"My wife and I went to this fine establishment while on a trip to celebrate our first anniversary in the great city of New Orleans. The food wasn't extraordinary by any stretch, but both my lamb and her spaghetti were quite tasty. Where they really shined was the service. I requested a special table and they were happy to accommodate. Then, at the end of dinner, we were personally serenaded. It really was a lovely meal and a memorable way to start our next year of marriage. Thanks again!"

"Our party of four intended to have dinner at Irene's, but due to very rainy weather, tried Giovanni as they took reservations and the reviews were mostly positive.
We ordered a veal chop, veal marsala, chicken marsala and a short rib. The waiter couldn't determine which plate was the veal and which was chicken, not a good sign. The veal chop and short rib were dry. The food plating was unimaginative and both marsala dishes were served on such small plates that the sauce spilled onto the tablecloth.
Prices were comparable to a fine dining restaurant, which this clearly wasn't.
If you want good food, appetizing food and a place to talk with friends, this isn't your place as they also have very loud singers thriughout the evening."

"If you can come on a night that the waiters perform, it is very entertaining. The Oysters Giovanni, Asparagus Tuscany and Voodoo Shrimp are our favorites, but we have never had a bad meal here. If you have the time, the tasting menu is awesome too."

"In NOLA for a few days. Tired from the days travel. Look on Open Table what had an opening close by. Found Giovanni. Loved it. Reasonably priced. Good service. Good wine. Good food. We had a 6:30 reservation. Seated promptly on arrival. Restaurant was a little slow at first. But definitely picked up. By the end of the evening it was full and bustling. Including piano player and roaming opera singer. I used to live in Nola so I know how competive the restaurant business is. This place delivers. It's not the cutting edge new restaurant by any means. But it's good. Traditional Italian. And it had a fun atmosphere."

"I've eaten at Giovanni's several times in the past and I dont know what has happened but the quality of the food and wait staff has seriously dropped over the last year. We ate here twice this weekend and each time the food had no flavor. I probably will stop going here anymore. The maitre de is very pretentious so as soon as you walk through the door and have to deal with him you know the experience is not going to be good"

"The chef does a tasting menu that is not only outstanding in taste and presentation but the portion sizes are great as well. Well worth the money so go hungry. Nice touch is the opera singers singing Italian. They weren't intrusive. Only negative is that the room is loud. Sit along the edges and you'll be fine. But the food is worth it."

"A six-course meal with the wine pairing was incredible! Add to that Kat's delightfully energetic service and you've found a perfect, romantic evening. "Very nice atmosphere. The food, overall, was good, though my dish (Veal lo Cicero) was not impressive... at all. It tasted like cafeteria food. Maybe that's how it was supposed to be. Everyone else's dish was good, so I don't want to judge the entire place on that. Our appetizer and chopped salad were both very good and flavorful. Mine was just the one big miss. Our service was good, though I found the host to be slightly superior acting. I will probably go back though, because overall, our group had a good time and enjoyed the food."

"My friend &I were in search of comfort food and both orded the spaghetti and meatballs for our entree. The pasta and sauce was pretty bland, the meatballs were so huge, the size of grapefruit, so it was more like meatloaf. And what a ridiculous amount of meat on one plate, good if you like leftovers I suppose but what a waste for us tourists! We tried the caprese salad too, it tasted fine but was very over complicated with two types if pesto on top, kind of missed the point of what should be a simple dish based on good ingredients. Our server was nice enough, if a bit strange, he seemed surprised that we might want to order drinks before the food and his attitude was best described as 'superior'. Overall, disappointing waste of a mealtime."

"My first trip in many years, my girlfriends first visit. Service was great. "In my aperol and prosecco cocktail the prosecco was flat, like the bottle had been open for a long time. The food was inconsistent. My oyster appetizer, and my duck and shrimp entree were pretty good, my wife's salad was mediocre and her bolognese entree were terrible (like the chef had heated supermarket tomato sauce in a pot). BUT...when the waiter saw my wife was not enjoying her entree he was concerned, fetched a menu, and brought her a different entree. The piano and singer were a nice touch."

"Amazing Italian restaurant in a city that doesn't stop amazing me. We walked into the sound of beautiful voices, turns out they had two opera singers along with a pianist playing. This set an unbelievable ambiance as they were having so much fun walking around the room and singing their hearts out. I sampled their signature cocktail; a twist on the Long Island Ice Tea, it was quite good! My girlfriend loved the wine selection and the staff were very knowledgeable about their products. We started off with Chef Dukes Cheesy garlic Bread, it was wonderful, big thick pieces of bread with lots of cheese. The main courses were both very good as well, I had veal and she had chicken. Large quantities but not lacking in taste!"

"Food was good but it was obvious that they count every dollar. Extra charges for split plates, extra sauce among others. Not allowed to enter the dinning room with any small amount of a previous drink even though this is New Orleans. There are too many fantastic restaurants in New Orleans to be treated poorly at this one."

"We are quarter locals, nicely dressed, having an evening out at a nice restaurant. While being taken through the kitchen to the last table at the very farthest back corner of the restaurant, we asked for another table in front where other patrons were. The rest is not really necessary, needless to say, things did not get much better or professional from that point onward. We will not be back.

"The food was not as good as I was hoping for. It was pretty mediocre. The wandering opera singers were interesting but not perfect for my kids. I would hope they would spend the money they use for the opera singers and piano players for a hot plate to serve the entrees at a higher temperature. All our dishes were served realtively warm and a simple dish like spaghetti with butter for my son was served with the butter not melted. Ice cream for dessert was great but I certainly would not go back."

"Service was super slow to the point of neglect. Ridiculous! Water carafe sat empty for over 45 minutes twice. Took 3 hours for dinner. Food was nothing special. Desserts were great."

"I am a transplant to New Orleans, for almost a year, but never dined at Café Giovanni. No better time than during the Italian American Marching Club-Parade.
This night was my first time to utilize OpenTable. I thought, slim chance of getting a reservation at an Italian restaurant with all the Italians in NOLA. I chose to dine prior to the 6 p.m. parade. I was able to reserve a table for 2. But I am sure I would have been "unlucky" eating at Café Giovanni AFTER the parade. Food was great. Thank you for being on OpenTable!!!
The wait staff is amazing. Food was good. Manager noticed my Italian beads.:-) The manager allowed me to come BACK and use to powder room. Thank you.

"They brought the food out when we were still eating appetizer and had just received the App. Bruschetta was great. Fettuccine Alfredo tasted water down with no flavor. I have eaten there twice before and was always great. I am not sure what happens but probably won't come back."

"Made reservations for Valentines Day. Didn't get seated til 20 min after reservation. When we did get seated our we waited about 30 min until someone asked if we have been waited on. The waitress that asked us turned out to be our waitress. She didn't know that she had our table. The menu was limited which was a bit disappointing. We didn't get any bread while we waited in our appetizers. We didn't get our food for another 20 min. The food was not worth the wait. Might try again but it will be awhile"

"I went here because I needed to get a feel for Italian food. I got a meal in 5 minutes and it was so small, it felt like an appetizer. Then the bill was so huge for two "kid" dinners and neither one of us were full. We were done eating in 15 minutes. Very poor service and would not recommend this place."

"even though we had a confirmed reservation, we were made to wait 40 minutes for our agreed to seating. Also our food took an inordinate amount of time to be served. Two tables seated after us were served main course at least 20 minutes before we were served ours. This disrupted otherwise great food."
