"The food is pretty good here, but when you have any problem expect to be treated like dirt. Kitchen mistakes or general problems are treated as if it was your fault.
It really is not worth leaving a restaurant angry so we will not go again."

"I had made a lunch reservation at Rudi's following the recent UNH graduation. In spite of the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, we were seated in the back, right next to the entrance to the bathrooms. The table we were seated at was rather snug for the 4 adults in the party. The waitress was prompt, pleasant, and professional. After giving our order we waited 25 minutes for appetizers to arrive. Lunch did arrive in a more timely fashion but was mixed in quality. Overall a disappointing experience on a special day."

"I travel between Boston and Portland, Maine to visit family, we occasionally pick a place half way between our destination to stop for dnner.
The food and atmosphere was great, jazz music and the dinning area was set up so we were not too close together with other tables.
The extra plus was free parking.

"I'm not usually a brunch fan, but we had brunch at Rudis on Sunday and it was awesome. There was a nice selection of brunch and lunch type items. I had a Tuscan omelet, which I really enjoyed. There were 2 musicians playing light jazz which gave the brunch atmosphere a very classy touch. It's a great choice for brunch and the parking is always a real plus too."

"Rudi's seems to be a good place for pulling up to the bar or a hightop and enjoying some of the well-prepared food. Try to avoid the dining room proper, as the carpets are bit past their prime and the ambiance is lacking. While our cocktails were sharp, our scallop app tasty, and entrees very well prepared, you may be surprised that there does not appear to be any regard to seasonal produce on the menu. Also, our server was super friendly, but a bit casual with his attention to timing."

"On the strength of one visit, my wife and I consider this is one of the most satisfying restaurants we know. The main dining room is handsome and intimate, the acoustics are wonderful, and the food is exceptionally good. Our waitress, Angela, was attentive throughout and extremely helpful when asked for advice. An excellent pianist played in the background. We literally cannot wait to return.
The only caveat is that the lay-out of the establishment is peculiar. A cozy bar, known for some reason as the Market Cafe, opens off of Congress Street. The formal entrance to restaurant is around behind, off the back of the building."

"Great meeting lunchtime meeting spot between Portland and Boston. Lobster roll in a croissant is sinful. Ambiance is quiet - perfect for extended visiting without disruption of noise. Both times I ate here in the last two weeks the wait staff patiently let me and my old friends visit at our own pace - never interrupting or suggesting that it was time to leave."

"Great atmosphere and food. Service also excellent. Salads were among best ever in similar restaurants. Only complaint - swordfish, while tasty was pared with pilaf which made for a rather uninteresting dish to look at. Monk tail special was delicious as well. Very enjoyable overall!"

"Four of us dined at Rudi's Saturday night,and all thought food was outstanding. I had the swordfish loin, and it absolutely was the best swordfish I ever ate. The 2 men had the rack of lamb, which was huge and delicious.Our woman friend had the ribeye and remarked on how good it was. Not cheap, but definitely worth going."

"We had 6pm reservations on the Saturday before Easter. We were the only people in the dining room until almost 7:00. Very quiet and relaxing after the lively place we'd gone the night before. I had broiled scallops (4) with risotto. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious. My husband had the rib eye and rated it a 5. Roasted beet salad and chicken satay appetizers were also very good. Dinner for 2 w/1 cocktail and two apps ran us about $90. Service was good (but it was quite slow when we were there)."

"Another wonderful dining experience at Rudi's and a couple of fabulous new additions to the menu--although I tend to order 'specials' as they are chef's favorites and are never disappointing. Nicole is one of the reasons we come back to Rudi's time and time again for business lunches. She is attentive, friendly and spot on with rcommendations. Erin is the reason we come at night! She's fun, vibrant and welcoming."

"Cozy, warm dining in a the back with the rarity of offering up a parking lot for their customers makes Rudi's one of my favorite spots in Portsmouth. A wonderful place for outstanding food and good dinner music in a competitive market, perfect for special occasions or romantic dinners."

"Went to Rudi's for the Sunday Jazz Brunch. The music was great and the food was very good. We had the special, pan seared trout and poached eggs over corn bread with hollandaise sauce - yummy. The Boody Mary's were great too."

"We dine at Rudi's regularly. Varied menu from burgers to fancy. Food is always good. Great beer and wine selection as well. The Salmon burger is a personal favorite. On this visit, service was slower than usual - it took quite a while for our meals to come. I will write it off to a very busy Friday on Valentines weekend."

"We had a great night there on a Friday night in February, 2013. We started with a drink on a sofa in the Wine Bar and then adjourned to a nice table with great food (salmon, swordfish and risotto entrees), friendly service and relaxing live music in the background. All in all, a great experience that I would highly recommend."

"Great food, friendly staff, nice jazz trio playing near the bar. Rudi's makes an effort to give you a quiet table for dinner if you request one, but if the restaurant is busy it's noisy. Lunch is quieter if that's what you want. Definitely would return though."
