We're an American restaurant cooking fresh, naturally raised food, greatly inspired by European traditions and sensibilities. The name Left Bank refers to The West Village, home artists, beatnicks, philosophers, and all those just a little left of center.
"A nice find, up to date and approachable. Had a yummy farm salad with a hard-cooked egg and chicken livers, then chicken on a bed of farro. Companion had polenta with legumes, then sliced steak. Dessert was lovely, a seasonal rhubarb tart, but it was served with a fork and no knife, which made it hard to deal with the thick pate sablee of the crust and fibrous strips of rhubarb. Tea was served with less ceremony than a diner: bag plopped into hot water, no sugar, no lemon, no milk, no pot of hot water. This place prides itself on kindness and humility--there's even an earnestly worded credo to that effect hanging on the wall--but that tea service made them seem sloppy and even contemptuous. The little things mean a lot."

"I eat out at nice restaurants several days a week all over the country. I eat plenty of wonderful meals but rarely one that really gives me the wow factor. My meal Friday was awesome! I had the cheese curd cappelletti that was incredible and the monkfish my girlfriend ordered was cooked perfectly. My server Michael was very helpful in recommending these entrees along with the grilled polenta appetizer, and he provided exceptional service throughout the meal. This was my first time to visit Left Bank and I am looking forward to my next visit."

"When I saw the menu prices looked reasonable but portions are so small so you need 3 courses to fill up. $135 +tips for 2 with 3 drinks total. Dumpilngs delicious! The steak was quite tough and the potatoes kinda boring, presentation not good, it was a bunch of brown...not recommended. The monkfish good, but little food on a big plate.. Maple syrup pie delish. Nice place and staff."

"We've been here before a few times and brought very close friends because we've liked it so much. However, the service was a complete failure. It remains unclear what happened, because our server blamed the delay on prep time for our sausage appetizer. Anyhow, we got through 1.5 bottles of wine before the first food showed up. I get that mistakes happen and an honest apology would have gone miles, but I became furious when I saw that servers were drinking wine at the bar before our food showed up."

"The restaurant is very charming and the food is nice enough but the portions are mean. I never complain about portion size because I'm not a big appetite eater but I had a 3 course meal and left hungry! This place takes itself a bit too seriously"

"Last minute change of plans made us cancel one Open Table reservation at a favorite spot in Chelsea and scramble to find a place closer to where we were staying, and we find Left Bank and managed to get a reservation. Excellent and attentive service, not many choices but the menu updates daily. The noise was a bit energetic but otherwise we had a great evening and will keep this on file as a neighborhood favorite."

"We absolutely loved our family surprise dinner evening at LB. the service was fantastic ( Daniel, I think). We were wonderfully served, allowed to enjoy our special banquette seating, made to feel we should relax and enjoy, which we did! The food was perfect; aired and tasty and fun. We can't wait to go back. Interior is warm and elegant and lovely!"

"Food was good, but nothing spectacular, particularly relative to the prices. We arrived for our 9pm reservation on time, but the table ahead of us wasn't finished dinner yet. We were made to wait 20 minutes for our table. The restaurant hardly offered an apology, and they certainly didn't offer to buy us a drink or anything to make up for it. The restaurant is pretty and ambience generally pleasant, but the table for 5 is in an awkward and busy spot near the host's stand at the entrance of the restaurant. In wintertime, it can get a bit chilly."

"Fantastic food, great big portions (esp pork chop which was best pork chop I've had in a long time), outstanding service and beautiful locale. Will definitely be going back here. Though this isn't officially an italian restaurant, they seemed to have quite a number of italian dishes on the menu and they were outstanding.
Wait staff and owners are all extremely knowledgeable and very friendly!"

"Got in at the last minute, and ate there with my daughter. We were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the food. I had the chicken and it was moist and tasty."

"We had a lovely evening at Left Bank. Service was warm, low-key and definitely appealing, from the friendly greeting at the door to our departure. It was a busy Friday night but the restaurant managed the space beautifully. Food was simple but but tasty, as the menu suggests. The cheese plate was nicely-done; the shaved brussel sprout salad was fantastic and the shrimp risotto was perfect. We would also recommend the chicken entree. The Mongolian dumplings were completely delectable. We did not have room for dessert, much to our regret. Next time!"

"We had a wonderful evening at Left Bank! An interesting menu full of intriguing tastes, capped by the Maple Syrup Pie which was outstanding, a bartender who knows how Manhattans should be made, and excellent service, all made the evening so enjoyable. We will be back for sure!"

"Delicious scrambled egg fontana & great coffee. Very pretty restaurant, it was surprisingly quiet on a Sunday at 1pm, but by 2pm packed as it deserved to be."
