John DeLucie is the Chef Proprietor of Crown, Bill's Food & Drink, and The Lion restaurants in New York City. DeLucie opened Crown in a 1930's mansion steps away from The Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side. Bill's Food & Drink opened in November 2012 in Manhattan’s Midtown, and features hearty American cuisine. The Lion opened in May 2010 and is located in the West Village – it features a menu consistent with the Chef himself; classic American with undeniable Italian influences.
"Service pleasant enough but very slow. Have been here several times and this was the first time service was not good. Could have been subs for Mother's Day."

"Crown serves very good food. Between us we had cote de boeuf, steamed bass and an artichoke starter, good puddings so Crown doesn't need to try so hard to be posh and most certainly doesn't need the unctuous service I hadn't met maitre d'hôtel before so there really was no need to greet like I was his benefactor. That aside, a very enjoyable dinner (particularly icons enjoys the so ily anxious sockless men of the UES trying too hard)."

"Went for family bday on a Saturday night. Great crowd and ambiance. Service was in attentive and slow almost as if we were not there. Made errors on our orders. Food was fine but nothing special although salads were great for apps. Probably would not go back"

"Not very good. I do not recommend Crown. The food isn't that good. Sant Ambroews, Caravaggio and Salumeria Rossi all have better food in the same neighborhood for the same price."

"Crown is a true neighborhood gem. Definitely "clubby" but not in a pretentious, UES way. This restaurant was relaxed with a definite style. Met and seated promptly in the glass garden room, our table was lovely. Food was fabulous and a great place to take out of towners or for a special occasion!"

"The Sunday Night Roast prix fixe dinner (where kids under 12 are free) is a fabulous deal and great way to experience the restaurant. We came early and received a lot of attention from the staff, who were very patient and attentive to my 11 year old. The food was superb and beautifully presented. A great opportunity to introduce a yound child to the fine dining experience."

"A little hint of downtown sensibility comes to the Upper East Side. The rooms are beautifully laid out, the bartenders are "old school" in the best sense of the term, and the food is clean, simply prepared and elegantly presented."

"A beautiful setting and nice and quiet so we could have good conversation with friends. However, the service was unbelievably slow. After half an hour of waiting, we had to flag down our waiter to take our order, and only then did he bring us some bread. He then got my appetizer order wrong so I had to wait even longer for what I had ordered, and he had a bit of an attitude about it. When it finally came, it was delicious. The rest of our meal was pretty tasty and the setting is beautiful, but they need to work on their service."

"For such a lovely setting the food is a downer. If you are in the area, stop and have a cocktail. Enjoy the large bar and take a look at the restaurant...but do not enter. Better food can be found in the neighborhood."

"I wanted to take my wife for a romantic Valentine Day dinner. Saw the mixed reviews, but figured I'd take a chance since I knew the UES townhouse location was a beautiful venue. Am I ever sorry I didn't heed the warnings...
We waited about 40 minutes at the bar for our 9pm reservation. We were seated in a comfortable table in the back, and given the evening's Prix Fix menu. My bay scallop appetizer arrived in a thimble sized dish, with 5 tiny scallops mixed with pomegranate chunks and celery hearts. While nicely prepared I was a bit taken aback by the minuscule portion. Mind you as an Obesity Medicine physician I'm not a big eater.
Next my rack of lamb entree arrived. Imagine my surprise to see two miniature pieces,"

"This is the second time eating at Crown. I am sad to say it was very disappointing. Though the room is elegant and the service is excellent the food is marginal. The food lacks flavor. It seems someone he told them never to add spices to the food and therefore, what you get is bland bland bland. In addition, for what one pays for a main dish, the serving is quite small. Luckily the breads are very tasty. I will say the desserts are excellent and well presented."

"First time here. Service was friendly but haphazard. Beautiful rooms. Brunch Prices seemed high even for the UES - had to order a side of toast $7-8 and then had to remind waiter I had ordered it when the omelet appeared without the requested toast. Another person at our table had to remind waiter about her tea. I hear service is better at dinner and look forward to seeing if that's the case. The two rooms and bar have a nice vibe. Not too loud, although is was a relatively quiet brunch crowd. The piano bar seemed unnecessary and the electronic keyboards seemed out of place with the decor"

"Nice room but pretentious. I had the dry aged steak and it was over cooked (asked for it rare and it was medium rare) and had not been trimmed of grisle. Waiters were nice but over extended or so it seemed to me. Very expensive for the experience."

"My experience at Crown was terrific on all levels. First off was the friendly greeting at the door - no snooty restaurant types here. All the staff was very welcoming. Our food was fabulous, paired with great wine. The decor is smashing, well thought out, and comfortable all at the same time. the whole evening was a multi-sensory feast. Will definitely come back."

"This was my second time dining at Crown and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first time. Crown has become my favorite restaurant in New York - hands down! The food is spectacular, the room is sophisticated, the service is friendly with no attitude. This is fine dining at its very best!"
