"Food quality at this restaurant has goon down dramatically in the past six months or so...attention to detail is no longer there. Our order was delivered 10 minutes after taken...this tells one a whole lot was microwaved and not prepared when served."

"We brought our 98 year old aunt with us (tickets to overture that evening). She loved the squash bisque and had the philo and bree appetizer as her entre. I traded her some of the wonderful mashed potatoes that came with my lamb chop entre and it was obvious whe enjoyed that the best. I asked our waitress for a side for her. I scraped some of my gravy on it and she was in heaven and full after finishing her philo & bree. Fortunately the waitress was able to give us a table away from any big parties which helped with the noise level as she wears hearing aids. She had a lovely time and said it was great food. If the weather is good on May 21st, we want to sit outside with her and celebrate her 99th birthday! Maryann Bast"

"We had a great experience. We went for Valentine's day and requested a romantic table and they gave us a perfect corner one. I would love to try the restaurant during the warmer months when we could sit outside! It's a great place for a special occasion, but a little pricey for a young couple otherwise. It was $115 including a bottle of wine, tax and tip for 2 of us. But great if relatives are visiting and want a nice dinner place! Not really for the elderly as it is a bit loud...Overall great experience! Thanks, Fresco!"

"Hip environment for Madison but acoustics are poor. It was very loud and hard to hear my husband. The worst part of our experience was that everything we had (app, salad, entrees) were very salty. The salt was very overpowering and made it hard to taste anything else. Our server was fantastic! Nice downtown view"

"What a nice surprise! As a tourist trying to find a good bite to eat with friends, I did not walk in with really any significant expectations. But this place was on par with some of the best, most creative restaurants in San Francisco! great wine selection and everything we tasted was really really really well done. All creative flavor combos and attractive presentations- this place is a winner. Our server was phenomenal and had great ideas about all the food options and wine selections. I even went back the next evening for more on the menu that I did not taste the first night!"

"We made a 9pm reservation for the late night menu which was supposed to be 9-11. We got there a little early and the waitress made us wait until 9:10 to order off the late night menu. By 10:15 they were asking us for our last food and drink requests because they were shutting down. What a load that advertisement for 9-11 was. Sorry to inconvience the staff by wanting to take advantage of an advertised special."

"Our meal was delicious. There were 4 adults and a 2 year old. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and brought bread immediately for the little one. I had told them in advance that one in our party was on a gluten free diet. Almost immediately, someone came to the table to ask who that was so they could work with the chef on a menu for her.
The risotto with my dinner was as good as any I've had and all meals were presented in the most artsy and appealing designs. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

"I think Fresco is over rated. The menu is pricey for the quality and taste of the food. Its just ok and for the price definitely not worth it. I would not say the food is bad just not worth the expensive price tag attached to it. The ambiance is nothing special and the only note worth making is the view of the Capital. This summarizes the dinner..my husband and I ordered the special Fondue dessert. When it came out it sealed the disappointment for the night...the chocolate was in a dish, harden and not over a mini fire to keep it warm, that's not a fondue but a dish of chocolate with fruit around it! However the one redeeming quality is the friendliness of the service both from the waiters and hostess."

"A great find! We were early but our table was ready. Service was impecable from the cocktails and throughout dinner. Bar was very modern and fun. Would be a fun place in warm weather so you could enjoy outside dining. Tables are close together but you do not feel as if you are a part of someone else's conversation. "I got the Lamb Lollipop Chops, and I have to say they were terrible. They had no flavor whatsoever, and were definitely overcooked. I would not recommend this restaurant for the food, but the ambiance is great. Also the dessert, beignets, were amazing. So if you do end up picking to go here, I would suggest coming after dinner for some dessert and wine."

"We visited Fresco the week after the January 2010 restaurant week. The restaurant was empty except for one other table of two. Needless to say, we had excellent service and the noise levels and ambiance was great. The food and cocktails were excellent. We tried two appetizers and 4 four entrees in our group and all of them were excellent."

"The staff was extraordinary and seemed genuinely concerned about my dining experience. The food was absolutely amazing (Ricotta Cheese Gnocchi!!) and as someone who is notoriously indecisive about which wine I should drink, it was nice to have a waitress who could recommend a drink or two. And the view was beautiful! There is nothing like seeing the city you love from a new vantage point to help you find so much more to appreciate."

"We enjoyed our meal. My boyfriend had the gnocchi and I was VERY envious. YUM. Both myself and our friend thought the salmon was a bit dry and not that special. I would not have been happy with the salmon had I payed full price for it (even at a bigger portion) as the flavor and preparation was just OK. Also everyone's brussel sprouts were very undercooked. The seared scallop app was OUTSTANDING and the chocolate soup was very very good. It was very loud and hard to talk above the crowd. It's a pretty place -hip and fun...the wine list was great. I am happy to have tried it and will go back to try again in the summer....but it won't be on the top of my list of places to go again very soon."

"Finally got to check out dinner at Fresco during restaurant week. The staff handled the hoards beautifully. We got efficient, attentive service from the moment we walked in until the moment, much, much later, that we finished every last bit of our cinnamon Crème brûlée and sipped our last drop of wine. The food was delicious, the salmon for the main course was perfectly cooked. The only thing I found disappointing was the appetizer, it was great in flavor, but the portion was comical: a single seared sashimi grade scallop. Being presented with a single scallop, or a single prawn, or anything smaller than a square inch on a plate sends the following message: We are a pretentious hipster restaurant and we think you need to go on a diet.:)"

"I have been here before, and I absolutely love the restaurant. The price is a little out there (more for a special occasion). However, the menu is above and beyond what most restaurants in this price range offer, and I love the contemporary style. I went during restaurant week in Madison, so it was a little noisy, but usually the noise is pretty conservative."

"We went to Fresco for Restaurant Week before seeing RENT. The fixed menu had several appealing options in each group. I chose the seared scallop for an appetizer that was very tasty, but may have been a bit undercooked. The Norwegian salmon claimed to be organic, although I have been informed by another party that there is no such thing as organic fish. Despite that, the salmon was wonderful with the fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts with lightly fried chives. I tried the ricotta gnocchi as well and while delicious, it was a bit too rich for me. For dessert, I had the pear brulee that was good, but the aroma of liquor was a bit strong. My friend scraped up every bit of her creme brulee. Overall, I very much enjoyed my meal!"

"You guys did great, service with a smile. I partook in restaurant weeks menu . The salad I had was very unique very good love the dressing . I then had a salmon that was cooked to perfection nice grill lines and a nice crisp to the outside while very moist and tender on the inside . It was served with brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes but what set this dish off was sauce yum yum . After that I went into food coma and still having desert left to try . I went with a warm chocolate soup the crutons had a hint of what I believe was cinnamon it was excellent."

"Restaurant has a beautiful ambiance with lots of candles and windows all around to enjoy views of the capital and state street. Can't wait to go back in the summer to sit on their outdoor patio. The food was very good, but portions were a bit small for the price. Drinks were also quite pricey, but mixed perfectly."

"Our office had a private pre-theatre party at Fresco in November. An unusual and delicious buffet was a hit with our group. I just took my 2 grown daughters for dinner this Saturday before another event at the Overture. The wine, appetizers, presentation, and food were all first-rate. The very helpful, knowledgeable, scruffy and cute waiter helped too!"

"Fresco was wonderful. We celebrated my wife's birthday. We had a 6:30pm reservation and went to a show at the Overture afterward. The ambiance is romantic, waitstaff - excellent! and food was out of this world good and reasonably priced. I can't imagine how great it must be in the summer when you can sit outside on the roof! We had salmon and herb crusted ono and it was flavor-filled and tasty. They even gave my wife a free dessert for her birthday. Classy and a memorable touch to a really nice evening. What a dining gem for Madison. I give it an A++ and would highly recommend this restaurant to others."

"The restaurant was full so the noise level was too high for our comfort. We could barely hear one another across our table. Our salads and my scallop appetizer were far too salty. In fact, my salad had large grains of salt in the greens. The chicken fresco was uninspired. Finally, the dinner ware was too cute and impractical. For example, I was unable to find a place on the large dinner plate where my knife would not slip down into the food, and the red glass platters did not readily accommodate the long appetizer dish. We prefer better quality food and less pretense."

"We agreed its a great place for a meal on a weeknight when the noise level is typically less. Vibrant bar scene above may apply some nights but fortunately on this Tues night it did not apply. My husband's dish was very good, my fish was excellent. Staff was very attentive. We will visit again."

"The food was very good. My husband had the pork cassoulet which he found to be very tasty. I had lamb chops which were tender and cooked the way I requested. The grilled vegetable salad was excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeble and very attentive. We will definitely return there. The four of us were very satisified."

"From the moment we walked in the door, it was a great experience. The hostess was friendly and helpful, the waitress was attentive and friendly as well! The food was absolutely outstanding (I had the duck). My girlfriend and I stuck to the riesling and we then each had a glass of desert wine. They had a great list to choose from and I look forward to exploring their great wine options!"

"A creative chef whose creativity is exciting and imaginative much of the time. The staff is sensitive to moving people out at curtain time and its proximity to performances make it an ideal choice for pre-show dinners, when it is usually sold out. The down-side is the noise level which is quite acceptable on a quiet night but very high when in full swing before a major performance."

"The food at Fresco was excellent. Everything was prepared as described and tasted great. The drinks are a little pricey at $8+ each, but overall they were very good, also. Their menu is seasonal, so it does tend to change. And the items on the menu are often-times obtained locally. Dessert was fantastic. If you like chocolate, try the chocolate soup. It's like fudge in a cup!

Service was very good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but not overly intrusive during our meal. They also have outdoor dining, but, being winter, that wasn't an option.

Prices were not inexpensive, but not out of line, either. Good for a nice dinner. For two, you're looking at around $100 or so plus tip.

Overall, we'd love to come back here."

"This is a small popular restaurant with a seating capacity of about 65. It sits on the rooftop of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, which is adjacent to the Overture Center for the Arts and the windows afford wonderful views of downtown Madison, including a roof garden for dining when weather permits. The menu has a nice variety to suit all appetites. The food is consistently delicious, prepared as much as possible with locally grown produce, and artfully presented. Entrees range from $18 to $28 and the menu is a la carte. The wine list, although not super extensive, offers enough selection for most palates, certainly mine. The staff is always warm and personable. Reservations are a must."

"Wonderful dining experience. Decor is very pleasing, food amazing and service great. Would definitely recommend to anybody that wants great food and a pleasureable dining experience. The shrimp diablo appetizer has just the right kick and the grilled cesar salad great. The herb encrusted ono done to perfection and the beef tenderloin was out of this world. Everything perfectly proportioned and I would highly recommend the desserts. The pear brulee was delightful and the butter milk beingets to die for."
