"Venue is VERY small. We ended up sitting on a table similar to a picnic table with 2 other couples with us. Almost reminded me of a bed and breakfast setup. BUT, the food was worth putting up with any incovenience and our server was awesome."

"We ordered wine, Tannat, and a ricotta appetizer, both quite lovely. The hubs had sweetbreads which he thought was divine...he would definitely reorder...his test for food success. I had the beef bourguignon and honestly...after 45 years of marriage wherein I have cooked many beef roasts and consider it a personal successful entree...I promptly melted at first bite. So rich, velvety, flavorful, tender, yikes! I was in heaven. Both entrees were generous, my beef was accompanied by mashed potatoes and a side dish of carrots, we loved every bite. We ordered two desserts, the chocolate pavlova and the profiteroles plus a small pot of coffee which were perfection. We enjoyed every aspect of our dinner at LePigeon and will definitely return."

"Hadn't been for a few years, while I was disappointed the cornbread-maple ice cream is no longer on the dessert menu, everything was fantastic. Always impressed at the creativity (ie acorn creeps with buffalo heart filling) and depth of flavor combinations (whipped ricotta appetizer, fava-mint gnocchi). Gabriel deserves the acclaim, bravo."

"The seating is family style and when I say family style, I mean almost interbreeding close. The food was good, but with the money he's making he shouldn't pack people in like freaking chickens in cages. I was with my 84 year old mother and she had to get up three times to let people pass to get to an inner seat. This is definitely not a fine dining experience. But par for the course for Portland restaurants that think comfort, style and good service are for punks. Maybe the chef/owner will learn some class in NY. And hasn't the NW had enough of wild boar, rabbit, venison and whatever the chef shoots in the afternoon? NW cuisine is getting very boring, and is mostly for the dressed down, unshaven inhabitants that don't know better."

"I would have never found Le Pigeon, except that it was right by my motel, and after Googleing nearby restaurants to it, found this exceptional gem!
The staff is very friendly, and the chefs are extremely talented. The wines that were paired with the tasting menu were perfect, and the tasting menu itself was better than I expected!
Worth every penny!"

"It's great to see that this benchmark of creative fine dining still deserves its reputation. With classic French technique applied to an innovative combinations of ingredients, the team creates out-of-this-world dishes. The beef cheeks bourgogne and foie gras profiteroles are staples not to be missed. The rest of the menu rotates with whatever top seasonal ingredients catch the chef's eye. Sommelier Andy Fortgang has put together a wonderful list of wines that complement the dishes, and can deftly match a bottle even if your mains include both halibut and beef. Plus, there are plenty of under $50 wines that will please even the connoiseur."

"The food was outstanding. It couldn't have been better. However, the service was a little pretentious. Our waitress seemed annoyed that we didn't order drinks or starters. We had just come from a wine bar where we had already had both, but she seemed to write us off as just being cheap and paid far more attention to those that ordered more. It also seemed like we were surrounded by couples on their first dates, which put us in between two awkward conversations, since the seating is communal. But overall, it was great and we would definitely return."

"We tried 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts.
Starters
The mussels were a 6/10, the escargot was a 5.5/10, the fois gras carpaccio was a 9/10 and was simply outstanding.
Mains
The pork cutlet was very poor with the cheese pasta like kids foos 3/10. The Beef Cheek Bourgoiun was nothing special 5/10 and the hilariously overpriced single large scollap on rice ($34) was again rather ordinary (5.5/10).
Desserts
The Fois Gras Profiterols were very good 8/10. The Stout Cheescake was good 7/10.
Those average out to 6.1 out of 10.
The wine and service was good so call it 6.5/10.
If it hadn't been for the desserts and the fois gras starter this would have been a massive disappointment.
This is not a stellar restauran"

"Note for couples: All of the seating here is either communal tables or chef's counter. We were not told of this, so it was jarring to make a reservation and find ourselves seated at the same table as a group of five guys. The staff there handled our dismay extremely well and moved us to the chef's counter, but it would have been great to know about this ahead of time. The chef's counter is cool though, fun to watch the food being prepared."

"from the moment we walked into le pigeon, service was impecible. the manager greated us, took our coats and led us to the coziest corner table by the windows. amazing and extensive wine list, with quite the price range. we very much enjoyed the escargot served with a spinach, potato, garlic soup which is poured over tableside. the chorizo stuffed pork loin (pork three ways!) was fantastic as well as the burger cooked to a perfect medium rare and topped with gruyere cheese served with a blue cheese bibb lettuce salad. to finish we enjoyed the creme brule with an orange blossom and rhubarb compote with a great press of stumptown coffee. fantastic all around! many thanks le pigeon!"

"This was our first time experience at this restaurant. Service was excellent. People were friendly. Food was good, but not WOW. Way too salty. We sat at the bar so were able to witness that all dishes were getting equal treatment with salt. I cannot call it a romantic restaurant as the only seating options were communal tables or the bar."

"Great vibe, great service, great wine, but I was quite disappointed in my entree - WAY too salty. Other items my wife and I ordered ranged from good to very good. Foodies I respect have had much better experiences than I did at Le Pigeon, so I'm willing to go back and see if it was an off night or poor selections on my part."

"Rather dissapointed with the food and service at LePigeon last Friday night. I found the service to be unwarm. We ordered the fish for one main and it was great but the Chicken main had an overwhelming taste of anchovies which strongly overpowered any taste of chicken. Im hoping it was a one off as I had heard nothing but great things about this restaurant."

"I had an amazing experience. The food was amazing, the service was prompt and friendly, and we even got free truffles since we didn't order dessert. Even better, we went to Le Pigeon for dinner on Easter and our server brought us homemade peeps! I highly recommend this restaurant for an all around great dining experience."

"The food was overly salty. We got an appetizer and 3 entrees and everything was too salty. I downed 3 cups of water during the course of the meal. Also, service was pretty slow even though the restaurant is tiny.
Everyone raves about this place but nothing stands out to me."

"Hadn't been in too long. It was nice to be back in that cozy room. Mostly everything was just delicious (especially those mussels), and as inventive and playful as ever. The dessert was a little disappointing b/c it feels like it hasn't changed in a long time. But just a little. Overall the meal was an absolute delight."

"Had the 5 course tasting menu and the dishes were as good as I've ever had, as good as Jardiniere and Cyrus. IMO, the best dishes were the mussels, escargot and dessert, foie gras ice cream? Service was great, the wine list was composed very well, I had the Rioja and the pinot by the glass, both very, very good. Next time I'm in Portland, I'll be back."

"This is my very favorite restaurant in Portland. I had not been in over a year and was wondering if the quality had suffered any over time. This was not the case. Everything, everything, everything was spectacular. I would warn people though.... This is a very small and intimate restaurant so don't go if you don't like getting squeezed in and sharing tables with other people."

"The owner earned the James Beard award and I wanted to check out the restaurant to find out about the buzz with this restaurant.
