"I have been going to Cafe del Rey for many years. Usually once a year because certain family members enjoy being there --- not necessarily eating there, but being there (it's a nice room with a lovely view).
We normally go on the weekend.
I'm pretty sure what I'm about to say is accurate: the menu has basically not changed in a long time.
You offer a limited array of meal choices, most of which are not of interest to me.
Why a lamb burger? If I wanted that, I'd go to a Middle Eastern eatery (which I do, when I'm in the mood for that). Why not just a regular Hamburger... or Cheeseburger... but one that would be unique to your establishment.
Maybe freshen up your menu for often...

"Took friends to a late Friday lunch and it was lovely and leisurely. When I went online to check the menu, I saw that if I registered online, Cafe del Rey would give a free wine flight to each person at lunch. It was an added treat to a very nice lunch, and our server was accommodating and terrific."

"Visitors from out-of-town invited me to dinner and asked me to pick a spot on the water. I hadn't been to Cafe del Rey in a while, but had enjoyed it in the past. We got an early start and were seated at a window table, overlooking the moored sailboats in Marina del Rey and the channel beyond. The sun set as we dined, and the view of the ever changing light was perfect. My friends had a beet salad followed by sea bass, and I opted for the small Caesar salad and seared scallops. All the food was well prepared, with imaginative seasonal accompaniments. Service was courteous and attentive, but never overbearing. Our waiter knew the menu and, when asked, made sound suggestions. We were never rushed, and could comfortably converse."

"I am actually an east-coaster who travels to LA a lot on business. Invariably, I end up staying at LAX my last night to get the 6am flight out. It has become my routine to escape to Marina del Ray the last night for a relaxing dinner. With only a 10 minute drive, it is a completely refreshing experience at Marina, made more special by Cafe del Rey. The last trip, I watched a guy propose (on bended knee) at the next table. This time was my first for lunch with a colleague. Steven was our server and he was personable and professional. We tried the sampler entree special - CDR has a fancier name that I cant recall, but it is essentially a big square plate with four smaller squares - tapas style but for one. Amazing!"

Food is kind of expected, not terrible, nothing to write home about, but dependable. prices reasonable. service good, but i was eating with someone who is a regular and knew everyone there by name, so that might have contributed . would recommend to others to eat there. Valet parking only. There was, when you drive in for lunch, $4 but then when i walked out there was a new sign saying parking was complimentary, so i was confused. Its a little off beaten track, slightly hard to get to, just due to the fact that you have to curve around a couple streets to get there, but thats the configuration of the marina and i know my way around, so i wasn't bothered by that, neophytes to area may get a little lost, allow time"

Salad was ok-over priced and small portion. Tuna was good-presentation was nice but again-not much to eat. "Not a great dining experience. Our waitress didn't have the qualities for this kind of restaurant, charging these prices. We waited 15 minutes at our table before anyone said anything to us. The organic chicken was good, but lacked some seasoning. The pasta dish with short rib meat was tasty, but the sauce was over powering. We asked the waitress to split the bill 3 ways, which put her over the edge it appeared. That kind of request should be business as usual for this type of restaurant. And we waited an hour for our food, which the waitress compensated us for with free drinks."

"THe food was amazing. Unfortunately, our server was awful. He took our drink order, and said he would be back in 2 minutes, but did not return for about 15-20 minutes. The bussers never came to us either, unless we flagged them down. I almost wanted to find the manager and complain, but it was so busy and noisy I decided not to. "Fantastic! Cafe Del Rey helped us celebrate my husband's birthday in style. I had left some requests on our online open table reservations and Cafe Del Rey had met all of them! Love, love this restaurant. It is definitely our "special occasion" destination."

"We invited another couple to celebrate Valentine's Day. We called in to advise we will be late due to traffic delay. We were told no problem. When we arrived, we were seated immediately by the window with a beautiful view of the marina. They offered a prix fix menu with a good variety. We were offered champagne and the ladies got a rose. Food and service was excellent. Senior staff pitched in to serve on this busy night, an excellent sign of a well run establishment."

"This has always been a favorite place, great food. I took a guest from overseas and his wine glass tipped over and broke on the plate so inadvertantly glass spilled into his food which we had just received. The staff was quick to remove the mess and clean the table and bring him another dish (not the same as they were already out of what he ordered) but the restaurant charged us for BOTH of his plates. Needless to say I was very disappointed as I expected a different response. Not to say that it was the restaurants fault but I thought they were of the level to at least offer to cover half since my guest could never have eaten the dish with broken glass in it."

"I've had dinner there on a number of occasions, but this was my first visit for lunch. As I might have expected, the menu offered some creative twists on old favorites. I had the BLTA. By far the best bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado sandwich ever.
The chef certainly has a vision. CDR has game - and I don't mean the four-footed kind. If you're looking to do some serious eating, this is the place."

"Very interesting menu with a number interesting combinations of things for each entree. Our scallops were outstanding with many different tastes blended together. Appetizers were also unique and both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our choices - a salad and a pizza. Very extensive wine list but easy to find wines in any price range from moderate to very expensive."

"Service was terrifc in all aspcts! However, a little disappointing were the entrees. The black linguini with lobster was too tasty, without something to balance it out especially since it was a large portion, and the lobster was dry and tough. The scallops were salty, but the corn helped balance, otherwise I liked the flavor. The best dishes that night were the pork tanine(it was on the LA Dine menu) and the eggplant pannelle (starter); they were wonderful."

"Food was beautifully presented and very good. THe waiter did ask the chef to come out and explain the lack of burrata in our burrata salad, which he quickly replaced. Steak was delish but undercooked. Next time I'll order it one notch more than I really want. Ambiance was wonderful."
