This tiny jewel of a place in Mamaroneck, NY packs a big punch with delicious Northern Italian delicacies and an excellent wine list delivered via an impeccable staff. Rich wood, chandeliers and civil sound levels provide an impress-a-date setting at a cost that is not that expensive for the neighborhood. It is recognized for excellence and one of the best Italian restaurants in Mamaroneck.

"The almost unheard of happened on Saturday evening at Il Castello - everyone raved about their food. By everyone I mean 4 adults and 5 kids. The picky kid, the vegetarian kid, the dieting mums and the carnivore dads - everyone was happy. All I will add is that we'll be back, soon."

"This restaurant is between 4 and 5 stars. The food was great from the stuffed artichoke to the veal dishes to the tiramisu.
The service was excellent but we waited too long for our entrees and kept eating the bread. The other problem was the noise level. Still I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I would definitely return."

"This was our first time. We wanted to try something different. I came across it by doing a google search for Westchester restaurants, plus saw article in local paper. We were there the Saturday before Mother's Day. They were extremely busy. Not sure if this place was busy because of the article in the paper (the couple next to us had never been either), the fact it was MD weekend, or a combo of both. Could be this is the norm. The food was very good, we would give it another chance. Although the wait staff was very friendly, the service was just not good. Our drink order taken immediately, but took about 15mins to get them. Later, after 3 attempts to get waiter attention was able to order another. We would give it another try."

The wait staff were attentive and very helpful. We even wanted to move to a bigger table during Mother's day when it was pretty crowded and they made that happen. Will certainly go back!"

"My wife and I went here for her birthday and I could not have picked a better place. The staff was amazing, very attentive but not over bearing. The food was top notch. The Caesar Salad was fantastic, prepared table side. We both had pasta dishes. My wife loved her capellini with eggplant, spinach, and tomatoes and I will dream about my home made fettuccini with sausage, escarole, and white beans until I go back. I called ahead and we had a bottle of persecco waiting at the table for us when we arrived, and a plate with cheese and olives (on the house) when we sat down. They also gave us dessert on the house (ricotta cheesecake) with a candle and sang happy birthday. Overall it was a very special night and I cant wait to go back."

"Had a pleasant time here. The service we experienced was excellent. It was a Saturday night and our reservation was at 7. When we arrived we may have filled the last table. It then got more crowded as the place is cozy and the noise level naturally rose. Food was very good and may have been excellent, I am not qualified to really judge. I would go back on a weeknight to compare service and noise level to a Saturday where employees may approach their work differently than on a Saturday night."

"We have been visiting Il Castello for a few years and are never dissapointed. Lenny and his team always go the extra mile to make our dinner a wonderful experience. "A small gem of a northern Italian restaurant. The opposite of pretentious. The menu was both traditional and inventive- the whole artichoke appetizer was delicious (but very filling- if you're not ravenously hungry, you might want to share it). The service was remarkable- every single person we dealt with was welcoming and gracious, as well as responsive (from the maitre d' right to the valet parker). We will definitely go back."

"One of the finer Italian restaurants in westchester area. The staff is very personable and makes you feel as if your family. The food is always made fresh and delicious. Been there 5 times already and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend. Call Ahead to make reservations."

"It was the first time for us at this restaurant. We had been at a theater show nearby and this restaurant was a convenient place to have dinner. We were nicely welcomed by the host and who gave us the menu and told us about some specials for the the day. We ordered from the specials as appetizer clams with mussels in wine sauce which were very flavorful. For entree we had veal valdostano and grilled halibut. Both of the entrees were nicely done. A red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo de Zaccagnini wine complimented beautifully our meal. For dessert we I had canoli artistically presented along with capuccino. The decor was very italian with nice paintings on the walls. A gentle music played on the backround. The service was very good and attentive."

"This is the best Italian restaurant in Southern Westchester. Other places are fancier, and even prettier, but if what you want is consistently phenomenal food and attentive, professional service, with an excellent wine list, this is the place. There is an older and I would say wiser crowd here. They do not come to be seen. They come (and have obviously been coming for decades) because this place is top notch."

"We went as a party of 4 on a Saturday night at 7 PM, with an Open table reservation, and were seated immediately. Service was excellent start to finish, as was the waiter. All the food was wonderful. Everybody was happy. Fresh, tasty, and cooked as requested. Pasta was a perfect al dente. You can tell all food was brought out the moment it was prepared in the kitchen. We did find that the tables are very close together, with no room at all between them. Very little waiting area if table not ready upon arrival. This is a small place, and they were eager to turn tables - not a second is wasted. Including desert we were there 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 hrs, and felt a need to leave to free up our table. Eager to return with such good food."

"Il Castello is consistently excellent, from the warm greeting when we arrived to attentive and helpful service throughout the evening. The food is also consistent -- very tasty, a large choice of daily specials in addition to a full menu of options, and presented in an attractive way. Butternut squash soup was excellent, as was the calamari appetizer. Pasta, fish and veal also shine. The space is a little tight, especially when the restaurant is full, but everyone works hard to make the guests feel comfortable and appreciated. All in all, a very pleasant experience."
