Bannock
Bannock is a fresh market cafe and grab and go counter serving chef-prepared Canadian comfort foods. Centrally located at the corner of Queen and Bay in the Hudson Bay flagship store, Bannock provides all day meal options for shoppers, foodies, tourists and those who live and work downtown. Bannock's honest approach to food is rooted in familiar, wholesome ingredients that are reflective of Canada's rich regional and cultural diversity. The name 'Bannock' honors the iconic round flatbread that was first brought to Canada through Scottish explorers and traders, and adapted by indigenous people and settlers. Bannock is featured throughout the entire menu including sweet breakfast breads, fresh artisan sandwiches, burgers and pizzas, as well as accompaniments to soups, salads, main courses and desserts.

"The menu is carefully put together to create a fun and unique "canadiana" foodie experience. My husband had the duck pputine pizza (warning: this dish is rumoured to be the highest in fat in all of the country - and the portion is MASSIVE - seriously enough for 3-4 people). I had the haddock fish cake which was yummy. For dessert - we enjoyed the Smores Pie - which truly is a must try - so delicious."

"My friends and I enjoyed a nice dinner at Bannock. We all got soup and the special for that day - tea infused BC scallops. Soup was cream of cauliflower with bacon. It was tasty although the bits of bacon in it was chewy. The scallops was on top of a ragu with pork and lentils and came with a green sauce. The sauce had no flavor to it but the ragu was pretty good. We got 4 big scallops, all nicely cooked to perfection. The best part was dessert! We shared a warm s'mores pie that was really delicious! I loved the roasted marshmallow on top."

"My friend and I had dinner on Friday nite and we happened to mention that we had had a bad week ( well the whole year Actually) and the female staff took the time to bring a handmade card to our table with encouraging messages. And we had great "Cosmos", poutine, wine and S-MOres pie and it was perfect!!!!!"

"We ordered the Duck Poutine pizza and should have gone with our first instincts to share it and not order another entree. It was more than enough for two and very tasty although the duck was a bit overwhelmed. We also ordered the grilled cheese which was not necessary and was not anything extraordinary for the price ($15). We shared the salt cod doughnuts as a starter and they were excellent. The service was very good - attentive and friendly without being overbearing."

"We had visitors from the United States so decided to take them to have some Canadian faire. The duck poutine pizza tastes better than it sounds, primarily because of the caramelized onions and proper cheese curds. My pork shoulder with spätzle was very tender. Portions are not overly large, which is great as it left room for dessert. The s'mores pie was good, but the butter tart was better. They used a flaky pie crust which made it that much better than the generic stuff. Worth a try. Service was friendly and efficient. Check out the maps on the server's t-shirts. Our server said that they don't mind customers staring at their chests. ;)"

"Went to celebrate with my two kids 23 and 14.
Both had poutine-neither could finish.
Also had Caesar Salad- daughter and I both loved it.
I had the salmon- had the first time I was there as well.
Food was good.
Server was very friendly.
Love bonachini's restaurants-recommend to all my friends and family.

We went on a Thursday, and it was full. I was very pleased that they noted my request for a quiet corner table, because of a hearing problem in noisy places. I was glad I did because the restaurant was VERY noisy.

"After waiting a considerable time for our food our main course arrived before our appetizers. These were returned to the kitchen and we then had to wait some more for our appetizers. On arrival my salad was not what I had ordered and had to be returned while I waited some more.
The salmon dish came without wild rice as stated in the menu. By the time the rice arrived most of the salmon dish had been eaten.
The food was good when it finally arrived but overall the service was very sketchy.
Our waitress was very apologetic and did compensate us but most of the problems either came from the kitchen or other waiters delivering our food who were not aware of what we had ordered"

"Atmosphere was cozy and fun; not too dark or bright. Right near the kitchen, we had kitchen noise as well as patron noise. Since the table was long, not round, you couldn't hear anyone except the people right by you. Wouldn't take a colleague group there again on a Friday night. The food was very good, if not overly hot. The cod donut was given thumbs up by our East-Coaster, and the shrimp patty was also very tasty. Several of us had the pesto/chevre special, which was delicious. We liked the selection of beer and wine, loved the colourful local menu options! The server was smiley but too softspoken, and didn't appear very invested in taking care of us. Salad came with no fork. Looking forward to trying it for a fun date or brunch. Yummy."

"We went for an early dinner at 5:00 pm. Nice atmospehre, quiet at this time. My sister ordered a green salad but instead got a grain salad - they should look at renaming the grain salad to avoid confusion. I ordered the chicken pot pie, great pastry, lots of carrots and peas in a rich cream sauce but only 3 very small pieces of chicken. Waitress was nice enough to remove this from our bill. I'd give it another try."

"I'm always vaguely disappointed with Bannock. The service is very good but I find the food hit and miss. In particular, the Bannock BLT is really not a BLT. It says it's made with "Canoe bacon" which turns out to not be bacon at all. The bannock it is served in got all mushy with the tomato and the horseradish mayo ended up overpowering everything. It's really a pork sandwich in a soggy wrap which to me does not constitute comfort food. The food temperature is also a consistent problem for me. The first time I ordered the chicken pot pie the pie was steaming hot and the mashed potatoes were somewhat warm with congealed gravy. This happened the next time as well. The Smores bar was cold and congealed on Friday."

"Being in Canada for the 1st time in years [ditto Toronto], has been interesting to discover variety of _Canadian_ choices. This isthe first we tried. Got reservation one day in advance for Saturday night. Very pleasant. Sat just outside more closed in area where it was probably much noisier - friendly noise, but noise. We sat right across from the food prep area [very interesting]. Service was very friendly, although there was a bit of a wait for the credit card machine at the end. I had a curry/lentil soup and we both had the chicken pot pie. It had more veggies than I like but cream sauce/crust made up for it. Didn't make it to dessert but all looked great!"

"It was my first time attending Bannock and while the service was great and the food was good, I found the ambiance not as "elegant" or "up-scale" as I was expecting. I find that other O&B restaurants (O&B, Jump, Canteen) have an appealing and inviting ambiance. Perhaps the lights were too high i.e. on at a too high of a level, but I felt like I was in a food court canteen during the lunch hour..."

"The duck poutine pizza was awesome. Presentation of food was lovely. Service was good ( I don't remember the server being around much but I don't remember wanting for anything either). This was my first time at Bannock and the hostess was very accommodating when we wanted to add an extra person to our party. Overall it was a good experience and I would like to come back and try some more things on the menu, it all looked very interesting."

"I was pleasantly surprised by this somewhat-recent O&B addition. I am still waiting to try their duck poutine pizza but enjoyed my salad and burger meal no less. It's a nice little space with an open kitchen and aromas that permeate the air. The menu has a good number of choices, the food is fresh and of good quality, and service was good. I would highly recommend reservations during peak meal times. Definitely a good idea if you're looking for something pre-show."

"I ordered the salmon + risotto and my friend ordered the burger with root chips. We were both very pleased with the flavour and presentation. The leek confit on my salmon was awesome! I also appreciate the fact that the server knew what was gluten free and even offered to remove the wheatberry from the risotto.
The place itself was hopping and I saw a lot of tasty plates going out. Will definitely go back."

"For Valentine's day, it was a nice atmosphere but at 5pm, I expected a bit better service. We ordered the bread basket (which never came) and got our dinner before our appetizers. We waited a long time for our drinks and I think there were less than a dozen tables occupied. I could tell all the service staff were anxious and preoccupied but it doesn't excuse the off-service we received that night. I've been to Bannock before which is why I gave 3 stars for the service.
