"You can't "whisper" how great this restaurant is but you have to shout it out from the moutaintops, or in this location, across beautiful Spring Lake! "Whispers is a fantastic restaurant!!! The lobster special was outstanding...the best meal I have ever eaten!!!! My husband loved the sea bass!! "Good but mostly not outstanding food w/snobbish svc. Wouldn't expect overcooked halibut here & crabcake only mediocre. Shrimp apptzer was outstanding. Menu descriptions/selections/presentations wonderfully intriguing & above avg; but for the price there are better dining options. (Had better meal elsewhere next nite for 2/3 the price.) Ambiance odd; 2 very different rooms, we sat in what i'd consider a porch room & not the 1 pictured on web so right away experience didnt meet expectatations, plus temp was too cool; nothing worse than sitting down to experience a wonderful meal & feeling cold. Despite a lovely welcome, did not feel restaurant was particulary accomodating. Probably would not go back but could recommend w/caveats."

"The dinner was great. Overall the service was impressive. I really enjoyed the butternut squash soup shots and the right-out-of-oven biscuits. Even though it was prix fix for V-Day I was left completely satisfied. My date loved this place too, very nice location is Spring Lake with good parking."

"Somewhat expensive but worth the price. Excellent food coupled with a friendly, helpful waiting staff. The restaurant is BYOB, which affords you an opportunity to bring that more expensive bottle of wine that you would never order at inflated restaurant prices. Without a doubt, this is truly one of the more romantic dining experiences my wife and I have ever had. If you want to make a special evening a memorable one, this charming restaurant lodged within a small victorian-style hotel is just the thing. Likely to be more appreciated by those who eat out on a regular basis, since the usually enjoyable neighborhood restaurants -- as good as they may be -- will pale by comparison. A true five-star dining experience."

"Dining on Valentines Day is always hit or miss due to the limited menus and the demand for tables at most restaurants. At Whispers the appetizers, dinners and desserts were excellent. Everything was well presented by the wait staff and prepared by the chef. We felt slighty rushed, but nothing that could not be expected for the evening. The room was very loud, but only because of some of the patrons in the room. Overall, this restaurant made for a special evening.

I look forward to going back to this restaurant on a non occasion evening."

"This BYOB restaurant is one of the best in the area for food selection and variety. It is on a side street, in a small hotel. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. To get a full variety of the offerings, our meal consisted of a very nice squash soup, curried shrimp signiture appitizer, beet salad, spinach and pancetta salad, veal in puffed pastry special entree and lobster/crab cake entree, plus lemon napolean desert. All was prepared to perfection. We were not rushed or kept waiting for any course, although the restaurant was quite busy. Additionally, upon entrance to the restaurant, we realized we forgot to bring wine. The greeter called the local wine shop and had wine delivered for us. We will be visiting again soon."

"If you are looking for an upscale address with bland, pretty to look at food and need to be updated surroundings, this is it. Romantic? Consider the word corny. Plain bread not worth the calories. Salads were ok not wonderful. Dressing tasted flat instead of being layered with ingredients. The stuffed fish, an interesting and great combination was lacking taste. Polite, professional service. This could be a Neighborhood Gem at the shore with the right kitchen."

"It was my first time dining at Whispers and I will be recommending the restaurant to everyone I know. The gnocchi with braised lamb appetizer was perhaps the best appetizer I've EVER had. A real masterpiece of flavor and texture. The waiter later told me that it was his favorite and that he was trying to learn it from the chef but without the same success. For my entree I went for the Chilean sea bass with bok choy and rock shrimp mashed potatoes, marked as the chef's signature dish. Another exquisite creation. My fiance's dishes were excellent as well, based on her comments and a few tastes I had.

The staff were courteous and seemingly knowledgeable. Keep this in mind: Whispers is BYOB. Rare for a restaurant of this quality but nice."

"Have always been a huge fan of Whispers and NIck the owner, unfortunately this past visit was nowhere near to the excellence that has been in the past. Dinner was great..the waiter Andre was great until the end. I was extremely insulted and offended when in front of me he questioned a $50 gift certificate I used...it was just bad form. Just was let down when I have had nothing but great memories there."

"This restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate my one year anniversary with my boyfriend. We are 22 & 24 years old, but still truly appreciated the cozy and quiet atmosphere, impeccable service, and AMAZING food. I would highly recommend Whispers to any couple who is celebrating a special occasion, or just looking for a nice romantic night out. It was definitely one of the best restaurants I have ever been to!"

"Across the board - EXCELLENT. I thought it would be stuffy and snooty since it's in Spring Lake, but Christmas Day dinner was an excellent pre-fixe and they even had a special vegetarian entree made for me. Our server was incredible. A real find. I will definately return."

"Not my first time eating at Whispers. The food was just okay but my waiter was terrible. He gave us the feeling that he was doing us a favor serving us. Was not willing to take the time to discuss the menu and was just a huge snob in general. So many better places to spend $200 on a meal for two and no alcohol. This waiter ruined my anniversary dinner and I will not be returning to Whispers again."

"Well I decided late in the game I didn't want to cook on Thanksgiving we found availability at Whispers. Needless to say, I could not have prepared a meal half as good as what we had here.

The menu for Thanksgiving was special - choice of shrimp cocktail or gnocchi with braised lamb in a butter sage sauce as a first course. Salad with apples, cranberries, goat cheese and a pomegranate vinaigrette or butternut squash soup for a second... Main was turkey with ALL the trimmings and dessert was a choice of pumpkin pie, apple cranberry cobbler, a trio of sorbets or chocolate ganache.

We both had the gnocchi and I can honestly say they were like little pillows. I've NEVER had gnocchi as light as these. They were amazing. We tried both the"
