It's the oldest restaurant in San Francisco and the newly-completed historical renovation has brought new vitality to the area. The dining rooms are comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxing. Seafood specialties are skillets of mussels, shrimp and crab and clams prepared many different ways. Saturday, Sunday and Holiday brunch.
"This was my first vist although this is one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. The service was good, the food was fresh and the dining experience enjoyable. This is one of those old gems and I am glad I found it. I had the clams and they were very fresh and delicious. One of my dinner guests had the 1/2 crab and flavor was good but she thought the portion was small. We sampled three desserts: chocolate mousse cake, tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake. The 3 desserts were outstanding, especially the tiramisu."

"food was tantastic but the host/hostess are terriable... with reservation , we will have to wait for approx. over 30 minutes! We end up sitting in the bar area(without been asked) and the table was soooo small, there is no way is fit for 4 people. when I asked the host to change it, his attitude was "you can take this table or have to wait longer"!!
Again, GREAT FOOD BUT BAD SER VCIE!"

"Went on a Wednesday night and it had a lively dining hall and nicely grill shrimp and mussels at a decent price. Ciopino is another gem and though I would like to see a bit more variety of fish choices besides salmon, halibut and basa, I would visit again just for their fundamentals. Another downside is the neighborhood is relatively bleak and really nothing else around. Recommend to come for an early dinner/drinks."

"The new Old Clam House does a great job serving excellent food. The ambience is especially good for groups and the who;e restaurant is certainly a neighborhood gem. The wait staff needs to be more professional. They do a fair job but too many people get involved in serving a party at a location. It would be far better if one waiter served the table and stop all the "extras". When did it become normal to have a series of waiters and busboys service a single station? It doesn't work very well at the Clam House and the place isn't that big that it becomes necessary. Still, I would certainly come back and I plan too do that."

"I am so glad that the Old Clam House from my youth has returned. We used to go for a special occasion when i was a kid. the new revamped Clam House is worth multiple trips. We have had several celebrations there. the food is excellent! the salads are delicious. the fish top notch. a simple dish like fish and chips is made excellent by the light nongreasy batter used in addition to the delicate light fish used. my shrimp scampi - delicious. server was yvette - engaging, attentive, great server!"

"After spotting this historic building with glassed in porch and neatly set tables while doing business in this out of the way light industrial area, our interest was piqued. Months later we decided to visit OCH for lunch on the way to the Asian Museum (coming from Palo Alto). We enjoyed the old SF atmosphere and the lunch. Very fresh mussels are hard to find, but the ones at OCH were the best I have had in years. No off odor or flavor. Our waitress said that mussels are delivered daily. The preparation and garlic butter dip was delicious. Shared a chocolate mousse which was great."

"Your chowder lacked any sort of creamy quality, it was like potato paste. You don'tchop Caesar lettuce into little bits and add some unknown black ingredient and then, where was the parmesan. My friend liked her mussels but you need some help with yourpresentation. I will not return."

"The food at best is mediocre and over-priced. The service was bad. The waitress was polite and pleasant. We ordered salads. Before we could finish them all of our dishes were brought to the table and left there. The result was a dish of cold linguini with clams. I mentioned this to the person who brought the dishes. She didn't care. Just to top off the evening, the waitress dropped a fork covered with tomato sauce in my lap leaving a stain on my shirt. She didn't seem to notice, and I didn't make a fuss. It was Saturday night and the staff seemed more focused on closing the restaurant than serving us. I live in Bernal and have gone to the Clam House off and on for 45 years. I'm off until food and service get better"

"We both order the Cioppino. We were there about two months ago and ordered the same thing. The Cioppino sauce was fantastic and to die for! This time I saved some and brought it home. I will get some fresh clams and shrimp, saute them and then add the sauce and have it for dinner tonight. However, The sauce.........this time it was a littl too spicy. Both my friend and I thought it was too spicy. Maybe too much hot sauce, the spicyness just wasnt quite right for us. For desert, we had the lemon torte which was part of the Price Fixe dinner. It came from an Entenmann's box. It wasnt made for them or made there on site."

"The food is consistently great, and always arrives piping hot. Our server went above and beyond the call of duty. One of our party arrived a few min. late, and we'd already ordered. She was about to refuse to order, when the server was so kind in insisting she stay. Within minutes, her order was brought out, and our guest was beyond pleased! Seating on the "slanted" side is a bit awkward, if you have more than 4 people, but they accommodated us wonderfully."

"This is a fabulous restaurant with the best food ever. I was raised with a lot of Italians, so I know home cooked and their coppino rivals any home made italian. I love this place because the food is great, the prices are reasonable, and it's comfortable casual atmosphere makes it a delightful place to go. It's definately authentic San Francisco and I hope it never changes."

"We got there on a Thursday and the hostess was glum. The server was smiley we ordered some drinks that came fast enough. Then we ordered or apps and mains. The apps came out fast the calamari was hot but just okay! The apple salad had wilted old lettuce and like 8 pieces of apple. I ate my few apples and passed on the lettuce. The mains took awhile, but not for everyone just us, and the server did ask my friend if he wanted another drink but my glass was still full she never asked again. The mains were cold and just blah! Overall great ambiance needs better service!"

"This is the second time I have gone to The Clam House, once for lunch and this time for dinner. The service at lunch was fantastic but the service at dinner was awful. The waitress could not describe a single dish, didn't know what size the salads were, got two drink orders confused and on top of everything else, at 6 PM with a relatively empty house, three different waiters serviced our table at the same time and they all seemed confused. We had to ask for bread several times, ask for refills on water and generally fend for ourselves. The difference between the lunch service and the dinner service was unbeleivable. Based on the dinner service I would not return for dinner. Too bad because I think the place is really great."

"The newly renovated Old Clam House looks wonderful in that the owners opted to renew to exactly the way it was at the beginning. The bar is fabulous with outstanding bartenders, the dining room and the outside, glassed-in porch is inviting and friendly and the food is excellent and arrives hot, served by friendly and informed waiters. The host on the night we were there was friendly, cooperative and interested in the diners. An all around great experience. The booths are wonderful for privacy and great conversation. A Gem on the Bayshore.Highly recommended."

You can have a very good meal and enjoy the wine of your choice at $24.00 for one prix fix meal X's 2 is under $50.00 before gratuity and tax. One can not beat this easily. Value is Excellent."

"BIG portions, very old-school style food that doesn't scrimp on grease and ingredients. We came here for lunch on a weekend. I had a clam and mozzarella omlette. It was a little wierd, but I enjoyed it. The clams were fresh, not canned! The small potatoes that came with it were slightly smashed and had a nice crispy finish. My friend had a calamari steak that was huge and had alot of garlic and butter on it. Tasty, not rubbery at all but VERY filling. Nice old school ambiance. A little touristy, but fun overall."

"We went a couple of nights ago and it exceeded our expectations. Food was great. We had 1/2 dozen oysters, the butter lettuce salad, steamed clams and clam linguine. Not a morsel was left . They start you off with french bread and butter and bring each of you a 4+ oz glass of warm clam juice. Good food, friendly quick service, great table, good selection of draft beer and oh yeah, very reasonably priced. We are going back here, it was terrific."

"Great place for a birthday brunch, the staff was very welcoming. Classic SF historic neighborhood atmosphere and quiet enough to have a family conversation. Blood orange mimosas were unique and delicious. Crab on eggs benedict was succulent, eggs poached to perfection. Pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet, but it seemed odd that they came with toast and potatoes when fruit would have been a better choice."

"This was our first visit under new ownership and after the remodeling. Love the new menu and the new space, The old pictures and displays add a nostalgic touch. They kept the tradition of serving clam juice when guests seated. The roasted crabs and mussels were super good. The bone-in filet mignon was done perfectly. Plenty of seafood choices. And, must try the signature ginger martini. Our server was friendly and helpful. Food delivery was prompt. We plan to revisit with the entire family."
