Review 5 for Veritas

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"pretentious!!!
I know that its french but come on! We booked a month ago and highlighted that one of our party was vegetarian, even had correspondence back saying they could be accomodated.
starter of sliced tomato and a tower of leaves, tiny main of pasta with mushrooms doesn't feel like $85. we eat better and more imaginatively than this at home.
difficult to pick a desert as none of them sounded remotely appealing.
completely underwhelmed and dissapointed, feels like it should be special but it isnt.better to go over the road to Gramercy Tavern and have much more choice and better service for the same money.
chef spent too long speaking to sycophants in the restaurant.
it was busy,so I guess some people like being robbed/dont care

Review 9 for Veritas

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"No question the food is good but dinner cost $350 with tip. Value is not there. Big talk about the wine list and it is long and impressive. But, are they really no worthwhile wines $100 worthy of the list? I would have been more impressed with the list if the mid point price wasn't hundreds."

Review 13 for Veritas

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Spectacular veal chop for two. Appetizer and dessert less memorable. However the waiter pulled a fast one: I asked for a glass of prosecco but was told they had none, so the waiter suggested champagne. Without telling me the price, he brought a glass of champagne which cost $29. It doesn't seem right to have not mentioned that."

Review 14 for Veritas

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We loved this dining experience! I believe the Latin word for excellence is Virtus. The truth (Veritas) is that the food, the service, and even the house by the glass wines were EXCELLENT!! We celebrated our anniversary there and it certainly helped us get the marriage off to what should be another great year!

Well Done!

Review 15 for Veritas

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Overall very good food and service, but the wine list is the real draw. I was disappointed to find that there is only one page (of both reds AND whites) of wine less than $200! The rest of the very extensive wine list starts at $200 and rapidly works its way up. Though I can appreciate the quality and rarity of the more expensive wines, I think its just as important (especially for a restaurant that stresses "in vino veritas" ) to have a more reasonably priced, well thought out and selected wine list. Anyone can pick out a great $500 bottle of wine; to me the real talent lies in crafting a wine list that has great finds at all prices"

Review 18 for Veritas

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Everything about Veritas was outstanding. We were there for a 9:30 reservation on a Friday and it was surprisingly quiet. We were one of 5 parties in the dining room. There were a few ppl eating at the bar. Everything was flawless--food, service, perfect. The only thing we were disappointed with was the dessert...it was good, but not outstanding. The cookies and chocolate that came afterwards were really delicious."

Review 19 for Veritas

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Had a great dinner. We chose the 3 course Prix Fixe and it was entertaining and sufficient. The wine list is spectacular, featuring many, many verticals of lots of favorites. They are running a -25% discount on all wine as well and, frankly, the list prices are not that bad to begin with. We enjoyed an excellent Chateau de Beaucastel 2000 for under $100..!"

Review 21 for Veritas

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The meal was served and presented flawlessly. The wait staff had the highest level of professionalism. The 3 course pre fix was perfectly balanced. I just wish I could eat there every day..as I would never tire of this level of perfection.
One needs to get there early, just to read the extensive wine list, however found the wines by the glass were all excellent.

"The chef and his team struck the right note on a such a special occasion. Outstanding food fare took us to a journey full of surprises. Review 30 for Veritas

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Very good restaurant; first class food and polished service. The veal, which is only for two, was cooked to perfection and the wine match by the sommelier was spot on. Although his wine advice was sound, I was disappointed that he only recommended two wines; one for $185 and the other for aoround $300. It would have been better for him to have shown me three of four wines in different price ranges and then let me guide him to the price range I was comfortable with. Otherwise a near perfect evening!"

Review 31 for Veritas

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"The restaurant is in an area where the finance type hangs out, so when we went around the holidays, it was a very competitive and loud crowd, making the dining experience less than pleasant. The table on my left was 4 men, and they were comparing their Rolex watches, the man on my right man was a solo diner who clearly was also a finance guy and enjoyed food, and he commented that some of the fellows on my right were from Goldman (and ineed, who would miss that Goldman look of navy blue and gold on the pitch book?). Take your chances, the food is great, but the company can be challenging in a small space."

Review 32 for Veritas

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Not terribly impressed. Clearly not what they used to be. Wine list is admittedly snooty and repleat with $300 wines. The trick is not to offer over-priced wines but to find the gems that are affordable. That is obviously not what Veritas does. I can't say the meal was a disaster, but we would not go back."

Review 33 for Veritas

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We had such high expectations for our dinner at Veritas. Everything was lackluster, except the check. At $450 per couple, our mediocre meal became a mockery. The service was attentive, but cold and stuffy. The sommelier was a snob. The decor was dreary. The food was nothing special. Overall, very dissapointed in our food icon, Anthony Bourdain for his recommendation."

Review 35 for Veritas

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"Wine list very large but the prices are overload I mean the prices are unreal. The sells european vines almost 4 times the real price (the expensives ones, but the mediun prices are overload in somecases in 10 times more). I tried one wine from california for 75 dollars with the cuality of an Spanish or French wine of 15 Euros. The cusine pretends to imitate cuality but is very poor and the price is also crazy. Not a luxury restaurant but with prices like it would be."

Review 38 for Veritas

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"This restaurant was the highlight of out new york experience. The restaurant was refined, the were tables perfectly spaced and from start to finish the service was exemplary. The sommelier was adept at showing us through the very extensive winelist - there was no upselling and we felt comfortable and charmed by all of the waiting staff who were incredibly attentive but never overbearing. The food was an absolute must, every dish was complex and beautifully prepared - the only thing that caused contention was the fois gras stuffed grape. My friend described the jumbo lump crab and sea urchin starter as the most beautiful and interesting thing she had eaten in a long time. I would recommend this place to anyone."

Review 39 for Veritas

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Our experience was excellent, facilitated by the exceptional, professional service. Four of us dined at Veritas, and each of us found the menu interesting and the food extremely well prepared and beautifully presented. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends. I was especially impressed that the staff picked up on the fact we were celebrating a birthday (we did not tell them) and in an understated but lovely way, marked the occasion for us."

Review 40 for Veritas

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Four-hour ordeal only worth it if you want your companions to be trapped. I mean, if you want to really develop a relationship over four hours. Flawless service. Very good, if unremarkable food (add lots of oil & butter to make everything taste better). Dignified ambiance w/o feeling old/dated."

Review 41 for Veritas

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"the only reason this restaurant gets such good reviews is becuase of a wine list that is phenomeal--but folks there really need to concentrate on the food as well--the lobster appetzier was good, the duck mediocre, the wygu beef so-so but the desserts were inedible.

also on service--i think we counted three waiters?!!? very disappointing
