"We had a great birthday dinner here. The food was served fast and everything tasted delicious. The mac and cheese could have had a little more seasoning, but other than that no complaints. Suprisingly had happy hour until 8pm, which is always a good thing! Would def go back."

"I made reservations for Mother's Day because that's what you are supposed to do if you want to get a seat anywhere on Mother's day. When we arrived we were told that there would be a 1 - 2 hour wait because the kitchen was not ready and they wanted the service to be great. We decided to wait in the bar area. We sat down and no one came to attend to us for about 20 minutes. The server was friendly and got our appetizers for us. I asked his name but he seemed aprehensive about telling me. We order entrees and waited for over an hour for them to arrive. There were other customers who arrived after us who got thier meals and left before us. Needless to say I wan't happy. The one good thing is they comp'd our meal before I had to ask."

"My experience at TruOrleans was better than ok. The food, was better than ok. It was tasty. The mac and chesse, which was not my first option but was EXCEPTIONAL. I am so glad they were out of mashed potatoes. It reminded me of my granny's mac and cheese. It was the bomb!"

"This was my first time to TruOrleans. I enjoyed the fact that they had a DJ playing. I was there for a friend's birthday. The Happy Hour drinks were NICE (not watered down as some establishments tend to do) and the food was delicious! The guy serving us was very friendly to the point that we took a few pictures with him. It was a fun time."

"This is our second try at TruOrleans; first for dinner, this time for brunch...it was ok. I had french toast, eggs and bacon which was good. My husband had a meat omelet that looked like the meat was just placed in the omelet and not cooked with the egg, so it fell apart :-( The mimosas were good and we had beignet fries, that tasted like funnel cake with a sweet sauce dip. We may return for happy hour one day and strictly order the oysters which were the best things we had on the menu so far."

"It took us forever(about an hour or more)to get our food and instead of coming by to geniuely apologize or offer a complimentary beverage or something, our waiter acted like he was afraid to stop by and give us an update and when he did he just said something to the effect that there was something going on with the kitchen that caused the delay. I believe I saw a manager who walked by and said nothing as she saw us waiting a long time for our food. And to boot they did not seem to be that crowded. My companion observed a large party in private room and they seem to got all of the staff's attention. They ran out of Mac n Cheese and to add insult to injury when we finally did get our food my greens were cold. Can't say that I will go back."

"My second time attending and enjoyed it again. I invited about 10 friends and we had a blast. The foods was not as good as the first time I visited, may have been a different cook. However, our waiter was phenomenal! The drink specials are amazing! The one negative is parking is horrible!!! It makes it hard to visit more frequently. If they instituted a valet parking I would be a regular."

"It was just ok and fairly pricey for what you get. The gumbo was not gumbo. It was more like a creamy chicken soup with a pleasant but quite mild flavor. It didn't taste bad, but if you order gumbo, you want gumbo. The red beans and rice were pretty good, but for $18 for beans and rice, I'll look elsewhere. The other food was similar. It didn't taste bad, but it wasn't true cajun. Drinks were fine, nothing spectacular but they had a few good cocktails. We may go again just because we live in the neighborhood, but it's not high on the our list. On a more positive note, there was no wait (probably because of everything I've said above)."

"The food was great. The service was good. I was about 10 minutes behind my reservation, the host moved my reservation to 8:00 when he noticed I would be late so that I would not lose my table. I didn't even have to call and ask. I would definitely go back to this restaurant. The stuffed salmon was delicious. The salmon was fresh, and it was a good sized portion. Even the garden salad was fresh. I had a level 2 Hurricane for my drink, and it hit the spot. It was recommended by our waiter."

"I've been to TruOrleans for drinks a few times and thought brunch would be a good occasion to give their food a try. I was really disappointed in the food. I had the crabs benedict and while the each was perfectly poached the english muffin tasted like it was not only not toasted but also stale. It ruined the whole thing. It seemed like a shame because they got the hard part right but the english muffin made the whole thing so bad I barely even noticed there was crab involved! My dining companion had the shrimp po'boy and that was also not great. I was surprised by how large the shrimp were. They were clearly not appropriately sized shrimp for a po'boy. The bread for that was sub par as well."

"Food was awesome and our server was great, but the food took a very long time to come out of the kitchen. The bar had a jazz band playing and they were really very good, but it made it so loud that we couldn't talk at the table. Maybe the band should start a little later? our dinner was at 7 and the band started shortly after we arrived. The food was so good that we will be back - but may wait til the outdoor dining opens."

"I've been here many times. My last visit was to have dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere was festive. A DJ downstairs and music blasting at the upstairs bar. Luckily, one room was available where you could have a conversation without yelling. The food was good as usual, but the service was the worst I have experienced there. I give service a poor rating because food wasn't ordered in a way to avoid dinner showing up right behind an appetizer. Server was friendly but not knowledgeable. Server took too long to return with items that should have been available. A waiter took condiments that we requested and gave them to another table with an ask-and-reach approach. Great bar scene, but dinner seems to be a low priority for TruOrleans."

"Having just recently visited New Orleans and eaten at several restaurants (six I believe), the comparability of the two was not quite there. Mind you the food was good, but it was not GREAT. Service was a little slow. I attribute that to what appeared to only be one person waiting tables. He was pleasant though. No complaints regarding the alcoholic beverages. The live band that was performing is a nice touch. Again, this was more of a DC flavor of music as opposed to New Orleans. Maybe some modification there would be appreciated.
Bottom line: I could see visiting this establishment again in a pinch."

"The restaurant opened late, and there were only 2 servers. The bartender didn't know how to make simple cocktails and it took forever to get our food. People left and EVERYONE complained, some louder than others they got offered a discount on their check...but we didn't....not going back....would not reccomend it to anyone !!!!!!!!!!"

"First, kudos to TruOrleans for setting up a quality restaurant in a neighborhood that needed it badly. I'm definitely rooting for them! The service is the highlight as other reviews have noted. Sarah is exactly the personality that you want assisting you through the meal in any restaurant. The food itself is more southern--or almost native Cuban--than New Orleans. The main ingredients are the star rather than spices. The fried green tomatoes tasted like green tomatoes that had beed dusted with corn meal and fried--no sauce, little seasoning. The catfish rueben tasted like catfish in a standard rueben. I'm good with that. It's just the name "TruOrleans" creates an expectation that the food can't deliver."

"Overall, the food was better than expected based on some of the other reviews. The BBQ peel and eat shrimp were really good as were the fried green tomatoes. Fried catfish was tasty, but could have been better. Drinks were just ok, the sex on the beach was the best one. As for service, it was a bit slow, but our great server more than made up for it. Oh and the Mac and cheese is really good too!"

"I went with friends for Sunday brunch at noon. The noise in the main level was unbelievable--there was a DJ playing music, apparently for a drag show, that made it almost impossible to communicate with the hostess about our seating arrangements. Luckily, we were seated upstairs, which was closed off with a door from the main level. Although the noise was still louder than we would have liked, at least it was bearable. Our server was nice, but the speed of service was slow and a bit inattentive. For example, we were told it would take a bit for our coffee because of the show downstairs, and then we had to ask for cream. The food was fine, but not wonderful, and a bit pricey given the service level and lack of ambiance. Will not return."

"We had some po' boys that were pretty good; unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can say about our experience. Service was extremely slow (we were there or almost 2 hours-- not by choice) and it was absurdly loud in the restaurant. Mixed drinks were poor. We ordered beignets for dessert, and they were... inexplicable. Not only did they taste horrible, but they weren't recognizable as even remotely resembling a beignet, or even a donut. I'm sorry, but a New Orleans restaurant that can't even manage a decent piece of fried dough is just sad."

"Our waitress, Alissa saved the day. And the food was good. But the service overall was awful. We had reservations but there were issues with seating us. There was NO manager on site. A server called the police on a customer who was irate because they waited forever to get cold food & no utensils. We had our dinner interrupted by sirens and 4 police storming into the dining room where we had seen no threat from the patrons sitting right next to us. I've never seen anything like it. The wait for the food was long and the place is small though crowded with more than the amount of large parties they could serve efficiently. The two bars seemed like a nice place to drop by if you are in the neighborhood to watch TV."

"The food was okay. We had to send a dish back. But, other than that it was okay. The service was not so good. We had to keep asking our waiter for certain items. He forgot to give me an item that came with my order. And, instead of him coming over to check on us periodically. We had to keep calling him over everytime we needed something."

"The overall experience was fine but was expecting better. Food was good service was marginal. Waited 10 min for the hosts to even be at station and the waiter was a bit slow and didn't really know much about the beer selection. I guess I am most disappointed because I was hoping for a special evening but it really isn't that kind of place."

"with reservation, my table ready upon walk in...a good thing.... the food was excellent. will go back for the food. was on a date, the dj music was rockin, but hard for us to have a conversation. seems like he got louder and louder as evening progressed and he kept asking us to tip the bartenders. stop the beggin. one time an hour is good maybe? if drinks good, don't need to ask for tips..real tacky. dj was loud and talked too much over music...calm him down, interfered with the atomosphere. service was good. waiters very polite and good customer service. ended up going up stairs after dinner for a close out drink so we could talk without screaming over the dj. greatrestaurant...i'll be back."

"Great food. Attentive service. And they can make a "dark 'n stormy" ... Not an easy drink to find in DC. The place is a bit disorganized. But, if you can be a bit tolerant of that, its a great place. The desserts: the pecan pie and chocolate cake are to die for ... The beignets ... eh ... Kind'a an embarrasment."

"It was Valentines Day evening and i made reservations. We got there a little late & did not have to wait long to be seated. The kitchen was backed up for almost 2hrs and then when our order was finally taken, they ran out of food (no salmon or broccoli). The substitute fish was dry & not stuffed with crab & spinach. There was some crab sprinkled on top of the fish. I may give it one more chance to find out whether I went on an off night."

"I knew the restaurant was going to be crowded so I made reservations. Since it was MArdi Gras I thought this would be a great after work outing with co-workers since we work 3 blocks away. The upstairs atmosphere was LIVE and music was pumping. The party favors were on point. I tried gator tenders for the first time . They remind me of tough seafood but had a good outer fried taste."

"i took my family to truorleans for Vday and it was horrible. the service was very bad. it took the waiter an hour before he took our order. we received half of the orders of our appetizers and did not received any of our entrees.we waited and hour for a straw. our reservation was at 6:30, we did not leave until almost 11pm without eating. it was the worst."

"I had forgotten when I made the reservation that my dinner partner had lived in New Orleans for several years. That made the expectations for this restaurant pretty high. Nontheless, Truorleans met the challenge. The oysters were fresh and my salmon was delicious, although the sauce on it was a bit too salty for my taste. Still, when mixed with the sweet-tasting rice it blended nicely. The service was very good and it was a lovely evening."

"Me and my boyfriend went on Valentines Day! We had a 9:30 reservation. We arrived and was seated. The waiter gave us the menus brought water then took drink order then came back 20mins later to tell us our drinks us coming we get our drinks but we can't order yet it's a wait in the kitchen about 15 mins! We get our drinks another 20 mins passed no food order yet. The couples beside us said they ordered food @8 and still didn't received their food! To make a long story short we was there for almost 2 hrs they shut the kitchen down and everyone was upset cause we was waiting forever! So we had to go find another restaurant to eat at! We was very upset cause they didn't not inform us before we was seated or before order drinks!!!"

"Truorleans was a great restaurant for any occassion. The atmosphere is amazing. Going on valentines day was probably the biggest mistake. I'm sure it could hold its own on any other day but the staff seemed a little overburdened given such a busy evening. My sister ordered greens with her meal as her side but we didn't find out until about halfway through the meal that they didn't have any! The food was great and our waitress was nice and sweet. I'll definitely be going there again, on an even that's not so busy though."

"We had Valentine's dinner reservations. The place was packed as expected. However, management hadn't prepared for the crowd. They were UNDERSTAFFED, RAN OUT OF FOOD, and RAN OUT OF FLATWARE then proceeded to give us PLASTIC ware. Even Panera gives you flatware! The waitress (Cynthia) was the best part of the evening. She did her best to try and make a terrible situation as comfortable as possible. Because of all the chaos & commotion, a table fire started which filled the place with a smokey smell. All I wanted was my dessert in a "to go" bag, but after waiting for 20-30 mins. the waitress informed us that it would be at least 45 mins b/c the kitchen was backed up. As we were leaving 2 cops had been called in to handle an another issue. :-("
