The Del-Bar
Del-Bar “the best steaks in town since 1943.” Passionate, fairly priced wine list. Cocktail lounge. Prime Steaks, Jumbo seafood, Fresh fish, Sandwiches and more. The perfect place to hold small meetings, casual affairs, and great dinner parties.
The Del-Bar was establish in 1943 as a Roadside Steakhouse by Jim and Alice Wimmer and today is still family owned and operated by Jeff and Jane Wimmer. The "Prairie style" ambiance, renovations and expansions are by James Dresser, an important protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright.

"My husband & I were on an overnight getaway in the Dells. We had been recommended the Del Bar by many people who raved about the food. My husband had the Friday night fish fry which he said was good. I ordered the garlic shrimp & was very disappointed. We started out with shrimp cocktail & it lacked taste. I am a shrimp lover & when I received by garlic shrimp it was absolutely tasteless. I was so disappointed, I asked for some garlic butter & that did not help at all. I ended up leaving my plate which was very frustrating because I paid near $30.00 for the meal. I mentioned it twice to the waitress & she offered us a free dessert. Was hoping we could get a replacement meal or reduction off the meal. I unfortunately would not go back."

"Mother's Day early evening was such a pleasant surprise again. The tables were full, we were seated immediately as we arrived at our appointed time, and yet it seemed like we were the only ones present. Yes, the hostess and the waitstaff were always occupied and cheery, and the diners were quietly eating, taking their mothers out for her day. My mom enjoyed it, and the hostess even complimented my mom on her corsage. That made her evening! And the food was just as great as ever. That flat iron steak is just delicious and mom had more than enough to eat with the pan fried walleye."

"We've been dining here for many years and it just gets better. They outdid themselves with their Mothers's Day specials. My wife had one of her best Mother's Day in a long time. The Hilton Garden Inn [located right behind The Del Bar] has a room/dinner special that's hard to beat."

"Bar service was slow and staff confused.
My steak came well done although I ordered it rare. They gave me another cooked properly but the portion was small. This was their daily special so I expected better. My wife's entrée was salmon and was good.

"If you are in the area and you have never been the Del bar, you should make your reservation right away. Their signature hot bacon dressing in unforgettable experience. Steak is comparable to famous steak house in Chicago, service is great and waiters and waitresses are friendly. We come up here at least twice a year with the kids and this restaurant is a must go in our list."

"We've been here a couple of times before. They make a good brandy old fashion sweet. Service was great. But then we've never had bad service. Mark had the flat iron steak which thought was very good. I had the friday night fish fry. The fish was ok. It was nice to have healthier sides like a salad and a baked potato. Most fish fries have french fries and coleslaw. They have a baked fish option but I'm not a fan of those. Overall good experience. Will return."

"My husband and I have enjoyed The Del-Bar for many years. We live in the Madison area, so it is a bit of a drive, but well worth it. We recently ate there on my birthday and had an excellent meal. The scallops were outstanding - a special that evening. The management and staff have created a warm, comfortable dining environment that makes us want to return year after year. We have taken company groups here and it is the place everyone wants to go back to the next time. A wonderful Wisconsin supper club!"

The service (Laurie) was excellant, the food was excellent and to top it off we were surprised, that upon receiveing our dessert, our waitress said it was on the house becuase our steaks took longer than anticipated. "Another great meal at The Del-Bar. There's a reason I recommend this place all the time, and will continue to do so. The food and service were great, as usual. One downside this time around though; the loud, what looked to be bachelor party, at a table near us. They were extremely loud, "f-this, and f-that", and the staff did nothing to deter the behavior. Disappointing."

"I've been here for group occasions and have always wanted to come and have a romantic dinner with my beau. We had a fantastic 4 course dinner "special" with the grilled Norwegian salmon and their low price. We were treated like royalty. My guy, from out of the area and who recently returned from Finland, said the salmon was better than anything served on his worldly travels. The service showed attention paid to every detail, including the results of the wait staff taste testing the beers to be able to give us a recommendation; our waitress was right on that choice! We were seated in the main dining area as we were told the garden room had children dining that evening. That was a good move on their part!"

"The food and wait staff at Del Bar were outstanding. The main hostess however was very unfriendly and i found her to be quite rude and lacking a personality. Also the kitchen is pretty slow. "I go to the Dells annually for a conference and ALWAYS go to the Del-Bar for dinner one night. Very classic American food done right. Neither I or my guests have ever had nothing other than a good time.
I live in the 5th largest city in America (Western US) and travel all over the country for work. Although going to the Dells in Feb / March is not ideal, the Del Bar makes my trip much more enjoyable. Thank you and see you next year."

The only bad thing was there was alot of kids there at the time,
so it was a tiny bit noisy.
It made my girlfriend happy(the wine helped), so that made life easier for the night."

"I have to say that each and every time I have had dinner at the Del-Bar it is without a doubt the finest dining experience ever. I love this place, yes it is a bit on the expensive side, but every bit well worth it. The atmosphere is romantic, our service was first class all the way, and the food is the best bar none. I had the the 8 ounce filet mignon, and she had the chicken cordon bleau, and as usual the food was perfect. And I will say that if you are out to impress that special someone, there is no pleace better in the surrounding area. If I could give the 10 stars for everything I would. Check out the Del-Bar, you will not be disspointed."

"Closest parking was about 200 yards away so it was a long walk in the rain. I filled out my reservations online and it was confirmed by email but when we arrived they could not find my reservation. However, we were seated immediately and the rest of the dining experience was top class. The service, ambiance and food were all perfect. Even thought I was seated immediately, it is not a good feeling to have them tell you they can not find your reservation."

"We try to get up to the Del Bar at least once a year. The service has always been good and the steak fantastic. The last visit was a special one as we were celebrating my girlfriends 30th Birthday. To keep this short. Our reservation was not met on time. Once sat it seemed like everything went down hill. 45 minutes to get salads, 15 minutes to get another glass of wine, and so on. The Entrees were as good as always,the scallops were melt in your mouth, the steak was cooked perfectly. I am not sure what had happened with service that night but it was far from great. The place seems to have and older clientele and I have noticed with places like this that sometimes they dont or are not as accommodating with younger people."
