RokPrime is located across the street from the historic Mission in downtown San Juan Capistrano. We serve only Prime beef, chops, seafood, and poultry. All of our proteins are naturally fed and raised.
No hormones. No antibiodics.
Our steaks and seafood are cooked on an ultra hot lava Rok heated to 750 degrees and using only salts and minerals minded from the Himalayan mountains. This method of cooking the steaks creates a flavor and juciness you won't find anywhere. We deliver the best steak in Orange County.

"The food, if you have the patience to deal with the painful service staff, is good. I would not recommend this restaurant only because of the appearance that no one knows what they are doing there. It is a great concept that sadly, is not ready for prime-time!"

"We got a Travelzoo voucher for 4 for my son's BD. The steak was outstanding. The grigio I wanted was not available but the substitute was awesome. The people was very pleasant and service was excellent Given it's Mothers' Day, our waiter was forgetful and a little slow. I had to go look for our check but we had spent 3 hours there so I figured he was tired of waiting on us. We can't wait to come back."

"Reservation for 8 p.m. couldn't find reservation. Seated at 8:30. The host that has reservations everything hand written and unorganized. Once seated didn't see a waiter for 20 minutes. Acoustic guitar player very good but between the bar and the guitar player couldn't hear spouse talking at table. These were the negatives. Once we ordered the food service was good. Food was excellent especially the chocolate fondue. Would go back because of the food but expect some disorganization. This is what happens with inexperienced service people. Perhaps for this restaurant some of the older service people with some experience behind them would be best. Bus boy picked up dessert plates and fondue forks and we hadn't been served dessert yet."

"Had reservations on a Tuesday ... got right in ... it was nicely decorated and the server, Zach, was very informative, explained how the certificate worked. He was very informative on the different dishes. Had the braised short ribs and the hubby had the sea bass .... both were very good. All the items we had from salads to artichoke appetizer to creme burlee were spot on good

"Disagree with review in the OC Register on Wed. We were there Tues night and thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal. There was no spattering on the rock. Meat mealted in our mouths. We had the 6 oz filet. Everything was delightful and I have already recommended it to friends."

"Dinning experience was very good because a discount voucher was used. Food quality was very good, with very basic and raw flavors. Unique experience with the stones.
We got there just in time, because people who came 20 min. after us were told they were out of a lot of the choices on the menu.
A plus was the live music (excellent guitarist)."

"We live in the San Gabriel Valley. This was worth the drive! From the moment we checked in to leaving was AWESOME! We had a voucher from LivingSocial, good way to try out the restaurant. We are going back for our anniversary at the end of the month. Our waitress was Amy and she was AMAZING! The entire staff and owners were all very nice & accommodating. Nice restaurant for family special occasions, romantic etc."

"I enjoyed the ambiance and the happy hour. Unfortunately, the steak was the only good part of the meal. Brussel Sprouts were undercooked, the Mac n Cheese was bland, the asparagus wasn't anything fabulous and the Crème brûlée was runny and didn't even fill half the soufflé dish. Unfortunately, I won't recommend Rok to anyone. I'd rather spend my money on a steak dinner at Outback."

The risotto was delicious, my steak came out on the lava rock, which was very got and I was able to continue to cook my filet to perfection. It tasted great. My husband had the Comean bass which he said was wonderful, but he would have liked it to be a little bigger. I thought his Mac n cheese side was fabulous and my asparagus was delicious. Oh yeah, the waiter brought out sauce to go with both of our dishes which really complemented each of them really well.
I would definitely recommend and would return if/when in that area again."

"A friend and I celebrated her birthday last night at the RokPrime and were extremely happy with the experience from start to finish. The staff went overboard to wish my friend a happy birthday and the service throughout the evening was superb. The filet melted in my mouth and the wedge salad was by far the best I have ever had. We will both be returning soon and plan to spread the word about our positive experience at this restaurant to others!"

"The food was good not great. A neighborhood gem. A little pricey. Order your steak a little less done so that when it cooks on their hot stone it will be ready to eat at the right temperature and type. Dessert was very disappointing. Portion was small and did not come as read on the menu. (Butter cake). Would not rush back."

"If you order a steak be sure to have it come on the Lava Rock and more on the rare side. This way you can slice off the pieces and grill them as you eat them. Very interesting and fun. The kids menu is VERY reasonable and they have lunch for under $10 for a complete meal."

"We are locals and have been enjoying lunches at RokPrime. Last Sunday we took friends there for lunch. As we walked in the door, we were hit with a very strong bleach smell. One of our guests soon had trouble with watering eyes and breathing. We asked to move to another table near an open window in the front and that seemed to help. The other issue is about the "soup of the day". Last Sunday and the time before when we had lunch, the soup was not ready. I tried the tomato soup instead and it wasn't good. The RokPrime soup tasted like canned tomato sauce...no depth of flavor, very boring. On the positive side, we like the sandwiches, salads and service so will go back."

"The food was very good, and the staff is very attentive. Had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time, and that was only because we gave up on sitting inside and eating outside, which we did not prefer. Staff was very apologetic, and comped our drinks, which was cool for my wife, but not for me since I don't drink anyways. Service was a little slow, but that may have been due to the large parties. However, I do believe that service to smaller tables should not suffer because of a large party. One other item was that the large party decided to gather at the area where we were eating and were extremely loud and boisterous, which made it hard for my wife and I to hear each other. Staff did nothing to ask them to disperse to outside."

"You definitely need a reservation because this place gets busy. It's nice and cozy with a romantic feel. The hot lava rock for your steak is fabulous - so get your meat medium because it will cook fast! The live guitar player is wonderful and made the evening great. He plays jazz but can take request if he has the background music for it. Overall, will definitely go again!"

"The staff was great and the food was very good. As our first time there we opted to go with the filet mignon on the stone. The partially cooked filets came on a separate plates for each of us that contained a hot stone. In the divided areas of these plates contained the side dishes. There was no separate dinner plate to move the meat. Basically had to move it to the bread dish otherwise the filet would have continued cooking on the stone. It would have been better if there was one stone in the middle the two of us to cook our filets and then we could have moved them on a regular plate in front of us. We decided that if we came back we would opt out of having the stone and just have our completed meals brought to the table."

"Reservations mean little at this restaurant. We had reservations and had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. A regular showed up while we were waiting and he was seated directly. The dining experience was memorable in the negative sense. I will never patronize this restaurant and facilitate its arrogance."

"Decided to give RokPrime another chance, this time for lunch with girlfriends. Service was great, but food not same quality as dinner. I think they are going through growing pains, so we will give it a few months before heading back.

On two occasions we brought friends for dinner and both times we waited close to 30 minutes for our table, even with reservations. Thinking a later reservation would be better, we went another evening at 8:30 and were told that there will be a wait with 3 parties in front of us. We went to Vintage instead."

"I took my girlfriend for the first visit here, and we both absolutely loved the dinner and whole experience. Excellent food, unique preparation, good music, ambiance and great service. The menu was a little pricey, but the food is worth it! We would go back."

"This was our 2nd visit to RokPrime. Before I go any further, this USED to be Simply Fondue and several of the reviews on this site is for that restaurant. We had a Travelzoo voucher which was for a specific menu. I had the Strawberry and Spinach Salad. EXCELLENT and huge!! My husband had the soup of the day, Cream of Asparagus. We ordered the Onion Rings as our appetizer. We each and the 6 oz Filet as our entree, served on the "Rok". It was very good. I had a side of Mac & Cheese and my husband had the Grilled Asparagus. For dessert we shared the Creme Brulee. Overall the restaurant has a very intimate feeling and is decorated in an "old world" style. We will definitely return!!!"

"Had the filet, they ask how you would like it cooked. I asked for med Rare. Then bring it out on a hot stone for which you are supposed to gage on how long it should stay on the rock. My wife and I let it sit for about a minute or two. She cut into hers and told me to take it off because hers was well done. Mine was well done also. I was not happy with the whole presentation. If I am going to pay 30 dollars for a steak. I want the restaurant to cook it perfectly. Not let me try to decide when it should come off their hot rock. Our artichoke appetizer was good and the creme brulee was good.

"We tried this restaurant out through a Living Social Deal. My husband ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and said it was the best he had ever had. I ordered the petite filet that came on the hot rock. It was wonderful as well. The truffle fries were amazing and the butter cake for dessert was out of this world. Great service from the bar to our dinner table. My only complaint would be that the booths are very sunken in so low that the table tops seem high in comparison. Not a big deal for a tall person but for us shorties, you sometimes feel like you need a booster seat! Would definitely return in spite of the funky booths!"

"The experience was unique. The food was good, but nothing was exceptionally great. I ordered the smaller portion of the filet mignon and I would say I left satisfied (not full). When I go out to eat, I like to be full! We only got one roll each (before dinner) and would have loved another one. We misunderstood the sides and thought it was a "shared sides" (as the menu stated, so we thought it was going to be served family style) and were disappointed when the sides came, very small portions (for a restaurant/special occasion-not for every day eating!). Dessert was great. Service was quick."

"We had a great time at Rok Prime. The service was terrific, vibe was fun, and drinks were stiff. There is lots of space between tables which I like, and the live guitarist was a nice touch. The food isn't quite up to the high bar the rest of the experience set; it's perfectly edible, just not anything special, even though the volcanic stones are cool. Overall, Rok Prime is a nice addition to the SJC restaurant scene."

"Love the whole idea and experience of cooking my food on a rock at the table, however, the entire restaurant does get smokey after a while. The food was fair to good at best. The truffle parmesan fries had no truffle flavor and very little parmesan grated on top, the soup du jour (aspargus cream) was very creamy but was seriously underflavored and underseasoned, the sea bass was cooked perfectly but had no seasoning and the portion was VERY small for $28, likewise the ribeye was rather small and I doubt a prime cut for the price paid, the sides were also bland -- roasted corn with prosciutto/basil butter tasted, sadly, only of roasted corn and the white cheddar mac & cheese was slightly cheesy and in need of salt & pepper. Wont be back"
