"Our first time at Cottage was a wonderful dining experience. The cocktails are some of the best I've had anywhere, and the food is out of this world. The must-haves are the Ahi Nachos and the Granola-Crusted Mahi-Mahi. Also, for such a hip place in an upscale neighborhood with innovative dishes composed of top-tier ingredients, this restaurant is actually pretty affordable. This is a restaurant that I can't wait to return to."

"On a very busy Saturday night, our party of four was seated promptly (with a reservation, of course) at a comfortable booth. The overall noise level was energetic, but the glass panels around the booth created a nice space for reasonable conversation. The server was friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and all the dishes were superb. I especially loved the crispy goat cheese polenta and the chili dusted grilled shrimp. Only suggestion from the table was that the apple crisp include real cranberries rather than dried ones. Will definitely return!"

"This place is very vibrant, and the food is so innovative. We started with the ahi nachos and the eggplant fries, and then we moved on to the eggplant-crusted mahi mahi and the duck. We loved all of it.
Our waitress was very sweet, knowledgeable, and honest, but we had a lot of trouble getting her attention and would go for long periods of time without hearing from her. We did come at 8 on a Saturday, though, and would hope that this would not happen during less busy hours.
They also have a memorable cocktails list, which I would recommend to anyone."

"Atmosphere was not what I expected from the name and the description, they had several large parties who were done eating but congregated right by our table for 30 min loud discussion before leaving. My dish promised to be special by the description, was rather disappointing, specially given the price. I wont go back there nor will I recommend it to anyone, sadly."

"It's my 3rd time here, and I've never been let down, not one bit. Great food, california-style gourmet that is upscaled but not over priced. The menu is very extensive and I want to try everything on it, every single time. Extensive drink menu as well including wines and beers. Clean, fresh feeling throughout the decor and in regards to the dishes themselves. Staff are very friendly. Located in a fun, clean, upbeat area in Chestnut Hill/Newton. The new "Street" walking retail area is fantastic."

"The Cottage is incredibly kid-friendly and yet has a strong following from crowds without kids as well. We've gone at all different times for brunch, lunch and dinner and The Cottage always seems to be doing a pretty good business. We have rarely been disappointed with our food and the service is one of the friendliest in around. This place was our Friday night family dinner staple for a long time."

"Just went to lunch at the Collage in Chestnut Hill after not being there for a while. Have had the Tuna salad nicoise in the past and liked it. This time it was very mediocre -- just lettuce, green beans, and some sliced tuna. Strangely there were cold fried potatoes instead of boiled new potatoes -- like eating leftovers from the day before and very unappealing.
Atmosphere is pleasant, especially for lunch, and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. Too bad the food appears to have gone downhill."

"I would have given the Cottage a higher rating but they are horrible about honoring reservation times. We were seated about a half hour after our reservation and only because we complained. This has happened to us at both the Chestnut Hill and Wellesley locations. We had very good food and table service but the host and manager were indifferent to us when we thought we should be seated close to the time of our reservation."

"Loved the food but the noise level (bad acoustics) made dinner conversation very difficult. My throat hurt at the end of dinner from yelling across the table. Yes, I am an older person whose hearing is not what it used to be but there were a lot of older diners there on a Saturday evening. In fact, I would not describe this as a "young person" scene. The noise was from conversations and dining utensils, not from loud music."

"Our dinner was very inconsistent. My fish tacos were tasty and a generous portion. My husband ordered veggie enchiladas, which lacked flavor and were so small with a small mound of salad on the side that we almost laughed when the dish was served. We have eaten here many times and usually order the seared tuna nicoise salad -- also very inconsistent. Sometimes it's a generous (dinner) portion and other times it looks like an afterthought of the kitchen. Sometimes flavorful and sometimes not."

"Some stand outs for me is the service and food. This restaurant welcomes children of any age. The service was timely, professional and seamless. You could see and sense their team work! The food is always yummy. The menu has much to offer and the ambiance is light and airy. Although there was a fair amount of noise it was not too noisy-just festive. There is a room out back where they can accommodate a group. I love the bar as you walk into the restaurant. It is a good size with a few high tops for dining. It is large enough to provide a welcoming experience to those who are looking for the bar. I have been to this location for lunch and dinner with family and also with friends and their babies. Always a terrific time and yummy experience!"

"My husband and I ate here for the first time Saturday night. The ambiance is great however I wish I could say the same about the food. My husband and I ordered the calamari for the appetizer and it was awful! We both felt it was too salty and the calamari itself consisted of mostly batter. Our waitress was really nice though and took it off the bill for us with no problem. Our entrees were just okay. Having both worked in the restaurant industry for years before starting our careers, we both were disappointed with the food quality for the price of the dishes. We will not return."

"the staff was very nice and our waiter efficient. I got the 'signature' fish tacos which were good, but not that outstanding for the dish that 'put the restaurant on the map'. The warm goat cheese salad was tasty. Wine by the glass a bit pricey."

"The Cottage Chestnut Hill continues to be my favorite lunch venue in the area. The food is excellent -- everything tastes fresh and clean, and is beautifully presented -- and there's something for everyone, whether appetites are small (soup, salads, sandwiches, quiche) or large. The ambiance is grown up and relaxing, with well-spaced tables and low noise levels, and the service surprisingly professional, given the suburban location and youthfulness of the staff."

"This was my second visit to The Cottage. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, excellent service. This visit was for lunch, and I had one of their Big Salads called New World Chicken. Scrumptious. There were three of us, and we shared a chocolate cake for desert. It came with a side dish of ice cream and another side of chocolate fudge. Heaven. Highly recommended."

"The kitchen was backed up, either our waiter forgot to place our app order or the kitchen lost it, it took a very long time for it to come out. Our main course was prepared and ready prior to our app. Everything was relatively slow this night, starting at the bar when we first arrived. I've been here before, the servers weren't at the top of their game this night. Lets hope this is a one time thing since the food was very good."

"Not my best visit to The Cottage. Music was too loud; it took several complaints from customer before management finally turned it down. You actually had difficulty conducting a conversation. Our lunch orders were wrong; the usually tasty burger was greasy and overcooked. The very attentive waitress was solicitous and apologetic. The wait was also too long for a burger and a salad. Dessert, however, was flawless-nothing is better than the chocolate souffle cake."

"SO Yummy!! We sat at the bar to watch the NCAA basketball tournament and the bartender was wonderful. So willing to help us make changes if we needed and really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The food here is so good. I have been here for brunch lunch and dinner and have always had an amazing time!"
