"My wife and I drove 50 miles to spend the night in the City for our 5 year anniversary. When I made the reservations at Roka Akor, I added that it was our 5 year anniversary and they sent us a surprise dessert with "Happy 5th Anniversary" written on the plate. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was excellent. We will definitely make the trip back to the city for Roka Akor!"

"This restaurant was just not what we expected. Friends told us that this was going to be like "Asian tapas" and we would enjoy it. I took my girlfriend here for her 42nd birthday and while it may be downtown chic and trendy we were both disappointed. First, the ambiance....it was very loud with music and crowd noise that almost made it impossible to have any type of conversation. Then the table setup is more like bar tables throughout the restaurant, not restaurant style seating. We could have gotten past the first two negatives, if the food was decent, but it was not. It was not that it was bad, it was just average to poor and for the prices they charge you can do so much better in so many other restaurants in downtown Chicago."

"The food was good but the service was extremely poor. Until we expressed our concern, we received very limited attention. We received our 1st app before our wine, and our entrees were delivered 15 minutes apart...not the way to enjoy an aniversary dinner.
This is my 3rd visit, first for dinner, and first time I have been disappointed. Overall the food is very good, but at this price point everything should be exceptional."

"I absolutely cannot say enough about Roka Akor!!! Stating that the food and service were phenomenal is an understatement. Brian our server was extremely knowledgeable about the entire drink and food menu. He perfectly paired out cocktails with each of the 7 courses. "Creative and dishes with full flavor! We had the butterfish appetizer, the scallops, the lime/chili fried squid, some Maki rolls, the spicy cod, and the crispy brussel sprouts. All great, but the brussel sprouts were absolutely divine. A bit of an indulgence at $135 for 2 people (NOT including tax & tip) but $35 of that was from the bar (2 cocktails & 2 beers). Attentive service - the server took control of the order of the dishes. It was our anniversary, and we indicated so on our reservation, and they gave us a nice table by the window and a complemetary green tea mousse dessert, that was tasty and different. I would seriously go back just for the brussel sprouts!"

"I went out with a group of 7 women for a girls' night and it was perfect! The chef even sent two sets of rolls to our table, compliments of him--nice touch! "We went here for our 12 year anniversary not knowing anything about the place and ended up having one of the best experiences we could imagine. "We've been here three times, the first was a dinner with my husband alone during the Summer on a weeknight. The clientele seemed to be mostly the after-work crowd. We had great service and the special tasting menu. Our server did a wine and sake pairing that was really spectacular and gave us a wide range of different sakes. For my birthday, I planned a large dinner at the Chef's table on a Saturday night. The service was not as good but the restaurant was extremely busy and my guests did not seem to mind. The food, again, was excellent and everyone, even the unadventurous enjoyed their meals. The third time we brought our children and had the special Easter Tasting."

"It was a quiet night. Everything was slow, including food service. It took us 2.5 hour to wrap up the dinner, very disappointing dinner experience! Lamb chop was burnt, fish was not what's promised in menu, and manager was not happy to learn the complaint from us."

"Located in one of the most competitive areas in Chicago, this restaurant not only stacks up against the other restaurants nearby, it exceeded expectations at every level. One of the best dining experiences we have had in years. The high quality and diversified food selection is complemented by an attractive Saki and wine-by-the-glass selection. Roka Akor also provides wonderful service in an area in the city that is lacking it many times."

"Very pretty restaurant. Our party of 9 was large so we were seated in a secluded area, which was nice for talking although we then missed out on all the scene and people watching which was one of the reasons we chose Roka. It may have just been poor service at the bar, but it trickled down to the server being not great. Forgotten drinks, specialty drinks that no one liked, flat soda water, slow service. The food presentation was nice but nothing was great. The filet and butterfish were pretty good, and we liked the banana dessert. Our bill was pricey, so if I were to spend that again, I'd definitely go elsewhere."

"Dined during restaurant week. Having done restaurant week for the past few years I've come to expect an unimaginative menu, small portions, etc. Boy was I wrong. Every item was fantastic! The bass was our favorite. Can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu. The bar scene also looked like it was worth checking out."
