The Ranche Restaurant
We welcome you to The Ranche Restaurant. Located in south Calgary and surrounded by picturesque Fish Creek provincial park, The Ranche Restaurant is situated in a beautifully restored 19th century ranch house built by William Roper Hull. Our wonderful location is complemented by Chef Thomas Neukom's celebrated "Alberta Rocky Mountain" cuisine. His offerings feature locally raised meats, game and vegetables from farmers and producers who share his vision for sustainable high quality and close to home cuisine. To augment Chef Neukom's Canadian focused cuisine, The Ranche provides a variety of wine from some of the world's top producers. Our passion extends to many regions of the world, as we have sought to find some of the best producers from Italy, France, Australia, North America and South America.

"The food was great, amazing ambiance, located in beautiful fish creek park but the service when we were there was terrible. I think our waitress was either having a bad day or overworked but it really took away from the overall experience because we were there for a special occasion and she was very unpleasant."

"For me a brunch equal buffet. You have a variety of choice that you can choose from. Here it was a breakfast or a dinner. I was a little bit disappointed. But the food was great. My chicken confit sandwich was fantastic and my wife ham benedicts were perfect. For the Mother's day the restaurant didn't do anything special.

"I enjoyed the location, food service of our waitress ... the only concern I had was that the noise level was high. We were located in the room to the right when entering the Ranche, character of the Ranche was wonderful but the echo sound was high and it was difficult to carry on a conversation with my guest on occasion."

"The Ranche came to mind as a place for a special romantic dinner and it did not disappoint.
The entire evening was well look after by attentive staff, with just the right amount of attention and being left alone.
The starters were excellent with just enough to get the taste buds going, not too much food to overwhelm.
Mains selected were scallops in risotto and the braised wild boar shoulder; both exceptionally well cooked and extremely tasty.
The wine paired with the meal - from starters onwards - was an excellent choice offered up by the staff.
The meal was rounded off with dessert and the evening lingered on as the staff were happy to provide an environment where we could relax and carry on chatting."

"Another great experience at the Ranche. Wonderful appetisers, including a game tartar, and very tasty mains. The pot au feu was wonderful. The cheese selection was high quality with excellent variety of Canadian and international cheeses.
The restaurant decor emphasises stone and wood, and the overall ambiance is welcoming. When we arrived there were only a few occupied tables, but as the evening went on it became quite busy and noisy.
Our server was prompt, courteous and knowledgable, well with the tip."

"The Ranche has quite a menu. We all really enjoyed our food. We found the restaurant was a little less than we expected. There is a beautiful room with a front window. Even though we made a reservation well in advance, we were seated near the bar beside a very large group. That room has wooden floors, wooden chairs and is a little less than comfortable. The service was excellent. Our mains were very nice, especially the scallops. We would have been happier with more appetizers we could share. We did feel a little bit rushed, but part of that was the uncomfortable chairs and stark room."

"The location of the Ranche is just beautiful. My husband and I had a nice table near the the fireplace which was great since it was windy and snowy. The food was good but not great. The descriptions on the menu get your taste buds rather excited as you wait in anticipation for whats about to come. Then the food arrives and it just doesn't have the "wow" factor that we were hoping for. The food was still good but not outstanding. I'm not sure what our server's name was but he was excellent. Very friendly, always smiling and he was very helpful with the menu and any questions we had. We will definitely give The Ranche another try."

"The Ranche is a bit of a hidden gem, tucked away as it is at the end of Bow Bottom Trail. Selfishly, I sometimes wish it wouldn't get "discovered" and be descended upon by crowds, but at the same time how could it not. The setting is to die for and the food is excellent. A winning combination."

"We always enjoy our time at The Ranche. The staff are very attentive and accomodating. The food, of course, is devine. I tried the Pressed House Made Bacon and Rabbit. Loved the presentation of the Buttermilk Dressing. Still can't figure out how they did that. The Caribou was done perfectly. Just melted in my mouth. My husband had Seafood Bisque and then Pan Seared Sable Fish. Not a drop was left on either plate.
Keep up the amazing work ! It's nice to have such a little gem in our town.

"We celebrated my parents 59th anniversary there on Friday night and it was an absolute wonderful time. We have been in the city for many years and this was our first adventure to the the Ranche House. But I must say it will not be our last and we will recommend to all. Service was not amazing in the beginning, however it appeared that the restaurant was understaffed and the staff that was there were running around (bartending, waiting tables, etc.). "Went for brunch on Sunday. Came upon this beautiful looking house in the middle of Fish Creek Park which from the outside, you would never guess was a restaurant. Upon entering the front door though, you are greeted by someone looking out for you just down the hallway, guiding you to the lovely large dining room, full of wooden tables, a huge roaring fireplace against the far wall and buffalo head above the mantle. The wood laden room is very inviting. My friend and I started our birthday brunch with mimosas to toast. We each had eggs benedict, both traditional style with ham and salmon. Comes with roasted potatoes and grapes. It was a delightful way to spend a sunny Sunday morning."

"One of the best meals we've had in some time. The fettuccini carbonara appetizer was almost sinful. The Pot au Feu was great, as was the Heritage Chicken Supreme (perhaps coloured by the Pinot we had :) I would also highly recommend the selection of cheeses (dessert). Service was just right. Highly recommended."

"We had made dinner reservations for a Friday evening at 7pm. The restaurant wasn't very busy considering it was a Friday. This was nice though because the service was excellent. The wine selection was great and the food was excellent. Not sure if this would be the best place to take a vegetarian friend, much of the menu is focused on meat. Food was really tender and melt in your mouth. I would definitely recommend trying this place out at least once. Nice place for a rustic romantic dinner by the fire."

"We are very pleased with teh food service and ambience of the Ranche. It was so nice to enjoy ease of parking, location in Fish Creek, no wait, friendly staff, lovely dining room, upbeat atmosphere - not noisy but healthy background noise indicating everyone's enjoying the upscale dining in a relaxed setting with great food"

"This was such a nice experience, the food was excellent and the service was just as we like it! Not stuffy but still classy!
Our waiter was humorous and attentive, helpful but did not hover, pleasant and genuine.
The menu choices were all Canadian and as such if Ilived in Calgary this is where I would bring international guests."

"Like everything about the Ranche and that is why I continue to dine there. But if there is one constructive piece of criticism that I may offer its that some of the menu items are not complete! What I mean by this is that, for example, I had the shoulder of Boar Friday night and when it came, it had no carbohydrates on the plate! Like it had a glazed sauce and some simple carbs around it (apple) for presentation, but it would've been superb and much more enjoyable with 2 small dumplings, garlic mashed potatoes or even some rice as a side!!"

"My expectations were a lot higher than what I experienced. I was shocked after hearing such amazing things about this place. Asked for a quiet table in reservation request but seated at island table surrounded by groups. Charcuterie appie served with dinner rolls but should have come with a cracker or flatbread or something. Server was not very helpful with menu or wine list and when asked questions did not take time to answer. Red wine ordered to pair with meal was brought out right away (before finishing champagne or appie). Ordered Caribou which was very gamey - though waitress said it was only a little gamey. More knowledgable server may have helped to choose better. Very disapointed overall."

"We specialize in very high end corporate incentive groups. Depending on the size of our group, we would normally do a restaurant buy out. Our server was excellent. If everyone is trained to his levels....our clients would really enjoy this. The food was also excellent."

"My friend and I had a wonderful evening of food, wine and conversation. The ambiance was the most striking feature. I loved that our conversation was not competing with typical restaurant noise. We both ordered the rib eye steak. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare) although there was a bit of grizzle in the meat. Loved the mashed potatoes!! Definitely a place to go for special occasions!! I can't wait for summer months and being able to get out on to the porch. Now THAT will be lovely!!"
