchen. Within minutes my medium rare steak appeared to be a just quickly seared rare ribeye instead of the medium I ordered. To spare my group any additional wait I muddled through a great deal of grizzle. We watched the manager go to table after table apologizing, but she stayed clear of ours, never offering any sort of apology."

"We really like our steak. Every time we go "somewhere nice" it is usually a steak house. This was our first time to S&W. The waiter really soured our experience. He didn't seem too enthusiastic and even more less when we ordered "tap water" service. I was disappointed that the wine menu didn't have any Mostaco but the two cocktails we got were delicious. The table bread was so awesome (yeast-type) we had to send it away lest we eat it all (we are carb-conscious ppl)! I ordered the 10oz Gorgonzola Crushed filet and she ordered the 10oz Au Poier (peppercorn sauce) filet. My was heavenly with the cheese. Hers seemed a bit too rare for my taste but she savored every bite. The chocolate creme brulé was super delicious as well!"

"When we first sat down we waited 15 minutes before the waiter ever came by. From there, he was not very attentive. Members of our party sat for long periods of time without beverages. Some of the people in our party had their steaks come out undercooked, but did not want to send it back since we had been there for roughly 2 hours before we received our food. The steaks did not seem to have much flavor either. In the future, make sure that the restaurant is fully staffed."
