"The Buckhorn has been my wife's favorite for at least the last 20 years, and perhaps 30 years. Consistently good food, good service, and interesting mix of trophy cervids mounted around the room. Stated in only two words, "Great ambiance!" My wife usually has the prime rib, and there's always slices available in all ranges from rare to well done--said another way, you can order it anywhere from "still kicking" to "incinerated" and the waiter will bring it out to you along with your choice of potato, rice or pasta and veggies and your choice of salad. All the waiters we've been served by over the years are competent and personable.
The Buckhorn compares favorably to the restaurants I've visited in San Francisco and Sacramento."

"We have been customers for over 20 years and always enjoyed the excellent food and service. We have to drive over an hour to get here from home.
Saturday was a bummer. We had 6:30 reservations and arrived at 6:20. We checked in and the hostess stated our table would be available shortly as there were 2 reservations ahead of us. I checked again at 6:45 and was told we were 'almost next'. At 7:00 we were told there are reservation ahead of us.???? Finally, at 7:15 our signal went off. Very disappointing."

"I took my mother to the Buckhorn in Winters, California for a Mother's Day dinner. What a delightful surprise! The food was wonderful and the staff was the best. Bring your jacket, however, as they keep the dining room very cold."

"We were told it was one of the best steak houses in this area, by local winery after the fact not much to brag about being it is surrounded by fast food places. Well at least only fast food places near to this out of the way place. When we got there it was packed, recommend you get a reservation, and we were excited. How could a packed place be bad? Well, that was the best experience we had, besides or server who was great, the hostess who sat us was not. The short of it is this...steaks were bland, ribs had no meat on them, my steak was so tough I could barley cut it, and the price was WAY to high for food worse than chain restaurants. I would not recommend going there to anyone. go to Napa get a dinner 40-50$ less for two and 20x better."

"The Sunday BBQ at Buckhorn is a real steal. 2 meats, 2 sides for $13.99. The quality isn't quite what the regular menu offers, but it is less than half the price of the regular entrees. Able to add those dollars into a quality bottle of wine."

"This is the third time my husband and I have met friends for dinner here, and the third time we've been seated directly next to the front door! This time was better as the weather is warm now, but we were entertained by seeing every guest entering the restaurant. The service was good, our waiter was friendly and attentive and kept the drinks coming at the right frequency. We LOVED the warm spinach artichoke dip with pita chips - actually pita bread wedges - excellent garlicky flavor. My husband had salmon. I had seafood linguini. Both very good. Our son had the baseball sirloin and said it was the best he's ever had. The clam chowder was awesome. We always appreciate the nice ice cream cake served to our birthday celebrants."

"This is a good steakhouse with excellent meat and an excellent selection of beef. The The sides are OK. The salads served with the "baseball" 12-oz sirloins showed no imagination or originality. A restaurant of The Buckhorn's caliber should try a little harder in this area. Service was good. Very reasonable corkage fee of $10.
I would go again."

"The Filet Mignon was tender, delicious and perfectly seasoned. The Prime Rib was excellent. The baked potatoes had seasoning on the outside, wonderfully hot and baked to perfection. "The Buckhorn has the feel of the nice restaurants in the cowboy movies from the 1950's. The walls are covered by hunting trophies, and the menu has buffalo steaks (excellent taste and texture) which match the atmosphere created by the moose, elk, deer, pheasant, etc. which added additional conversation topics while we dined. The waiter was a young man, Chris Weber, who not only was attentive, but also very personable and engaging whenever he found an empty glass or bread basket. The place is my wife's favorite, and I look forward to bringing her there at every opportunity, except her birthday (also St. Patrick's Day), when the management brings in a bagpiper to entertain, but which my musical tastes find offensive."

"hate to recommend Buckhorn too much because I want to be able to get a table the next time I go the Winters for dinner. The great dinner starts with the historic building and the great little town of winters. The decor does not feel faux "old" it is real. The smeel draws you to the resturaunt and the food keeps you returning. The artichokes are unbelievable, the Baseball Sirlon, yes sirlon, is better than most high end steakhouse Filet Mignons, the service is great, if you make a reservation through open table, your table will be waiting for you when you arrive."

"Our meal was consistent with our dining here in the past. Service was very pleasant, prompt and carefully checking on us without becoming a pest.
The appetizers, grilled artichokes with an aoli and the succulent deep fried, crispy onions were a hit. The rib eye 24 oz. was more than I could consume after eating a healthy wedge salad (yummy) and my share of the appetizers.
We had one rib eye entrée returned to cook longer and that was handled very courteously by staff. My 19 year old son did not care for his shrimp selection but my boyfriend loved it when we returned home! Personal preference.

"My husband and I were 1st timers on a Wednesday evening which is "all you can eat rib night." The decor matches it's name with large antlered bucks embedded on the wall. I opted for the rack of lamb medium rare. My husband had the rib eye steak medium. The orders were mixed up, but we didn't care and it worked out well because we got to try out each other's potato selection. The garlic potatoes were delish and the baked was well salted on the crust. Both meat platters were tender with a braise of light marinade. The asparagus was a bit crunchy being steamed, but edible. The salads were prepared fresh as was the dressings. We ordered desserts: carrot cake and lemon, blueberry cake. Very good- not gummy like some can get but fresh and tasty."

"It's unfortunate they charge extra for Caesar salad, and up until this point no waiter has informed is of this while dining. Other than that, the food as always was amazing. "After making a reservation several days prior to our visit to Buckhorns and adding that it was my boyfriends 60th birthday I was surprised that we were not even asked if we had a preference for a table or booth. We were just shown to a table. Things went fine until after the salad when we found ourselves waiting "forever" for our entree to be served. The waiter came over a couple of times to say it would be a few more minutes.
I was also disappointed when our waiter brought a piece of cake over to my boyfriend after our meal and whispered Happy Birthday to him. "Very easy to get a last-minute reservation on Easter Weekend through Open Table. When we arrived, we were seated right away. Our waiter was very friendly and entertaining. The steaks were done perfectly. Grilled artichoke and clam chowder was great. Our only problem is that we ate too much! Our waiter even topped off our feast with a complementary Mud Pie, which took us into the final food coma.
The outdoor patio is very inviting, and I hope to come back in warmer weather to enjoy a meal outside!"

"This is my boyfriends favorite steak place - he says it's better than Ruth Chris's or Morrison. The steaks are terrific, the waitress was the one of the best I've ever had the joy of meeting and the corkage fee was reasonable. The atmosphere is loud and which isn't the best for a romantic dinner - but when you're enjoying one of the best steaks you've ever had, there isn't much room to experience romance."

"We love the historic feel of this place – energetic and romantic with great dining inside as well as outside. We will definitely return as this has become one of our favorite places to dine. The Shrimp Scampi and Rib Eye Steak were amazing. The wine list was plentiful and the service was well-timed and friendly, outside seating is a must for that romantic dining experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the Buckhorn!"

"Baja cocktail: Poor texture/bland flavor.....Mushroom soup a little thick but had a nice flavor. Free range chicken breast w/ravioli. Very mediocre. But worst of all was that our "waiter" Ellis simply disappeared! Over priced for what we received."

"Overpriced regular menu. Went for the Sunday night 'BBQ special' priced right where you chose 2 items for meat and two side items. I chose the sausage and chicken...bad choice.
Sausage small and overcooked and chicken breast was dry (Why did I not receive a chicken leg quarter like other diners??) Not returning anytime soon. Bar drinks overpriced too."

"After living in the area for 8 years our schedules finally allowed us to try out your establishment. For years we have enjoyed smelling the aroma's oozing out of your kitchen, making our mouths water I might add, and looked forward to actually tasting the food generating such enticing aroma's. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed at all. The moment we walked in the door our experience was superb. The service impeccable, the timing spot on, and the menu selections completely unexpected. When we finally decided what to order our evening only improved, the food was beyond our expectations and we will absolutely be back. Thank you so much."

"Buckhorn aged tri-tips being bbq'd in the parking lot immediatly wet our appetites.
Seated in a windowseat greatly reduced the noise level but when another couple was seated in the windowseat next to us it did take away a little of our cozy romantic experience.
We started off with the calamari and it is the best we have ever had! Perfectly tender.
The spinning salad would of been more of a specatacle if it was prepared on a lower table so we could watch but that took nothing away from the amazing symphony of flavors.
The tomahawk ribeye and asparagus were perfection. The steaksauce was wonderful on our baked potatoes."

"Based upon my friend's recent visit, she decided this was the place to celebrate her birthday. So three of us drove 45-50 miles away...and it was worth it. We shared the juicy, tender 48oz Rib Eye for two medium well(cooked prefectly)...I thought it would be waaayy too much but it was sooooo good that only a small portion was taken home. Even though we were three, we only ordered an extra side of garlic potatoes (which we determined wasn't necessary yet very good). We talked about the dinner and our friendship all the way home. We will be back to the restaurant and to check out the nearby shops."

"Food is always great at the Buckhorn. Our server annoyed me with his Woody Woodpecker laugh and attempts at humor, but he served us well. We were seated at a table directly under an air conditioning vent and basically froze throughout our meal. My husband gave his jacket to my elderly father. If he hadn't, my father could not have enjoyed his meal. I asked the young women at the desk if the vent could be closed or the temperature adjusted, and I was told no. The noise was so intense that we could converse only with the one person closest to us.. Three in our party were celebrating birthdays, so we enjoyed and shared three comp servings of mud pie. Next time, I'll request a table far from an air vent."
