"Brought my mom for Mother's Day brunch and got the brunch menu (realized after ordering that the standard menu was also available). The service and ambience were good, and we felt comfortable having our young children with us -- there were a number of other families with children there as well. We ordered the crab benedict, has, french toast, and blueberry waffles -- all were mediocre, but the hash browns were crisp and tasty. Seems like a nice location and it could have been an off day, but just was not wowed."

"Our party of six grew to 12, and they were able to accommodate us to a semi-private room, we loved! Service was fantastic, great teamwork from crew. Lots of menu and drink choices for our eclectic group. We appreciated staff's suggestions and for not making us feeling rushed. I will definitely return for other occasions."

"We ate at TJ Stones on our first night & time to Alexandria. Meal was very good. My wife had salmon, I had tuna, our daughters had wings. Meal was very good. Great ambiance, and excellent service. If we had had more time, we would have returned a 2nd night. We will definitely eat there again on our next trip to Alexandria and have already recommended it to friends who will be heading to Alexandria in the coming weeks."

"I think I made a mistake here because I ordered the NY strip steak instead of something in the BBQ arena. The steak was of Outback quality but was cooked well (and I had to ask for a steak knife. The butter knife didn't have a chance). They have a very good beer list which helps make up for the "basil martini" which is a disaster (they sprinkle dried basil on top of the drink so that you have to chew up dried basil flakes after every sip. Very annoying). The bottom line is that if you go for BBQ and beer you will probably leave happy. If you decide to order from the Big Plates menu and have a cocktail you're taking a risk."

"The food was good. Not bad but not amazing. The major downfall was service. They just threw us to a table and ave us menus. No one came to even greet us for a good 15 minutes. The guy was rushed and said " I don't know if you are even in my section but I'll help you". Our drinks were never refilled and I never received a glass of water. Seemed like the wait staff was stretched too thin and stressed. Most tables seemed to be having the same experience. The food did come out hot and we got our check quick. I might give it one more try."

"Probably better as a US version of a pub. Set your expectations for pub food and this will be fine.Ordered a barbecue sampler. Reminded me why I don't dine on barbecue often. Spouse had chicken special and that was OK. Yukon gold mashed potatoes were very good. Beer selection was excellent. Service was ok. Alexandria has a paucity of decent places for both locals and visitors. As a neighborhood pub this one will be good."

"One of the members of our party was a young man, and his kid's meal plate was a frisbee. We didn't notice it until he was done with the meal, and he was able to keep the frisbee, how cool is that. Everything ordered at the table was enjoyed by all. The French onion soup and beef stew were made with some of the beer from their extensive list on hand. The house made potato chips are addicting and should be tried."

"Great beer menu, fantastic sweet potato fries and the place did a great job sound proofing the dining room from the bar area - noise and vibe from one does not impact the enjoyment of the other."

"This was an unexpected surprise. The food was all BBQ based and delicious. They have a huge beer menu, over 150 choices. The bar was pretty crowded for a Thursday night. Will definitely be coming here again."

"It's the third time I've been there, and will continue to come back. It's noisy in the bar area, but ask for the back room or a place near the fire, and it's quiet enough for easy conversation. The service was excellent and all the food items our party of four ordered were delicious."

"Five friends met for lunch at TJ's and we all found our food mediocre. The eggs benedict were served on burnt english muffins with one tiny piece of ham and a poached egg. The hollandaise sauce was unmemorable. Turkey reubin was not as good as expected. The coffee was served in little carafes and was tepid. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he simply said sorry but didn't offer to bring us hot coffee. Otherwise, he was attentive and gave us the option of separate checks which we appreciated. However, one of us paid cash and he didn't return the change, assumed the entire amount was his which amounted to a 40% tip. We will not return."

"My first time visiting TJS and I thought the overall experience was great. Usually I am skeptical of trying new things on special occasions but this was a smart move. The food was fresh, the presentation on our plates were good, and the service and management worked hard to assist us throughout the entire time that we dined. I will return here given it is less than 3 miles from home and bring my foodie friends to hang out at this place."

"Enjoyable evening. Had a quiet table in the back. Good bottle beeer collection and about a dozen taps with a good selection. Does not currently serve small pours, flight or samplers such as 4 oz."

"When we walked in the hostess wanted to seat us at a four top that was within range of the bar and door. Due to the level of the noise we asked if we could have a table further in the room. She took us to the other end of the restaurant where we were then at the other side of the bar (Still a four top). Still too much noise. We asked to be seated against the wall. One was already reserved (which we had no problem with) and the other was empty. The response from the hostess was they couldn't seat us there because they didn't want to use up the four tops since it was restaurant. We didn't quite understand that since all the tables she was trying to sit us at were four tops. This did not set a good tone for a good dining experience."

"My wife and I were looking for a nice place to have some good food and a bottle of wine. The fireplace at TJ Stone's made the perfect location for just that. The food was good and the service was impeccable which for me made the food even better. This is not a 5 star restaurant but it is a well run establishment that puts the service of its patrons at the top of the list. Keep up the good work and we will keep coming back!"

"Great value during Restaurant Week Jan 2013 - $35 for 2 to share 1 app, 2 full size entrees (no skimping) and share 1 dessert. 1 of the longest beer lists in Old Town and two main rooms - one for bar and one for dining but neither hindered the experience of other. Rolling fire in dining room was very nice on cold night."

"A friend and I tried this place during restaurant week and were greatly surprised at both the quality and the price of food here. We shared the chicken tender appetizer which had amazing breading (I'm definitely going back to get the full fried chicken entree next time). We also had the Pork "Rib Eye" which was very juicy and flavorful. If you like good drinks, I'd recommend the Fire & Ice Sangria. I normally not one for spices but it was blended so well that all you could taste was the sweetness! T.J. Stone's is definitely a place I got to again."
