"The food was pretty good but our steak was undercooked compared to what we ordered. The staff was completely inattentive. No one asked us how our food was, if everything was cooked okay. We ordered split dishes and they forgot to split the salad. We had to chase the waiter down to order a drink.
Not the type of service that I expected from a Smith & Wollensky!"

"It was our anniversary, and they danced attention upon us. We got a glass of champagne and an appetizer gratis, an anniversary card signed by the staff,the waiter was courteous and helpful, the wine was generous and the food was excellent. Made a special event even more special--and the building--an old armory from the 1800's--alone is worth the visit."

"This is a first class steakhouse. Service is top notch. I recommend this establishment as it's not the trendiest place in town, you can get a table on short notice- and the décor is amazing. Had a problem with the bone-in rib eye. It was just a bad steak. Thick gristle in the body of the steak; you expect marbling in a prime cut- not large inedible portions. Once cut away, it was still as fine a piece of meat as one can get- it just was a much smaller portion. I'd skip the rib eye. Stick to the filets (the cocoa/coffee rub was incredible) and the sirloins, and you'll be fine."

"This is our second time at this location and it was just as perfect as the first time, at least 5 years ago. I am glad to see that they are able to maintain their excellent standards in every department. The food was incredible, and the waiters were extremely attentive. I never waited more than 30 seconds for empty dishes to be removed, refill on the water, or anything else. Extremely attentive without being annoying. We had the 48 oz. Porterhouse for two, which is absolutely fantastic! It comes with a vegetable medley (potatoes, carrots, green beans) so you do not have to order sides. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely be coming back."

"The bone-in ribeye was perfectly prepared and super delicious. And huge. The hash browns were excellent, as always. The green beans were flavorful and crisp. This is such a dependable restaurant if you're looking for a good steak. The waiter, Dean, was friendly and helpful. And you can't beat the room for atmosphere and history. We'd read up on the history of the castle before going, and that added to the fun. We loved that the restaurant had artifacts from the building's long history on display."

"The restaurant was amazing. I chose this place for a date night and it was the right choice! We enjoyed the drinks and the food was exceptional. The castle was great I loved the history and was very surprised to find out how many dining rooms that have. We came early to enjoy the bar, they were able to seat us earlier which was very nice of them. My only minor upset was that the bartender was friendly but I felt that since it was not that busy yet he seemed preoccupied. But what can you do. We will be returning! That you."

Service was attentive. We sat near the fireplace & the space was very tight for my 6 ft husband. Even for my petite daughter who was next to the service area. Need much better placement of tables.

"The Castle is beautiful but seedy, their waterfront restaurant is far better. The waiter did not point out that the steak doesn't come with anything. Brought it up with the other dishes that all had sides. Maybe our fault but he could have said would you like a side with that (more money for them). He also knocked tomato juice all over me, they moved us to another table but nobody offered to do anything. Finally at the end we told the Manager about both items and he paid for the wine (big deal)."

"Very disappointing. I asked for a medium rare steak but got almost medium well done steak. I ordered asparagus for the side dish which was a little burnt and overcooked. The salad and dessert was average but not worth the price. There are definitely better steakhouse than S&W.. The service was slow and our maison d'etre was awkward and unfriendly. The only good thing about this restaurant was an extensive list of wine selection. A highly overpriced steakhouse."

"We arrived the host was very helpful and attentive. It was a relaxed feeling in the restaurant. The location is definitely historic since it is in a castle. The bread served before the meal was warm and tasty. The Wollensky Salad was a simple but delicious salad.
Our main entree was cooked to perfection. We ordered the Filet Mignon and the Ribeye, side Asparagus and Mushrooms.
For dessert we had the Chocolate Cake it was ok."

"I finally had a chance to check out this 'castle-restaurant'-thanks to the restaurant week!
The ambiance was great- the staff were very professional-
However, I must say, the quality of the food was only fair if not poor. So the appetizer- Their salad was very fresh- but I would not recommend their "famous" pea soup. but overall, it was alright, until-
But that steak! We had filet mignon- It was very tough. It wasn't the cooking I believe(It was promptly cooked to medium-rare) but the pure lack of meat quality was ruining everything- a major disappointment for a steakhouse.
Their steak may be better at non-restaurant week times. However, I WOULD NOT recommend going here if anyone were looking to try it for the restaurant week"

"Have eaten at S&W (Castle) many times both for work and with my family. After my family's experience last sat. night we are unlikely to return. Bottom line - the service was some of the worst I have had anywhere in the last five years. Waitress was abensetee. Simple things like refilling water glasses were ignored. We were on time for our 7 pm reservation and seated promptly. Entrees did not arrive until 8:45. At 8:10 our waitress stopped by to say our food which was already late would be out shortly. At 8:30 I inquired of the captain, who told me it was being plated. Did not arrive at the table for another 15 minutes. We were one of the last to leave - not because we dawdled. Too many good steakhouses in boston to waste it here."

"I was a little disappointed with the quality of food here. Three of us got the bone-in ribeye and one got the tuna. We all agreed that the steak was tasty, but it was a bit chewy. The tuna was quite good. Service overall was pretty friendly, but not as impressive as some other restaurants at this level (we would sometimes wait for a while for things that we needed).
The idea of the castle is very cool, but after you enter, you don't really feel like that's the atmosphere anymore. We had a server station on one side of us, and were looking into the kitchen on the other. Not exactly a regal feeling.
I think that for the money, other steakhouses in town do a better job overall."

"Our first time to the Castle was very enjoyable. The building adds a lot of old world charm and creates a very different dining experience. We were on the second floor right in the main room. We had the Beef Carpaccio, and Mussels for appetizers which were very good. (Only one mussel was bad in the dish. ) We had the Filet Mignon Oscar, Rib Eye steak and the Rack of Lamb. Generous portions all around. Nicely prepared and cooked to our liking. For dessert we ordered the Creme Brûlée and the Chocolate Cake. The cake was enough for four people to share and was a nice presentation. The Creme brûlée was nice as well. We enjoyed the evening,we weren't rushed, good service, good food, nice atmosphere. We will return and try the first floor."

"I made a reservation here on Valentines day. I assumed when I got there, we would have to wait, but we didn't. We were seated right away and immediately our server came over to give us suggestions and help us with their extensive wine list. Our server was amazing and so friendly. It was lively and loud but it definitely didn't take away from the romantic evening. The food, from the bread to the dessert, was simply to die for. I had the swordfish au poivre since I don't eat red meat while my boyfriend had the filet mignon. We both still talk about our dinner and will definitely be back soon."

"The Winter Prix Fixe special was all around rather disappointing. My home roasted beets have a more intense sweet flavor than the beet carpaccio salad. The foie gras in the deconstructed beef Wellington was either outright missing or cooked in a way to make it invisible and effectively flavorless. The chocolate hazelnut creme brulee was good but not spectacular -- my homemade vanilla creme brulee is tastier."

"On a Thursday evening a friend and I were heading to a play. She had never been to a high quality Steak House and Smith & Wollenski was walking distance to the theater. We had reservations for 6. The restaurant was almost empty. We were asked and accepted seats near "the fireplace" which was off the main dining room. We were the only people in this room that had 15 or 20 places to sit. Not long after we had wine served another couple were brought into the room and were sat in the table right smack dab next to us. It was awkward, uncomfortable and unnecessary to say the least. I don't know what the staff was thinking. The staff's poor judgment didn't enhance our experience and we won't likely be returning."

"My wife and I always select places of special interest for our Valentine dinners. We were very happy with our 2013 choice. We very much liked the unusual ambience of the Boston Back Bay restaurant. The service was impeccable. The wine list was outstanding with choices for everyone and every meal. Our appetizer smoked clam chowder was delicious. Our only concern (and the reason for not rating Overall and Food "Outstanding") was the lack of choices of smaller steaks. My wife, a petite, ordered pork chop with the hope that it would be relatively small. Instead, it was as thick as it was wide! She was able to eat less than half of it. My 24oz rib eye was too much for me as well. However, the taste of both selections was outstanding."
