Baker House
Join us for casual, small plate dining & fireside cocktails in our decadently furnished 1885 mansion. In the spirit of the great lakefront "cottages" of yesteryear, the BAKER HOUSE has recreated a world of Gilded Age living where grand entertaining is experienced daily and lavish parties are thrown nightly. Sing along at the player piano in our music room, play poker in the game room, savor fine wine in our library and dine fireside in our parlor. Instead of traditional restaurant seating, guests are served in plush wing backed chairs and overstuffed fringed couches throughout the mansion. Our menu of small plates is conducive for lounging and sharing & features many regional items such as Wisconsin artisan cheese boards, savory charcuterie, seasonal fondues and heartier favorites like sirloin sliders and robust garden paninis. Situated on the East shore of Geneva Lake with panoramic views of the lake and Riviera. For an extra special evening, book a second floor mansion hotel suite!

"Not only was the food fantastic, but the atmosphere of dining in the rooms of a former mansion adds to the experience. Grab a hat -it's encouraged - to wear while you dine, and you'll match the costumed wait staff. We also enjoyed a post-dinner drink at the bar, so much so we returned the next night."

"If it weren't for the amazing spread I'm sure they'd lose a lot of customers. The seats are too close together and the temperature in the restaurant is way too warm, especially given the close proximity. But again, the food makes it worth the visit. And if you can get a seat on the porch overlooking the lake, even better."

"We were looking for a place to sit outside, at least until the sun went down. The view to the lake and the sunset were beautiful. The outdoor space was quiet, being it is only mid May. Indoors for dinner was lovely. This restaurant is very unique in style, with different rooms to sit in, so the diners are spread out and it feels more intimate. The food selection, although not huge, was very good - from an appetizer, to a lovely crab bisque, to the entrée. And Wednesdays is 1/2 price bottles of wine (from reserve list) so that was a plus. Do grab a hat to wear, as it promotes some fun dinner conversation and makes everyone smile and laugh a bit more!"

"We came to Lake Genva on a weekend, and had a reservation here for supper. The food was delicious and appropriately priced. Servers were awesome, and etold us about the Sunday brunch. Now THAT was amazing! The food was really good, and some things could be made to order. I would certainly go back, and have already recommended this place to friends.

"Overall, lukewarm. Food was uninspired. My wife ordered a sea scallops special, which sounded great when described, but presentation left lots to be desired...scallop on a sliced fried piece of potato, a small portion of scalded spinich, then the scallop, then a sort of potato chip?!? I had Tuscan Chicken skillet, a generous portion of tortellini in a red sauce with Italian sausage and grilled chicken breast on top. It was good but not great. Prices were reasonable. Service was, again, uninspired. We were halfway thru the meal before our server returned to find out if everything was alright.
The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Old Queen Anne house with lovingly decorated rooms."

"Nice place with a good menu, some local beers on draft and an authentic Victorian home experience. The service was somewhat below what I would have expected however - I got the impression that the staff were inexperienced - maybe early-season cause? We ordered 2 sets of small plates as an appetizer and entree - but the 'entree' came out before the 'appetizer'. Drinks service was slow. Would visit again because the food quality meant living with the service gaps was worth it..."

"I donned a romantic pink felt hat from the 20's, and my beau donned his gangster fedora. We travelled back in time, and thoroughly enjoyed the grand piano playing and the singing. The laughter, and playfulness surrounding us was infectious. The sustenance was beautiful, and attractively arranged on beautiful antique plates and platters. My Tuscan chicken and sausage torellini was heavenly!! My fiance's steak was perfection. We had the most delightful time!!"

"I brought my girlfriend here for brunch Sunday morning and we had an amazing time. Donning several hats until we found two that fit our personalities was much of the fun of this historic mansion facing the shores of Lake Geneva. We had a variety of delectable dishes including a bananas foster French Toast that was to die for. The Baker House is one of my favorite destination spots. It's romance and nostalgia take you for a ride away from the mainstream. We will definitely be back."

"I can't believe I have never went to Baker House before! It isn't a restaurant, it's an experience! Most of the food we had such (we went with 6 appetizer plates to share & both deserts) was scrumptious, altho the chicken & shrimp scewers were a tad dry. But the food is such a small part of going to Baker House. The setting, the seating, the staff... all contribute to one of the most unique, fun & memorable dining experiences you can have in this area. Perfect for all... couples, groups & families alike! "Our family of 4 went to Easter Brunch. It was amazing. Our service was kind of slow and our server didn't offer more drinks or remember that she ordered me an egg benedict from the chef. We asked her to take our picture and she forgot that too, we asked again and it was taken care of. Food was amazing. Our table was awesome. We sat on the front porch on a couch looking out on the lake. Could not have been any nicer. Server was nice and friendly, just not on top of the service the best she could have been for a buffett."

"The experience was not what we had hoped for. The bar area was good. Bar Drinks came quick, nice atmosphere. We got seated right away. We had reservations. Drinks were carried from bar to table. This is where things started to go downhill. The server took a while to finally get to our table. When she arrived she was very pleasant. She took our appetizer order. The appetizer took quite a while to come, approx 30 mins. She then took our entree' order. This took at least 45 mins to arrive and only 1 of 2 plates emerged from kitchen. Approx 20 mins later the 2nd plate arrived at which point we said we were leaving, please keep it and have it removed from the ticket. The food quality was below average, nothing special. Probably won't come back"

"We were not a big fan of the old furnishings. Tables too close together and chairs very low and uncomfortable, very close to your neighbors, therefore conversation was difficult. Food was just ok,nothing great about the quality or variety. Cost was enough that champagne should have been included. Not quite worth all the hype!"

"We really enjoyed Baker House. It was a really unique restaurant with interesting food choices. I liked being able to try different things. Because of the small plate, share-your-food style of the restaurant, there is a great deal of interaction among diners, which I think is fun. I was a little disappointed in our service. At the end of the meal, the waitress had forgotten to box up my leftovers. I basically got a "sorry" from her and nothing else. No one came back to our table after that - even to refill our water. I was a little disappointed with that, but it would certainly not stop me from going back again."

"Beautiful mansion! Great place to go for a special occasion or romantic get away.We all shared "small plate" dinning, fun way to eat and enjoy dinner with friends.Food was very good.Fun was had by all with the wearing of hats. "The Baker House was a delightful surprise for our "bi-annual get together of ladies". Lake Geneva is a good meeting place for all of us. This was our first time visiting The Baker House and all of it's charms. From the moment we stepped in the door, we were greeted in cheer, with dress, decor & ambiance of the roaring 20s. We were seated early for our 6:00pm reservation the the front parlor at a perfect table with a settee facing the lake and comfy chairs on either side, so all 4 of us were able to enjoy the view. We enjoyed wearing a variety of provided hats as we caught up on life, sipping champagne & sharing tasty appetizers. We watched the sun set and topped the evening off with chocolate fondue and coffee, relaxed & unrushed. Cheers."

"Neat theme restaurant!! Girls weekend away all of us orderd filet, cooked to perfection. I didn't think the food would be good. Surprise. We played it safe spinach salad. Fondue dessert. The cozy rooms feel like you are eating at home. Our server was lovely. Everyone in our party LOVED it! We all want to come back. :) OHHH The piano player was amazing!!!!"

"Everything was wonderful. The only issue was we were never told about the table time limit. (Wwe were there for a birthday party) After ordering desert, we were told that the next party was waiting for the table. Had the waiter told us this upon ordering desert, or even sooner, we would have gladly hurried along. Basically, it was in the way he told us. Nor very tactful. Otherwise it was a wonderful evening!!"

"We went with a group of six. We went for the Sunday brunch and the food was fabulous, all of six us tried different items and liked everything! The service was outstanding and they did not rush us out. In fact, when we were getting ready to go we noticed the bar, which was also very nice. So we ended up staying for the rest of the hawks game and had some of their specialty drinks!! Great place and will definately recommend to our family and friends!"

"Baker House is a really unique place to visit. We went for "Fishnet Friday" and although not a lot of people in vintage attire, nearly everyone had borrowed a vintage hat from the available selection offered by the house. The cocktails are potent, the service is great, the view is terrific from the porch, and the food is very good. We enjoyed the Roman Holiday "tower for 2", the crab cakes, and the chicken tenders on pretzel rolls. Live piano music was fun. We have also enjoyed Sunday Brunch there."

"We celebrated our 26th anniversary at Baker's House. The staff was amazing!! So friendly. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed our dessert (Chocolate Fondue) in the room where they entertainment. The piano player already knew of our celebration and played a few special songs for us. I also liked trying on some of the hats!"
