Mappamondo returns after 11 years to the original location in the heart of the West Village with its authentic Italian cuisine of a classic Italian trattoria with an extraordinarily warm and cozy atmosphere, where you can sample the best simple, fresh, and delicious homemade food that Italy has to offer at reasonable prices. The service is warm and friendly and the wine list has the same quality and value as the food. Mappamondo means "Globe" in Italian, so the walls are covered with a large fresco vintage map, a collection of vintage globes, and an array of world themed items from teapots to cookie jars and bookends to globe candles. Mappamondo serves lunch and dinner 7 days a week from 12pm to 12am and brunch Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. Delivery and Take Out is also available.
"One of our regular restaurants we eat at in the West Village. Food is always good, service is, too. Reasonable prices. We've been many times and will continue to patronize."

"Must try the veggie patties --- I'm a meat eater and was skeptical of trying them, but they are amazing. I could have just eaten these alone for dinner all night. I had the salmon for dinner --- it was good, but could have been better if it was not over cooked."

"The restaurant was not ready for us when we arrived. We have just moved to the street next door and I was with my family, and a confirmed 8:30pm booking. The restaurant 1st said "we don't have it", and then a couple of mins later "we are not ready".
I suggested (rather than waiting in the cold) that we return in 10/15 mins, we did in 20 mins later and we still had to wait for over 20 mins. Apart from "we're sorry the other guests won't leave" the restaurant did little to accommodate our almost 60 min wait.
Very disappointing."

"The food was fantastic. But open table was wrong about not having a corkage fee. They charged $20 per bottle of wine and only allowed one bottle per 2 diners. If your wine cost more than $10 bucks its just not worth it. They have $30 wines on the menu!
The corkage fee was horrible but again the food was awesome, the place is tiny and cute, and the service was okay - not bad but not great!"

"Food was very good, service certainly needed improvement. Timing of server visits, passing food over other guests, etc. were some of the problems. Would consider going back as enjoyed the food."

"I wanted to rate this higher since I have enjoyed eating at Mappamondo VERY much in the past, but this evening ended up being a bit disappointing. Apparently only one person in the entire resto manages the OpenTable reservations, so when I made a same-day reservation and showed up at 8:00 on New Year's Eve, was dismayed to find out that there was no room due to a large party that had been booked. My husband and I ended up having to spend our festive dinner eating at the very tiny bar (we knew if we left and tried to find an alternative at 8:00 on NYE, we'd end up walking around in the cold, only to eat cereal at home). The food IS good, especially the mushroom tagliatelle, and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood."
