"The restaurant is beautiful and the food is good. BUT, arrived for brunch for my son's college graduation at 1:30 and they were out of bread and had one special left. They were very crowded and seemed completely unprepared. We requested they put in whole order at once. my son and husband who got soup and then we waited and WAITED and waited, An hour in, I complained and the waiter said he didn't cook and he yelled at the kitchen. He should have done that on his own. A half hour after that the manager came and said he didn't understand it. When the food came I was so upset it tasted like nothing, I acknowlege that they discounted the bill but really should have given us lunch, the whole afternoon became a debacle and not a celebration."

"Very disappointed. The bar and patio has great ambience and the raspberry mojito great. Dinner however was another story. We had a reservation but were seated 45 minutes late. They ran out of BREAD!!! They ran out of pork (which my husband ordered). They ran out of chocolate cake (which is what I wanted for dessert). I had a chopped salad to start and I wasn't impressed. The salad bowl sat in front of me waiting to be removed for way too long. Chicken dish was tasty as was the hangar steak. I expected more for the price."

"Lovely lunch. So often special occasion prix fixe menus can just be overpriced and not worth it. While expensive, this meal was worth the price. Delicious food, wonderful service, beautiful space. Truly a lovely meal."

"My son took me to Artisan for Mother's Day . I dine there pretty often as I love the flavors and creativity - it's always consistent. Until this visit. Maybe there was an intern chef. Maybe it was the holiday menu. But if I didn't already love Artisan, based on our dinner Sunday, I wouldn't return. It missed the mark on the cold seafood appetizer (had a really bad clam), and the seafood risotto was dry and tasteless. The strawberry shortcake was hard as a rock and the minted whipped cream tasted like basil. The only redeeming quality was the service - knowledgable, professional, unpretentious and attentive. I give that dinner a "D.""

"We dined at Artisan with another couple and had a great meal. The wine list is extensive. I started with the beet salad and had the halibut for my entree, and both were fabulous. They had run out of my top 2 dessert choices, so we opted for choice #3, the cheesecake, and it was just okay. The only thing that keeps me from giving Artisan 5 stars is the service. It was very slow, and my water glass was refilled only once. Our server was responsible for far too many tables, and that is unacceptable at a high-end restaurant."

"My husband took me to Artisan for a kid-free Mother's Day dinner. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We loved every bite of this menu. For an appetizer we had the roasted oysters and tuna crudo, both amazing and like nothing I've ever tasted. Our entrees (goat-cheese gnocchi with lamb bolognese and sea scallops with bacon gastrique) were impressive and the scallops paired well with the wine recommended by our server. We rounded out the meal with the warm chocolate hazelnut cake and toasted coconut ice cream...delish! We will be going back."

"As a group of 8, we all agreed that our meal was divine. Apps to main course into dessert that no one shared with the other because it was just too good!"

"I moved from Manhattan into a a part time house in Southport on 4/6/13.--had lunch there that day and have been bank for diner three times , once at the bar and twice in the dining room. The above ratings are a statement regarding my experiences at Artisan."

"Last week I moved from Manhattan into a weekend/vacation home in Southport. While exploring downtown with a friend, which takes about five minutes, we spied Artisan which is in an attractive relatively new but appropriately colonial development with hotel, apartment and office building. We stopped for lunch and were more than pleasantly surprised by the ambience, food and service. I have returned twice for dinner during the week since my first visit-once on my own for dinner at the bar and then with my adult son to celebrate his birthday. Both visits have matched the first, and I'm plan to return soon to what I anticipate will become my Southport hangout."

"The Red Shrimp and Tuna Tartare appetizers were excellent. The tomato soup and grilled cheese was mediocre. The scallops, pork chop and risotto were solid. Great cheese. The room is fun, tasteful and energetic."

"Once again they aim to please and hit a bullseye. Food was fantastic and service outstanding. We were seated immediatly upon arrival and they had just poured our water when our lovely server from our last visit on Christmas, who was working another section, came over and said hi and that it was nice to see us and much to our delite said she would be our server again. Crusty on the outside soft on the inside yummy bread started us and once gone was hastily refilled. All 3 of us got differant apps. and all were great. We all got the leg of lamb as our main and it was scrumptous, followed by 3 great desserts each sweet and tasty but not overdone. We have vowed that all our holiday meals will be with them."

"My first meal at Artisan was for Easter Brunch. We had a 1:30 reservation and was seated at 2:20. After a 50 minute wait, we were seated in the bar, the lobster bisque had no lobster chunks, and the lamb was overcooked. Perhaps they have a better result when it is not a holiday, but it will be awhile before I will give them another chance."

"we were there this time on a monday night so it was pretty quiet for our romantic dinner for two...and it was my husbands birthday. On fri and saturdays it is bustling and i do love that vibe too. Just love this restaurant."

"The experience was very disappointing. There were 3 in our party. We ordered the monkfish which was bland and greasy and the halibut was just ok, but the lima beans were tough. The gnocchi was good quality. Service was very slow to get our entries for a Sunday evening and a pretty empty restaurant at that time. Menu needs some updating - the offerings are not appealing overall. The restaurant is very warm and inviting inside though. Would expect better quality for the price."

"Artisan was good...my soup and quiche were good but not exceptional enough to warrant the price tag. Pleasant restaurant...divided into two sections...both pleasant but on this my third trip back...we have sat in the same location..."back" room away from the bar. I did notice that at lunch time the restaurant was not even half full. This is an upscale restaurant and so it is always pleasant to share in its ambiance."

"Nice restaurant with good food. One in our party had a steak. For the price the size was quite small. But the service was very god and it has a nice 'buzz' around the room."

"We were there in the winter for lunch during the week, so it was pretty slow and as a result we were seated in the bar area, rather than in the table-clothed main dining room. Service was very cordial, yet measured and the dishes were very good. They have a $19 Prix Fixe lunch which includes appetizer and entree, but no dessert. For $5 additional you can choose a house wine. No issues at all with the food or service and while the restaurant and hotel are both extremely well-appointed, you get the impression you are dining in a ghost town. The development that includes the hotel has suffered from the economy and as a result, most of the buildings appear vacant."

"The first time we went, we had this amazing server who made the experience that much better. This time, the food was good, the server was fine, but not the level of service of the gentleman server."

"This was our third trip for brunch and we weren't disappointed. This is a must for brunch. There is a great deal on a limited price fixed menu which includes a mimosa or bloody Mary and an main dish for $19. The food is outstanding and the service superb. What are you waiting for?!"

"Food was hit or miss. Has potential but execution was lacking. Some dishes were very good- tuna tartare and Goat cheese Gnocchi. Others were poor- crab cake and monkfish. Mostly due to freshness or lack thereof. Service was attentive but lacked a professional feel. Desserts are very good. Had the Runs the next day which may have been attributable to dining here."
