"I usually eat at the cafe 21 on Adams Ave, but this Sat I was went with friends to a play at the Civic Ctr and chose to eat at the Downtown location. I wasnt at all disappointed. The food selection was wonderful. My friends and I enjoyed it tremendously. There was enough of a selection for everyone and no one was disappointed in their meals. We had a selection of meats, vegetarian dishes and appetizers. All very yummmy. BTW---The portebello mushroom fires are to die for."

"Delicious sangrias, great happy hour deal on drinks. Tapas are only $5, but are very small. Spinach crepe was delicious. So was squash blossom pizza. One of us liked vegan saute and the other thought it had too much curry. Fun, tasty, lively restaurant overall - one of the best restaurants in the Gaslamp."

"Service was horrible, the host finally asked us if we had even been waited on before our server even noticed. Food was good and atmosphere was nice. Great location downtown. Would come back but need to focus a little more on customer service..."A little goes a long way" and im not that hard to please!"

"This was our third visit to Cafe 21. We went for dinner with my sister and her family who had come down to visit us from the east coast. All of us loved the food. I was a little disappointed that they were out of my favorite avocado chips and also the fondue. Apart from that, we had a great time together. The food here is excellent!Keep up the great work."

"We happened upon Café 21 over a year ago and were so delighted we come back each time we visit San Diego. The menu is always changing and very fresh, drinks creative and plentiful and the wait staff energetic and very knowledgeable! We usually order a large supply of their starters and small bites and share that for dinner. Perfect evening always!"

"The Staff was AMAZING. Such a great experience. We were here with a group of 12 and they could not have paid enough attention to us, were so nice and courteous, and so accommodating! They were amazing and the food was beyond delicious. I recommend the Tiramisu pancakes!!!"

"We were a bit disappointed at the food and sangria. We tried several glasses of sangria and found them very in-inspired. They just tasted like cheap red wine. Our dish of the Heirloom Tomato Salad was quite good. But the flatbread was badly under cooked. The middle was a soggy mess."

"This place was easy to find, had great food and very friendly and courteous service. The server got intimately involved in the selection process when we questioned her about what she'd order if she were us. She gave good recommendations and reasons for why she'd choose what she suggested. Everything was high quality and tasty. Very happy I chose this place. Would definitely recommend."

"Their stuffed french toast didn't have much flavor. The sangria flight was ok. Their pear pineapple sangria was the best. Was not impressed with any San Diego restaurants. I am going to all chain restaurants next time I visit San Diego."

"Loved the menu. Loved the Sangria. And while all of that was lovely, the think my guests and I are still raving about is the wonderful service. Everyone was so lovely and helpful that it made the evening a delight!"

"I was traveling for work and had dinner here on St. Patrick's Day. The waitstaff is very competent and professional. I had the cauliflower gratin, which is quite a large dish for 1 person, but good. I also had the scallops. The curry sauce with it was excellent. It also comes with mashed potatoes, which are good, but very filling. If they put the scallops on a vegetable, like the the cauliflower, that would be amazing."

"Super sangria (6 kinds), extremely flavorful and delicious food, very warm service, great wine by the glass and cocktail list. Chairs could be more comfortable. Don't know why it took me so long to try this place after recommendations from friends - it may be the best moderately priced restaurant in the Gaslamp. We can't wait to come back to try more things from the menu."

"My wife and I were in from out of town. This place was conveniently in the Gaslamp (where we were staying) and easy to find. Our server, CJ, was awesome. He was there when you needed him and no where to be seen when we didn't need him. The food was good with new flavor combinations to me which made it exciting. Not to mention the 6-sangria flight was perfect. We'll be back for sure."

"I love the food! We go to their Adams location and tried this place for a change. It was a bit loud, which is my only compliant of their other location.
The only issue we had was that they didn't accept my Synergy card although the Adams street place did! I ended up with a big charge on my credit card I hadn't expected!"

"Quirky spot in the Gaslamp district with an eclectic menu. Main draw for me - vegan options! Yeah! Everyone was delighted with their choices. Service was attentive. Food took a bit too long to come from the kitchen. Will definitely come back again, tho."

"Been coming to Cafe 21 a lot lately as their menu is eclectic and absolutely delicious. Everything is unique and innovative and we've never had a bad meal here. From their breakfast/brunch menu to the dinner menu, you will find everything to suit anyone, even the pickiest eater.
Their pancakes are the best I've ever had and I don't even like pancakes! Dinner, my favorite is the grilled whole sea bass. Their specials of the evening are always worth trying!
We love everything about this place! They have an impressive bar and the sangrias which change every week are definitely worth it!"

"Great food, and really cool decor. We really enjoyed our meal there. Services was pretty slow - not that they wait staff wasn't hustling, they just were overwhelmed. It certainly looked like they need to have a couple more people on staff. Same is true for bar staff..15-20 minute lead time on any drink order, even a draft beer."

"Love the decor and small touches all over the restaurant, this place would thrive just as well in the Bay Area as it does in San Diego. Some of the dishes really push it with accoutrements, but it's all delicious, so I made peace with the fact that I splurged on the calories for brunch. We came back for dinner since we won't be in town again for a while, so the menu is interesting enough (and good enough) for many return visits. The service is outstanding. I'm not sure why everyone is so happy at work, but it's infectious! Everyone we talked to was friendly, funny, and interested in talking, it was really memorable all around."

"We were celebrating a colleagues award. I called multiple times to change the reservation from 8 to 12 to 14 to 16 people from 8pm to 9:15pm and then to 8:15pm. I know this was excessive, but each time I called they were friendly helpful and accommodating! We had a diverse group and everyone LOVED their meal and experience!! It was truly an awesome night and really exceeded all our expectations!"
