From the fisherman’s ship to the Granville Street strip – here, the seafood is as fresh as the crowd. So roll up your sleeves, tie on a bib, grab a mallet and dig in – The Fish Shack has arrived.
Be lured by the freshest seafood direct from the boat to your table. Fish so fresh they jump off the plate, oysters worthy of slurping and the best fish n’ chips you’ve ever had.
"If you want fish in a very casual, family and vibrant restaurant...this is the place. I had oysters and steamers. I am not an oyster freak, but my wife said they were the best she had ever eaten. Her blackened halibut was also very good. Ian, our server from Nova Scotia could not do enough for us...and only at just the right timing. We had been to Glowbal Grill in Yaletown for lunch that day and Russel, our attentive server there, recommended the Fish Shack and he did not steer us wrong. Good Glowbal experience all around."

"Fish and chips were overpriced and nothing special, ordered the small catch, very bland just steamed platter of seafood with no flavor, the crab had no meat in it, server saw that we were not enjoying our food, gave us cayenne pepper instead of letting us order something different. Server never refilled our drinks the whole 1 hour we were there."

"My girlfriend and I had Brunch at the Fish Shack and we had a great experience! We both ordered the dungeness crab benny and 10 oysters. Our oysters came out first. The waitress provided up the sauce for the oysters and told us what each one was. As my girlfriend had some "seafood sauce" on her oyster, the sauce turned out spicy. We then realized that both "red" sauces were chilli and not seafood. We told the waitress, changed it and apologized. A few minutes later, she gave us an extra oyster because of the mistake she made, A+ service! The benny then came out. Everything was amazing except for the egg yolk. We ordered medium poached but it turned out well done. Other than that it was great. Overall a great experience and would recommend!"

"I was attracted by the promise of gluten-free fish and chips, and I was not disappointed. The restaurant puts a bit of a kick in their tartar sauce and their coleslaw which is interesting. Personally, I enjoyed. I had the lunch box, one piece of haddock, chips and a salad. Appropriately sized but for a hungrier person I'd recommend 2 pieces.
The restaurant is one of the Glowbal group but it is definitely more casual then either Black + Blue or Italian Kitchen. Not a bad thing but something one should know."

"The restaurant setting is unique and interesting; definitely worth to check out.Lunch deals look good for sure; will try that for lunch next time. Draft beer selections were a little disappointed. Service was okay, not overally outstanding or worth to talk about. The seafood platter looks good; but I didn't have it."

"We had a great time. We came to the Fish Shack because my wife and mother-in-law are celiacs and the restaurant offers gluten-free fish and chips, a definite treat for people normally unable to tolerate wheat or gluten. The service was nothing short of excellent - we had some free tasters from the chef and the server was very attentive to all of our needs. Definitely will recommend and will likely return in short order!"

"second time going to fish shack. First time was delicious and fun. Good value for the small catch. Unfortunately this time the service was extremely below what is expected from a glowbal group establishment. I appreciate the attempt by the manager to salvage the night. But when spending a night dining out, I want to be sure to choose a restaurant where I am sure to get a consistent enjoyable experience. Fish shack is officially off my list of restaurants to ever consider dining at."

"I had heard great things about the Fish & Chips, but instead opted for the "small catch" that I shared with a friend as I wanted something lighter. It was OK... I personally wasn't a fan of all different kinds of fish cooked together in a net, along with the potatoes - everything just ended up tasting the same, and quite fishy. I will be back though to give it another try; probably on a Sunday to have the crab or lobster-fest which sounds delicious and is a good price. My husband, who had the fish tacos (dry) said he'd like to try the fish & chips next time."

"The staff was terrific and good was tasty. Only mix-up was the fish in the fish and chips and they took care of that right away. It's a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy the experience of sharing each other's food. :-)"

"The food is quite good, it is a Glowbal restaurant.
The service wasn't as good, they mixed up our order with another table so our food was quite late. The staff wasn't really that apologetic for it, they seemed to want to brush it under the rug. It's a bit disappointing considering it is a Glowbal restaurant so I have higher expectations as the higher end Global restaurants provide exceptional service, and I've been to them all.
The service is not by a dedicated waiter, it get's mixed up with multiple different waiters so it seems to provide confusion among the waiters."

"We had a great server, who was very accommodating to allergies. She also made some fun recommendations for cocktails. Food was delicious, I had fish tacos, and my husband had 2 pieces of halibut. We both had fries, and they had a great seasoning. Tables are extremely close together, but it is a small venue. We went later at night around 930, and there were some corner tables open. Overall, we had a great dinner, and a fun date night."

"My friend and I went to The Fish Shack last Wednesday evening. First of all, there was only one person working the floor... it was later in the evening but the place was still 3/4 full and should have at least one more staff on the floor (the waiter did do a pretty good job attending to everyone).
We ordered the fried Oysters for appy but there were only 4 small oysters that we didn't even feel like we ate anything. Then we ordered the Big Catch (with high hopes) but it was another big disappointment... Although the seafood was very fresh, the lack of quantity of food given the price was very dissatisfying.
We spend just under $100 with drinks and tips and walked away still hungry and end up going to another restaurant to "fill up"."

"I went to the Fish Shack for brunch with my sister and brother-in-law. My brother-in-law and I had the Fish Shack Breakfast, which was supposed to come with a lemon biscuit. The waitress didn't tell us that the biscuit wasn't available until after our food came and it was substituted with an english muffin. They didn't have any jam (!!), so the waitress brought us maple syrup and honey instead. Our sausages were cold. My sister had the calamari salad, which she enjoyed. The waitress was good and friendly, but we weren't impressed by the food. It looks like the oysters are a great deal for a buck-a-shuck, maybe I'll come back when I'm not pregnant to have some oysters. I think lunch or dinner would be a lot better than brunch at Fish Shack."

"This was a dissappointing experience. Here is what was done correctly; the decor that was in keeping with the name "Fish Shack". The staff were attentive and friendly, well trained. But the food was just plain boring. There was no wow factor on anything we ordered (and I am easy to please). Work on the food, you have everything else correct."

"A group of four. Started at the bar, good atmosphere, chatted with the oyster shuckers. Seated upstairs over looking the first floor.Good seat.Good waiter. Appies-friends shared combo steamer, enjoyed it. Hubby had the crab cocktail, good, a little spicey. I had the shrimp cocktail. Bay shrimp, looked like something you'd see sold at the grocery store covered in plastic wrap. Shredded lettuce, cocktail sauce, sad looking shrimp. so so. Mains:Friends had Halibut and Chips, generous portions, they liked it. Husband had the snapper, served with salad and coleslaw, decent portion, he enjoyed it. I had the ahi tuna, same salad and coleslaw. 3 tiny pieces of tuna, each about the size of a loonie.Tasty - way too small. Sent the cheesecake back."

"Great seafood at a great price point. If you're okay with shellfish, go for the Fisherman's catch. The Small Catch is perfect for a couple, excellent as a first date dinner! You can get your hands "in the pot" so to speak. Laid back atmosphere, nothing pretentious. I think this is a good replacement for Sanafir."

"since we sat down, it seems like our female server has a bit of attitude and very cold. i did not care too much as the food was fine. A buck a shuck was pretty good. However, after we got the bill, we told them we are going to use the glowbal dinning gift card, then we waited 10mins for them to complete the payment :( during this ten mins, a male server kept walking through between my chair and the next table s chair. Four times! He squeezed himself through! Every time he bumped my chair without apology , I was annoyed because our table is beside the hall way, there were other ways he can go pass, and he had to chose the one between two tables."

"It was interesting to see Sanafir transform into Fish Shack. From glam to casual. The food and service were very very good. The noise was too much. Hard to talk because you cannot hear! I get it that the room is tall and maybe be echo-y, but you could turn down the TVs and music, the music in particular. We go out for good food and we still enjoy each other's company, we enjoy talking to each other...."

"Our experience was very good but only because we changed tables when we first arrived. Origingally we were seated in a very very dark spot right beside the entry door and it was not nice. I noticed other people not wanting to sit there either and had we stayed at that table we would not have enjoyed our evening nearly as much. The ambiance in the rest of the restaurant it great and our server was delightful and informative. She even brought us some seafood chowder compliments of the house."

"Great neighborhood restaurant on Granville. Weird decoration. I liked the old decoration much better. The service was VERY slow. We waited almost 45 minutes for a salmon salad and a fish burger. The food was very light, fresh, and well prepared. The burger's bun was awful and felt similar to the type of bun you get at McDonald. It just did not taste and look like a quality piece of bread."

"Had a wonderful experience. Ordered the "Big Catch" for three seafood lovers and we were bloated on our way out! There were only three groups when we came in so noise level was pretty good. The servers were lively and our server was attentive, seeing as we were the only guests in his table, i don't see a reason why he wouldn't have been. Definitely fit for kids and adults. Overall a great experience! Will be coming again for sure!"

"We really had a nice time at the Fish Shack. Had read a review and we knew we'd be ordering the fish tacos. They didn't disappoint either! Great fries I might add. Quite filling too which was great as we were both hungry. Our waitress was a gem, quite outgoing, not a super sales person which is a nice treat as I hate it when wait staff try to over sell you on items. All the staff were kind, considerate and polished. The casaer drink was great with the prawn garnish, nice touch! Overall a good dinner and I'll be making a return visit for those tacos. Had sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it was good but there was too much sauce which overwhelmed the cake part. Less sauce guys, it was sweetness overload!"

"The Fish Shack definitely has its charm and I'll be coming back again, but likely for appies and drinks when I'm looking for boisterous atmosphere. One issue that I have with a couple(not all) Glowbal Group restaurants is the lack of noise cancelling technology employed (either in physical materials or actual tech). Was very hard to hear my own conversation. That being said, the service was great and very efficient. The food was okay. The oysters (buck a shuck) were great but my tablemates found the fried fish and chips overly oily (mine wasn't quite as bad but came from a different frier because I am gluten free). Will definitely come back to try a grilled variety for comparison sake."

"Went to the Fish Shack for the Dine Out menu, was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. It was fairly good, and the place worked well for a group, in addition to being fairly reasonably priced. The beer menu is a bit lacking, but the server was very energetic and really went the extra mile to check in on our table regularly and to be charming and polite. I would recommend it if you are looking for something open late night, good for a group, and fairly good food. It's definitely noisy, and located in one of the more colorful parts of Granville, so if you are a fan of that sort of thing, those are more points in its favor, personally I'm not such a fan, but the noise didn't ruin the restaurant for me."

"When I booked with Open Table I requested a table upstairs for two if the restaurant was full or noisy. When I arrived not only did I not get a table upstairs but downstairs right beside the main door. The table was so dark that I was not able to see the menu.I asked for a candle and they said they did not have any. The head waiter finally brought me his iphone which had a light so I could see the menu and order. Our waitress was a young girl, who did more talking than serving and we were disappointed with her service. She allowed our dinner to sit on the next empty table while she chatted with customers for ages. Then she complained and said,`why didn`t he put the big platter on your table`"

"I should have looked at the menu closer before I went, but I didn't expect the majority of the menu offerings to be deep fried. The service was friendly, for the most part, but we had about four different servers and it was hard to get a hold of any of them. I got the impression it was busier than they were used to, especially as they were taking part in Dine Out Vancouver. My dessert didn't come with the sauce it was supposed to, the server who dropped it off we hadn't seen before and she didn't say anything. It took about five minutes to catch another server who I could ask about the sauce--apparently they were out of it, but he did manage to find me a little."

"Went out for a business dinner with my colleagues. We all had the Dine out menu which for $18 for three courses, was a great deal. Room is very energetic and loud. You have to try to talk over the music which raises the level of all the voices in the room, this would be the only downside we experienced. Staff was great, food was too. Decor is funky and fresh with wooden pallets on the wall and heavy rope detail on the opposite wall. Just what Granville Street needed. I'll be back...."
