"What a treat! Everything our party of four ordered for brunch on Father's Day was unique and tasty. ..the menu changes weekly but be sure to try the best burger in Tampa, whatever the choice of the week might be. And who would expect poached eggs on top of oyster cakes on top of cornbread with a little hollandaise sauce to be yummy? - it was delicious! An excellent experience overall."

"Our entire party of four felt the food and the dining experience overall was overrated for all of the hype the local and national media has created. The atmosphere was casual but felt somewhat sterile.Our server was real good, however, the entire place and staff seemed to lack energy. Two people in our party ordered the burger. Both said it was good. I ordered the pink shrimp and grits with a cold almond soup. The soup lacked real flavor and the grits were too soupy for my liking. The shrimp was prepared perfectly.The fourth member of our party ordered the steak and, like the burgers, it was just ok. The drinks (beer and wine) were excellent. Overall, the food was good, definately not great. The atmosphere needs more energy"

"We had a late Wednesday night dinner. It was quiet, but not dead. The food and beer were great and the servers and management fantastic. The upper deck is a great outdoor spot. There was a mix-up with the kitchen, so our food was delayed, but the staff an management handled it all beautifully. We will definitely tell our friends and be back next time we are in town!"

"My wife and I are regulars (weekly) and decided to eat inside due to the rainy weather on Saturday. The food was excellent. Peter our server was great. But my god is it noisy inside. I had a headache almost immediately and we remembered quickly why we always try to eat upstairs. Oh we'll it's part of The Refinery experience and won't stop us from continuing to go weekly (and eat outside or the bar)."

"A great experience in Seminole Heights, the food experience is as singular and unique as the neighborhood! "For the quality of the food the prices were incredibly high. My partner and I split an entree and a starter, and paid for half of our friend's bday entree--for $60. We had the amberjack, and I wish I had taken the money and purchase the fish myself and cooked it. The fish was so bland, and none of the food accopamying it did anything to compliment that. Even the potatoes had all of the old bay flavor washed away in the dashi. It was basically a bowl of salt water over bland potatoes, with a mild fish to top. However the dill and cucumber creme fraiche was good.
The space was also so noisy that we weren't able to carry on a decent conversation with my friend across the table."

"I had read good reviews and wanted to check it out for myself. We were the first ones in for Monday dinner. Staff made us feel welcomed. By the time we left (an hour later) the place was almost full downstairs! The food was AWESOME. I'm a vegetarian and their veggie options were extremely unique and flavorful. "This was our first visit to the Refinery and we would definitely go back. The entrees were delicious - Braised short ribs and Amberjack fish. Tried both desserts listed and was impressed with the craft beer selection available. Very reasonable prices for the quality and the quantity of portions.
The only con - a little noisy in the small dining room, but since it's a very casual atmosphere this works out ok. We may try the upstairs deck next time."

"We showed up for the Sunday brunch service on 6/2/2013 @ 1245. Overall the menu rocked, with about 8 or 9 main brunch selections to choose from. My mom is a pesto-vegetarian and she easily found an option to her liking, which doesn't happen quite so easily at most restaurants. The service was exceptional ( sorry dude, can't recall your name) Also a beautiful blonde came over to ensure a slip/fall situation didnt occur due to salt on floor. Thanks, Beauty. To sum it up if you haven't checked this spot out you are missing out. That says alot because I am selfish and dont want alot of hammerheads clogging up the spot for me next time, but I'd rather they be prosperous and benefit from their hard work and effort in a tough business/economy."

"While at first the menu seems a little intimidating especially for non-vegan diners, it turned out to be a wonderful experience for our party. The food was excellent, fresh and for us, very unique. "We arrived early to have a drink upstairs prior to our reservation. The service and wine was very nice. We proceeded downstairs for our dinner reservation and it was so noisy we could not talk and both hurried through dinner so we could leave the excruciating noise level. The food was just ok, but we were so uncomfortable having to shout at one another I do not know if the cuisine stood a chance. We will not be returning."

"I typically reserve judgement until two visits, but I don't live in Tampa. After MANY recommendations from natives in the industry, we felt this was a no brainer. It was a fail. It started with mediocre service including calling me while I'm dining to see if I was coming in. The service was relaxed, which I don't mind and there was decent knowledge of the menu. The food was terrible. From Boiled Peanuts (description is accurate, no flavor) to Red Bean Hummus (aka Frito Bean Dip) to Pork Belly, not tender?? Chicken and Beef Shank were highly recommended by staff, both disasters. Chicken was a salt lick, beef was jerky. Beer list is decent but wine list is horrendous. I now understand why chain restaurants do so well in Tampa."

"Have been hearing the "buzz" about The Refinery for some time . Maybe we missed it or the chef was home with Mom but the food we were served was fair at best !?
My wife & I enjoy trying different / new restaurants in Tampa and we were hoping for a special meal . I had the cobia she had the hangar steak . Had to cut the cobia with a steak knife . The steak was good , not special . Had bread pudding for dessert . Once again good not special !?
Had to ask the waiter twice on each request for the wine ice bucket , fresh pepper & napkins ? We wish these folks the best as we would love to enjoy an off the grid independent eatery !!"

"This place is super cute. Only reason the ambience rating is a little low is because the surrounding neighborhood is just a little shady. Has an awesome upstairs patio but your vista is used car lots and exterminators :)
Food was excellent. Small menu, good variety of choices, diverse wine list very reasonably priced which is a real bonus. Had a "maters" appetizer that was fresh tomatos three ways sliced, diced and in a sorbet. Yum. Both had the chicken on house made biscuits. Great flavor!"

"Must try for foodies. Very small menu with a variety of foods you won't see at your typical chains. Vegetarian and Gluten free options. Great variety of craft beers. They change the menu weekly and use local produce whenever possible. We had the pork belly small plate to start which was fabulous as were our entrees. I was concerned that my boyfriend was not going to like the options they had on the menu as he is very picky and not very adventurous when it comes to food but he enjoyed it and said he would love to go back. Gourmet type food but in a very relaxed environment. Our server was very attentive and took alot of time going over the beer menu and specials."

"I was referred to The Refinery by coworkers for my dad's 60th birthday. (I took him on a small "foodie tour" of Seminole Heights. The Refinery served as our main dining spot for supper.) At first we thought the menu appeared limited, but there really is something for everyone. All five people in our dinner party loved what they ordered...everything was delicious! I also thought it was amazingly priced for the excellent quality of food we were served. I am looking forward to heading back there soon."

"The Refinery has been both times I have gone a very delightful experience. Beer selection is excellent. Wine too. The food is unique and flavorful. Portion Sizes are medium but can be considered just right for some. But for a Beer drinking place I suggest more bar food for the beer drinkers. ;-) I suggest throw some of the food talent at some of the usual stuff and give it a "refinery" edge.
Over all I would recommend this place to anyone. Good Job Refinery I hope you do well and stay open so I can enjoy this place more."

"If you are an adventurous eater then this is your spot. Since the menu varies there is no chance of boredom. Some combinations are more a hit than others but there is never a 'bad' dish on the menu. For more conservative palates the burger is always a great option and the bread pudding!"

"We had a reservation for 8:45 on a Saturday night. We were sat right away, but a larger party waiting for a table literally stood right by our table, making it somewhat awkward. The sweet tea served in mason jars was not too sweet, just perfect. The food took a little longer than expected to come out, but it was hot and delicious. I know the menu changes every week, no repeats, but the Wookie Pie needs to be a permanent fixture, or at least give me the recipe!"

"After rave reviews of the Refinery, we were looking forward to an enjoyable dinner. We could not have been more disappointed. We ventured north for a different dining experience, but the food didn't come close to meeting our expectations, and the ambience was terrible. It was so loud in the dining room, we had to shout across the table to be heard. My pork was greasy and fatty, and the grouper was tasteless.. The only enjoyable portion of the meal was our wine and bread pudding dessert. We will not be coming back."

"Had brunch on Sunday at this hot spot with its up and coming chef and food options that rival those found in bigger cities in originality and presentation. The Manmosa is a great alternative to a predictable mimosa and the cheese grits that are available with some brunch selections or as a side are better than your Southrrn grandmother's best attempt as ours was made from scratch. The service was better than what you would find in most area restaurants and the meal was evenly paced as it should be on a relaxing Sunday in town. Definitely going back to try some of the other original creations fellow diners ordered which were well received."

"This is the second time we have been to the Refinery and been disappointed. My husband order the buttermilk braised pork chop which was dry.
I was recently put on a special diet by my doctor. I ordered the steak which came with blue cheese mashed potatoes which i could not eat. I said I would give them to my husband, but asked if I could order a side of the quinoa we had with our appetizer. No, the chef is unwilling to make any changes to his dishes.
We consider ourselves to be foodies attending many food events including the James Beard Dinner. The next day we went to Park Shore Grill and had a much better experience. They went out of their way to accommodate me, even offering to make dishes not on the menu which I did not expec"

"The food was interesting and creative but the descriptions were better than the actual taste.The acoustics were horrific. It was soooo loud that we couldn't wait to get out of there.Portions were small and prices high for what you get....Maybe I ordered the wrong things. "Its very understandable why Greg Baker came in as semi-finalist in the James Beard Award and not a winner. He has amazing ability to take cuts of meat that most would never use and make them absolutely delicious. But, that's where things start heading downward. Its' the little things that make the dining experience a success. Number one, plate warmers should be standard. Nothing ruins a dish than having the food go cold especially when he gets cute with weird sides like pimento cheese grits. When its cold, its just gross. Number two, if you're going to serve coffee (no cappuccino?!) be sure you have half & half at the very least. Lastly, the "signature" dessert is pathetic. If he wants to get the level of Husk, he needs to step up."

"This dining experience was a dissapointment. The farm to table concept was its selling point going in but the flavor and quality of the dishes when they hit the table were bland, dry or oversalted. The server was very nice, helpful and informative. I also feel as though the ambiance lacked warmth and cohesiveness. In short, the idea was there but the execution was lacking."

"Chef came to speak to me about the small plate mistake and gave me one to make up for it. Im sure this is not the norm for the Refinery. Everything else we ordered was delightful to the palate as well as the eye. Portions are fair, so ordering a small plate for the fun of it will not be too much. while its not "kid oriented" they are equally friendly to small people."
