"We went to The Mooring for a graduation lunch on a sunday afternoon. The place was extremely well-staffed and we never had to wait for anything, which was great. They bring out fresh rolls and butter at the beginning which were also great. We started with the "donuts" stuffed with lobster, shrimp and crab and had nothing but rave reviews. The clam chowder wasn't the best i've ever had, but it was still delicious. Overall everyone had a great time and its overlooking the water which can't be beat. Would definitely come here again."

"OK beer selection. Rude waitress. Surprisingly limited menu.
We don't mind spending $$, but you would expect this restaurant to be a bit more than it is. While you can't beat the location, view, and ambience, the service was terrible. My wife and I heave eaten here many times over the years and were shocked at our experience this time.
The menu featured far fewer seafood options than we expected. And Atlantic Salmon, really? (assume Farm Raised). We both wanted nice fish dishes, but my wife ended up with the Gnocchi "entree" that was more of an appetizer. (one of the smallest $16 portions I have ever seen). I ended up ordering 2 apps that were disappointing.
Unfortunately one of our favorite restaurants is off the list."

"We had friends from out of town and were seated on the deck with the plastic sheets pulled down as it was cool evening which took the ambiance of the restaurant to zero. Our server was excellent and the food was very good. One disappointment was the beet salad which was too much arugula and rock hard yellow beets, it wasn't good. This is something we would never order again. The "bag of donuts" seafood appetizer was very good and the sauce was very, very good. The entrees were excellent and well served. The wait time was long and the waitress came to the table and said the kitchen was slow because of the big crowd. I like that! She was upfront and told us we would have our meals shortly. Overall, it was a fun, delicious meal!"

"My family surprised me with dinner at the Mooring restaurant this past weekend. I had been there once before and loved the location and the food. When making the reservation, they asked for a table by the windows overlooking the water, and we happily were accommodated. The service was excellent, the waiter was attentive, and the meals were brought in a timely manner. Everyone was happy and for me that's a sign of a good restaurant. I know we'll be back to the Mooring on our next visit to Newport."

"We enjoyed lunch on the screened in patio. It was windy and a tad cool outside, but they had heaters. The food was great. We tried the lobster-beef slider appetizer. It was unusual with an interestin taste. I would order it again. We also had the fish and chips - wonderful. Husband had the sole and thought it was outstanding. We were there with two small kids and the waitstaff was very good with them. It is a beautiful place and could be more formal in the evening."

"This was our first time to the Mooring. We heard great reviews from friends and family who have been there. Wine was great, staff were excellent as was the food and the ambiance. The only minor negative was we made a reservation online which was confirmed when we walked in. However we had to wait 30 mins past our reservation time for a table. For us it was not a problem as we were on vacation time. We would defiantly return."

"Thank you for fulfilling my special request, we asked to be seated on the patio with a view of the water and boats. When we arrived the hostess welcomed us and knew who we were, our table was waiting and it was exactly what we requested. The waitress was very friendly and made suggestions to the menu that were perfect. We live in Miami and will revisit . Btw our 8 month old was greated with open arms.

"Excellent experience. When I made reservations I asked for a table with a view because it was my boyfriend's bday. They set us up with a great view of the water and we watched the sun set while we ate. Everything was delicious. We started with oysters from the raw bar-very fresh. Then we had the tuna tartar which was perfect. my entree was thr atlantic salmon...which was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and had great flavor. My date had the scallops and they were gorgeous. Paired nicely with chorizo. For dessert he was brought the bavarian with a candle for his bday. I had the pistachio gelato and it was creamy and delicious. Overall, we had a great experience!"

"This place was simply wonderful. We came down to Newport for a single night on a last minute whim and thus were concerned about getting dinner reservations someplace good. We took an earlier-than-normal timeslot of 5:30 PM, and afterwards were psyched that we did. My wife and I loved our meals (I had the flank steak special, and she had the gluten-free lobster, scallop and shrimp dish), though my wife's dish could have used a bit more seasoning. My 8 yr old son, the fish lover that he is, had one of the appetizers to give him his fix of lobster, crab, and shrimp without us having to break the bank to do so. We had a bottle of white wine, which was a delight. The subsequent wine by the glass was less satisfying."

"I went with a party of 5 during restaurant week. It was extremely loud. In hindsight it would have been better to order from the regular menu. The offerings for restaurant week were terrible. The soup was also not hot enough. The one good thing was the service but I left feeling very ripped off. Not a good value"

"I am a Newporter and former professional cook. It was my birthday and Restaurant Week so we chose the Mooring because of the Restaurant Week menu which offered many choices. From walking in the front door to the end of our meal, everything was first class and excellent. We will be back again to try some of the items on the regular menu. I was impressed with the service. It is obvious that servers are trained well and the cooks in the kitchen love food. That is what creates a memorable meal for me. I loved my meal (raw bar, hangar steak & creme brulee) because it was healthy and delicious rather than huge and heavily sauced. The whole environment is comfortable and elegant, the view to die for as well. Thanks."

"With our reservation, we asked for a special table for our anniversary, which we got after waiting 20 minutes. However, our server was not told it was our anniversary. In fact the major flaw of the night was the lack of personal service that was missing from a restaurant with such a high price point. The staff felt robotic and lacked any warmth.

(Our $12 pork belly appetizer was tasty, but hadn't been cooked with half the care necessary to request such a price.)We will try again, ONCE more... for what was close to $200... "We had been for Easter lunch in 2012 and loved it, so we decided to try it again. On site parking is a plus. No special menu this time, which was disappointing. However, the view was great, the service was excellent and the food was good. The steak choice was excellent. The lobster eggs benedict was good; the lobster was a bit tough. We started with oysters on the half shell - very good. The restaurant has a lively bar area, but the noice did not disturb. Overall, it was very good and we would return."

"With so many restaurants to choose from in Newport, we chose Moorings from all the good reviews, menu choices and views. It did not disappoint. The service was excellent and friendly. We chose the much talked about "doughnuts" and the tuna tartar as appetizers - loved them both!! We were tempted to get another order of the doughnuts to take with us!
We both ordered salmon (mine from the gluetin free menu). Both were excellent. Would definitely go back next time in Newport."

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Mooring this past Saturday evening. We were extremely happy to find our reservation resulted in our having a table right near the back door with the best view of the sunset behind the marina. We enjoyed appetizers of cheerystone clams and clam chowder (both excellent) Our main dishes were cooked to perfection, my wife's dish consisted of a seafood combo (lobster, salmon, shrimp) was excellent (great balancing act Chef) as was my choice of the Mahi Mahi. The wine was delightful, the service was also top notch, our waitress was prompt and checked on us a few times. Hope any readers have a similar experience."

"It was our second dining experience at the moorning - DH had the surf and turf and loved it; I opted for a half dozen oysters, the pork belly (so fatty but so tasty!).
I had the Mooring Painkiller - a little to creamy for my taste (kind of like coconut pie w/ rum in a glass - but it had a major kick.
My only mistake was the entree, where I went on the cheap for a seafood wrap. So wholly disappointing, I could have done it myself and the seafood was buried in the sauce/lettuce within it. For the price I would have hoped for more."
