"We have dined at this restaurant on several occassions over many years and it has always failed to be a stellar food occassion. However the food is good, as is the service and the atmosphere is wonderful for having a social meal with a lot of conversation. We had six people on this occassion and among us we tried their chopped pork, trout, and steak plus a couple of their salads. Everyone remarked that the food was ok but not a draw. Each of those having the pork remarked that it had been over refidgerated and had both the taste and texture of being rewarmed. The fish was tasty but over done. The steak was an expensive cut but did not justify the price. If you are ok with average food, and just want to chat, this is ok"

"We ate at the Grovewood Cafe on Mothers Day. The food was a little expensive, but ok. We had a bad experience with the service. We waited ten minutes at the table before being recognized by the wait staff. We ended up busing our own table to clear it for the dessert buffet. Our biggest challenge was whether to take the pile of dishes back to the kitchen or leave them on an empty table near by. All in all - an interesting - but not positive Mother's Day experience."

"We went to the Grovewood Cafe for the first time for Mother's Day lunch. Everything was perfect! The menu, the waitstaff, the atmosphere - it was all done excellently well."

"Super food for reasonable prices! Kitchen and server were very accommodating to my food requests. I noticed that a different dish featured seasonal morel mushrooms, and I asked whether they could include some morels in the vegetarian platter that I ordered. They had no problem with this, and the morels were great. You can get a meal at the Grove Park Inn restaurants for $50-75, or get equally good (maybe better) food at the Grovewood Inn right next door -- not a difficult choice. And if you’re in downtown Asheville, it’s worth the drive to enjoy the scenery here 15 minutes away."

"My 13 year old children and I very much enjoyed the Grovewood Cafe. After a long day of traveling and a sporting event it was a welcoming change to be able to relax, eat great food and be taken care of in a casual setting. The warm homemade breads did not last long in the basket. We enjoyed the cheese sampler to share but it was the only appitizer on the menue to share. Our entres were very flavorful and my children commented that they were just the right portions. We tried two of the desserts which were very good as well. My husband was late joining us and the staff was very accomedating. The service was friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning to Asheville and the Grovewood Cafe."

"We were tucked in a back room, very quiet but the staff was still attentive, if a bit snooty. The portions were very small, even for lunch and we left still feeling hungry enough to have dessert at another restaurant downtown. My sliders were tasty, however the omelette my significant other had was thin and the ingredients were not properly cooked within the egg, just quickly blanched and tossed in, very unsatisfying."

"Service was outstanding. Wait staff made us feel at home and like they knew us. Had been there for lunch before but not dinner. Very nice and they acknowledged the birthday we were celebrating."

"We came to the Grovewood with high expectations. These were not met. Food was average, at best. While menu descriptions were appealing, the execution was disappointing. Service was slow and unexceptional. A light lunch should not take 30 minutes prep time."

"As always, a very good dining experience. Attention to detail in all areas, highest quality food and presentation, solid wine list, delightful staff. This is a gem, and much better than any of the dining experiences next door in the Grove Park Inn itself. We have had fine lunch, dinner, and brunch here. Go!"

"An excellent answer for dinner out and away from the Grove Park Inn...right across the street, yet world's apart in atmosphere....cozy, intimate, yet energetic, friendly, warm and delicious! It was snowy and cold the night we walked in but were met with a welcome smile and pleasingly small, yet diverse menu. Our selections included a beef filet that was perfectly prepared and a chicken dish. We were very pleased with the food, prices and atmosphere. Will return!"

"Food was very good except the meat loaf was very dry... No gravy or sauce... When I asked if they has ketchup they came back and said no... Never heard of a restaurant not having ketchup"

"A wonderful surprise - the building is next to the Grovewood Gallery, so it's in the midst of a sculpture garden. The brunch menu was quite varied, and the portions were just the right size. The little biscuits with caraway seeds were delightful. You do need to drive into and thru the Grove Park Inn to get there - our GPS was very confused, but the parking attendant was very helpful."
