Laura grew up in Wellesley and is the third generation in her family to have a business in town. "I keep going back because the food is phenominal, and they have a fabulous gluten free menu. The quinoa salad is a particular favorite of mine. It is great for date night or with the kids, I go dressy or casual too. I love the ambiance- a nice mix of beachy California & Nantucket. I have been 3 times during the past 3 weeks alone! The only thing that disappoints me is that I do not like their cocktails. Not sure why really, but the menu items always look appealing but never hit the right notes for me. I stick with wine now when dining there."

"My feelings for this restaurant is one of ambivalence. The food & the setting are just okay, but service was most excellent! My husband & I started by sharing an app of Ahi tuna nachos. It sounded interesting on paper, in actuality, there was no umph to it...bland & boring to be honest. He enjoyed his sweet potato crusted cod, while my granola crusted mahi mahi was overwhelmed by too much granola & basmati rice. We shared a bottle of delicious Cabernet from Napa Valley without hurting the bank. We weren't crazy w/ the outdoor mall setting, but I guess that can't be helped. The host actually read our reservation & noticed it was our 1st time visit. He made a point of visiting us later to check up on us. Wow! Kenisha, our server, was awesome!"

"We celebrated a college graduation dinner at the Cottage and everyone raved. The waiter was entertaining and informative. The service was perfect. The signature drinks and beer selection was outstanding. Coming from the Maine coast -- we loved the decor and atmosphere. We highly recommend to everyone for any occastion."

"I brought an elderly woman with me and from the time we entered till the time we left, we were treated like royalty!! She kept commenting on how sweet our server was and how nice everything was. I will continue to dine here as the food was absolutely delicious! Prices I thought were reasonable for the quality of food and ambiance! Quite the Mother's Day experience!!

p.s. Noise level was between 3-4. The computer wouldn't allow me to change it at the top of this review. :) But it made it fun!! Lot's of Happy buzz in the atmosphere!!"

"Maybe it was the cool and somewhat ambivalent greeting by the host or the somewhat tardy service/attendance by our waiter, or the lacklustre started salad but this time around at The Cottage was not great. The waiter was very congenial and enthusiastic but it just seemed like a while to get our initial drinks. Never a return to offer to pour from the bottle and never a check back on whether everything was ok with the food. The entree was good but just not extraordinary. The fish I had seemed a little too well done and the broth it was cooked in just flooded the accompanying mashed potato which made the latter just a submerged sloppy concoction. Overall, compared to my first visit to The Cottage, this visit was disappointing."

"This is a great family friendly restaurant.We took our 4 grandaighters here to celebrate their ballet recitals.Our waiter was great ,especially with the children. My short ribs were very tender and tasty.The girls loved their Mac and cheese and chicken fingers and cheeseburger sliders.The regular hamburger is very generous.It is a fun place to go."

"I made a reservation on open table, and by accident, made a reservation for their restaurant in Wellesley. There were 4 workers standing at the front desk. The woman could not find my reservation in the system . She showed me my history of previous reservations which showed I have been a good customer. The manager got involved, and confirmed I had a reservation in Wellesley.
He made no attempt to make accommodations in the Newton location, when I had a child with me who was hungry. They were all very cold in handling the situation. Glad they are doing so well they can afford to turn away a customer. I don't think I'll be going back again. There are many others to choose from."

"We have always liked this place but it was VERY noisy on Friday for lunch. Ratio of women to men was about 10:1. Would ordinarily be ok, but the service was spotty - too distracted - and the food came at different times. Vegetarian salad was only so-so - hastily prepared and light on ingredients. Funny, because the place has always been so reliable."

"We had a small gathering for a business lunch -- eight people. We were seated in the back room, which was perfect. The 'hosts' were from out of town and were very complimentary of the space, ambiance, food and wait staff. The 'two Matt's" were our waiters and were very attentive and good.

"Outstanding food. When we walked in (7:30 pm on a Thursday), shocked to see tons of families with young children and disappointed. Very busy bar scene and turn over of tables. We waited a bit for our table (but only booked a half an hour before). Then it all turned around. Our service was superb and we took our server's suggestions which were outstanding for food. This was the best meal we have eaten out in a long time. Nice touch in delivering us our dessert for our anniversary. We strongly recommended this to several other people already and will return!"

"we had heard a lot about this restaurant, so finally made the journey to try it. the menu has a wonderful array of choices-far from the usual fare! -so that was the main attraction. Unfortunately, although the food was fine, our appetizer arrived within minutes of ordering it, as did the main course (virtually seconds after the appetizer was cleared). The sense of a production line filling orders rather than preparing food was difficult to dismiss. It was compounded/highlighted by the delay in filling drink orders which arrived mid-dinner. The restaurant is very large, and probably needs to work this way to serve the families and groups that congregate in teh lovely space. I'm glad we tried it, but am unlikely to make the trip again."

We always ask for Jake W. who makes us feel at home, but Jonathan, Mattie, & Adrianna always check in--making you want to be a regular. With Zack managing & Brianna at the bar, it is sure to be a good night.
The sweet potato encrusted cod was spot on & my table mates enjoyed the calamari , lamb burger, swordfish, & fish tacos. Of course the ahi tuna nachos are required & to die for.
The bar: love the crafty beer selections and the white sangria-- so many places forget the white wine drinkers. The Stone porter: yum! Thanks for a fun evening!"

"My sister was visiting from out of town and we wanted a special place to celebrate our birthdays. I had originally booked Bergamot in Somerville but after looking at the menu, realized that neither my husband nor son would be happy with the esoteric offerings. The Cottage had a nice blend of unusual dishes and mainstream items that would allow everyone to have a wonderful night. Plus the parking is fantastic, a grocery store parking lot adjacent to the restaurant! The eggplant fries were excellent."

"I have been here before, several times. The food is always excellent. This time I asked for a table that was away from the noise, if possible, because I am hard of hearing and was meeting with friends. We got there and they attempted to put 3 of us at an oversized table, right beside the bar which was VERY loud. Thankfully, they had a smaller table in their side room. (in fact, they had many tables) Once moved, everything was fine although I was disappointed that my request was completely ingnored and I was forced to say something. I will return and would recommend this restaurant, but I will call to confirm my request before arrival to avoid feeling embarrassed."

"Great food with lots of choices for the whole family. A little on the expensive side for a regular family outing, but not bad considering how good the food was. Loved the bright space. Easy to find and park. I would definitely go back again. Minor quibble with the service -- our waiter came over to ask how the food was (too soon for us to have tried it). It turned out that my lobster BLT was missing the "B" (bacon). And I couldn't get his attention. Eventually I flagged down a different waiter, who said he'd get our waiter. Still no waiter.... Finally the second waiter brought me some bacon."

"Brunch was good but not great. The egg sandwich was nice and different in a good way and the cappuccino was well made with a good thick foam and not burned or over-milked. The Mahi tacos were unfortunately not so good. The fish was "fishy" and the sauce was bland. We've eaten quite a few Mahi tacos over the years and these are at the bottom of the list. Kind of disappointing for such a nice place."

"The menu is always interesting with some interesting options. However, the dinner salads were disappointing. For $18 you get a lot of greens and very little of the meat, chicken or fish on top. Definitely not worth it as a dinner option. The best bet and best values will always be the appetizers (try one as your dinner) and the burgers.
Service is always very good. The restaurant management is great when it comes to special requests. The noise level varies."

When we mentioned to our waiter, Tommy, that we only wanted a simple dessert of a cookie or two instead of the very inviting dessert offerings on the menu --- Tommy agreed that this option should be available so he found someone to run to the market about 150 yards away to surprise us with a cookie plate which arrived with our coffee!
