"The Hardware Grill should really look at their menu and adjust their prices according to value/presentation. My entree (Surf & Turf- chicken and lobster mac & cheese) was less than impressive and far from tasty to say the least, at $38 and one of the cheaper selections, I definitely expect more!
Our server was great; he was polite, happy and not too bothersome or pretentious.
The hostess was not as happy…she barely broke a smile when we entered.

"My dinner at the Hardware Grill was disappointing. Our server was disinterested in helping us have an exceptional time and when
we asked for suggestions he said it depended on what we liked and half-heartedly named two dishes without any explanation.
He kept our waters full and brought out food but i felt like it was a drag for him to be waiting on our table.
The only time he engaged with us was to explain how we should calculate his gratuity.

"The wine list was endless, the food was amazing, portion sizes were generous, seafood was so fresh tasting. A few minor details seemed out of place, a questionable wine decanter and some decorations, but service was fast and attentive. Amazing experience. "Inspired menu items with fresh local ingredients. Definitely lives up to the hype. Had the romaine salad, chevre beet salad, and burrata cheese to start. All fantastic - the chevre beet salad was rich and very well balanced, the burrata was simple and delicious. Had the tenderloin with bone marrow and the vegetarian tasting entree. The tenderloin was overcooked the first time but came back perfectly cooked. My only gripe was that the bone marrow was reused when served the 2nd time, so most of it had melted out leaving almost nothing let. The vegetarian tasting option had lots of variety, at least 4-5 different items on the plate. It was very rich however, so a touch on the heavy side although delicious."

"We were a party of 6 and everyone had a fantastic meal! The wine was spectacular. Service is great and attentive when you first arrive but once the food is ordered it drops off drastically. We always have to pour our own wine, ask for water and ask for a dessert menu. They never seem to offer coffee either. This exact thing happened our last time dining at the Hardware Grill.. . He was professional and personable but seemed to be way too busy to give us the attention a larger table needs. We truly enjoy the food at the Hardware Grill but would love to get better service in the future."

"This was our first time to Hardware after hearing about it for years.
Everything was very good. We really enjoyed the Bacon wrapped Scallop appetizer, the Walnut crusted goat cheese salad and the Bacon wrapped Elk and Beef Shortrib entree. We also really loved the Q (in house filtered) water that was automatically served to every table.
We found the whole experience slightly lacking however. The service staff were all highly professional, but lacked any real engagement or passion over anything at all, which left us feeling a little cold.
After 30 years managing in the industry , we've found a smile and some enthusiasm go a long way towards enhancing the dining experience making it outstanding."

"Food was generally good. I ordered the beet salad to start....portion of goat cheese was so large it over powered the dish. For the main I had the crab crusted salmon. It was terrible. It was so salty that it only had one flavour...salt. Another member of our party that ordered it also commented how salty it was. I shared the molten chocolate cake for dessert. It was very nice. Server was excellent. It took a very long time to get our mains...almost 45 mins."

"We're from Calgary, but ALWAYS have dinner at the Hardware Grill when we go to Edm. It has been consistently good for the 10 years we have been going there in terms of food, service and great wine offerings. Had veal liver and it was really amazingly good. Husband had a shortrib and ramen noodle appetizer and lobster mac, shortrib amazing, ramen noodles sliding all over the plate when you tried to cut them - a bit odd, but flavour great.One complaint was the creme brulee and maple bacon donut dessert. Creme brulee was beautiful, but the accompanying doughnut was a cake doughnut - felt a bit cheap tasting against the creme brulee. Maple glaze was great, however the bacon too smoky-almost an artificial smoky taste."

"We had a very good dinner before heading to the Winspear Centre for a show. When we arrived we were told that our table wasn't ready and we were seated at the bar. When I mentioned that we had to be finished dinner by a certain time, the hostess indicated that it was my fault for not indicating that in the reservation and she would do what should could to hurry things along. We were seated at the bar while waiting our table and treated to a drink. The bartender, upon hearing our time constraints, found our waiter and made arrangements for our order so that everything would go smoothly and we wouldn't be too rushed once we were seated at our table.
At this restaurant, I was very surprised that our reservation time was not respected."

"The service and food are both great. We had soup of yesterday and bacon wrapped scalloped for our first course and for the main course we had the porcini crusted sea bass. It was a big serving so my wife and I shared it which is a good idea cause otherwise,we wont have space for for our dessert! Anyway, my wife wanted to try the butterscotch pudding for the dessert, but was advised by our server not to since the scotch flavor is very prominent and my wife does not drink that much. So we had the mango and espresso ice cream are equally good!the chocolate with "happy anniversary" writing that came with our dessert is really sweet of them :) All in all, we're very happy with the service and food and we'll be coming back again for sure :)"

"We found the presentation of the food quite nice however, the over use of salt spoiled the meal. Although the service was attentive there were several slip ups that diners do not expect when paying these prices."

"Very good for a special occasion as we were celebrating (anniversary). My only complaint is that there was a large group nearby us that was quite loud and rowdy that sort of ruined the intimate dining experience for us this time. Otherwise this is our favourite anniversary restaurant. Every time we book something else we are disappointed so we were happy to be back at our favorite restaurant in the City."

"We were staggered between 2 seatings times of large groups so we had to yell at each other to talk during what was supposed to be a romantic date. Our waiter hardly checked on us between courses so the miscommunication of an extra appetizer was served as an entree, so we had to wait for the 2nd entree to come out about 20 minutes after the 1st was served. He eventually came around & apologized for the wait. The entree was taken off our bill & he was attentive after the 2nd entree came out.
Try the Kobe Beef Carpaccio, it was the best part of the meal. The Torchon was good but it's quite rich with the buttered toast. Be forewarned: the 12 year old Glenlivet Butterscotch Pudding is really booze-y, it's not cooked down for the flavor."

"Best food I've had by far. Stopped in because it was rated number one on trip advisor and was not disappointed the prices were high but the good was worth it. I had the sea bass and our melted in my mouth.and a lot of famous chefs and people have eastern here.definatly the place to go if you're in Edmonton"

"Overall the food was very good. The lobster in the risotto was extremely tough. The service we received was quite good however, we had to ask for a second cocktail as it was not offered. The server appeared to be impatient with our questions.
The creme brûlée was amazing. We also tried the small endings desert platter and not one thing on there was "delicious"."

"The food and service, as always, was perfect! If you go before 6:15 pm, you can take advantage of a three course menu for a set price of about $50 per person. There are usually three choices for each of the appetizer and main courses with two selections for dessert. We have enjoyed the Hardware Grill a number of times over the years. In fact, our daughter and son-in-law had their wedding rehearsal dinner here a couple of months ago."

"It was nice to be able to take kids to a higher end restaurant, so many times as a family you are stuck going to a chain restaurant!!! They don't have a kids menu but were very accommodating to make up something for them to eat!! Fantastic experience will defiantly be back!!"

"I'd been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, and took the opportunity of Downtown Dining Week to give it a try. Unfortunately I didn't realize until I got there that the Dining Week menu was over, which was at first disappointing. My friend and I each had a tomato bisque, duck spring roll, kobe beef burger, and smoked salmon. It was all delicious, though the smoked salmon dish was a touch salty and the side quesadilla was a bit cheesy (which is not a bad thing, but I wasn't in a very cheesy mood). The server was very friendly, and the decor was suiting for a bistro. The place is classy but casual. Overall an excellent restaurant of its type. Will likely be back."
