We saw the need for a classic steakhouse with an atmosphere that blends the history of Norfolk with the contemporary tastes of today. After years of planning and preparation, we are pleased to introduce Norfolk Chop House.
Our number one goal is to provide quality food at an affordable price in an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. Serving only Certified Angus Beef steaks and local farm products including veal, lamb and pork, our menu also includes fresh, local seafood and unique offerings flown in daily from around the country. Carefully prepared in our state-of-the-art kitchen, we only serve the freshest vegetables available and offer an extensive wine list and local beers on tap.

"4 of us went this last Saturday at 8pm. Nice interior and ambiance. The problems started with the wine order, as we were told several minutes after ordering that they were out of that particular bottle. The Gin and Grapefruit order was also rejected as the basic gin was out as well. The bacon-wrapped scallop appetizer used other than "fresh off the skillet" bacon, but the coconut shrimp was ok. My wife's NY Strip was a touch over-cooked, but this was minor compared to my Ahi Tuna order which I ordered medium rare. It came to the table completely gray and over-cooked, and immediately sent it back. The second attempt delivered a tuna so rare it was literally cold on the inside. The "comped" Creme Brûlée was burnt on top and cold under."

"My date and I started off with the Calamari, the Thai Chile Sauce was an excellent and fresh twist on a classic appetizer.
I had the Filet with a side Caesar and the baked potato. The salad was fantastic, the shaved Parmesan and lemon zest really added to the flavor of the white anchovies. My filet was ordered Medium and came out perfectly done and the baked potato was fluffy.
My date ordered the NY Strip with side Caesar and mashed potatoes, the Strip was also ordered Medium and was just as perfect as the filet.
For dessert my date and I had the Creme Brulee and it was absolutely superb.
Service was excellent, the atmosphere was quiet and the decor was well appointed. Do not judge by the exterior!"

"Hats off to the Norfolk Chophouse for a wonderful Mothers Day dining experience. Our waiter provided great service was very knowledgable and attentive to all our needs. The food was excellent. It exceeded all of our expectations, from appetizer to dessert. The wine, suggested by our waiter, was a delightful California Pinot Noir that paired well with our perfectly prepared steak fillets. We will be returning very soon."

"Went to Norfolk Chop House to celebrate son's graduation. We had an early reservation (5PM). Place was very quiet - but only 5 tables were filled while we were there since it was so early. The staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. Price was what you would expect for a steakhouse. Would recommend it."

"My newly established fiancé found this little gem and I am very glad she did. From the beginning I liked the feel and mood of this classic chop house. I found out, (from my fantastic waiter) that this building was at one time a car dealership and another time a furniture warehouse. The restaurant was almost empty when we came in, 1 hour after opening, but it did not take away from the experience at all. From the get go I could tell that our waiter knew what he was doing. Stephen was perhaps the best server I have ever had in all my experience with fine dining. He was able to guide us through what he saw as the best choices for what we wanted. Our appetizer was delicious and our entrees were incredible, add in a fine desert and voila."

"I made my first visit to the Norfolk Chop House on Friday and I was not disappointed. The waiters were helpful with food selections and wine pairings. The food was fantastic and I would recommend the filet or duck. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend this restaurant."

"Our waiter seated us and then took about 10 mins before he came back to offer us drinks. He seemed bothered to serve our table but treated other tables with more interest. Took an hour and a half to get our food and it really wasn't all that good. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!"

"Spent 2 1/2 hours there for dinner! I don't like to rush things but this was unbelievable. Food was good. Also, made reservations through open table for 7:30 pm received a confirming email back for 7:30 pm but when I arrived they had me down for 6:30 pm. I guess I was lucky it wasn't that busy."

The filet and pork chops were excellent and cooked to order. The mashed sweet potatoes lacked seasoning and were a disappointment. Free (other than gratuity) valet parking is an excellent feature."

"I took my wife to the Norfolk Chop House for her birthday, so we wanted a romantic place for a special occasion. We also brought our 4 month old son, so we went on the earlier end (5:30) in order to keep ahead of bedtime and be at the restaurant at a more kid-friendly hour. We often take our son out to eat with us, and it can be touchy if he needs attention. The Chop House went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The staff carried him around to give us time to eat, stayed engaged with us while respecting our rare date-night experience. It was one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. The food (steaks) was fantastic, as was the regular wait service. Nice space, too."

"We were in the mood for the traditional good steak and baked potato. We got just what we were looking for and more. Our waiter, Tucker, was very attentive, the atmosphere was fun, excellent wine, food: fabulous. We left fat and happy. We also noted the safeness of the fenced in parking lot with valet who gave us a beeper to let him know when we were done eating so he could have our car waiting for us at the door (now that is service!)."

"The cowboy cut was great again. Very tender and flavorful. We did get two sides, and the portions are a little small for the price. Our waitress was not very attentive - could certainly have been worse but when you're paying these prices you'd think someone could at least remember to bring bread when asked or stop by a little more often. We were here on New Year's and the service was excellent. Overall we were still pleased with the restaurant and will consider revisiting."

"Our experience was just OK. We expected so much more. Our waiter had too many tables and we waited large blocks of time. He took two tables' food orders prior to ours who came in after us, so that was not good. Food came to the table barely warm, like it may have been sitting under a lamp for a while. No one asked us how our food experience was, or I would have told them. So overall all very mediocre. We expected so much more. Food mediocre and service the same! Only plus was atmosphere cute and the had valet parking."

"Our party of three had two problems:
-Fist, one of us ordered the lamb chops medium rare, they came very rare. Sending them back once happens, but they came back STILL rare, and had to be sent back. By the time they came back, cooked medium rare, the dinner was over. Also, there was no attempt to compensate for the wait with a drink, dessert, or discount.

"We celebrated Valentine's Day at the Norfolk Chop House, and we were thrilled. The steak was perfect. I loved the simplicity of the menu, too. My wife had the filet and I had the Cowboy Ribeye.
The service was terrific. When we were first seated, it was at a table in the middle of the dining room, and we felt kind of conspicuous. They moved us to a different table with no trouble. Great spot for a date night."

"Don't be fooled by the neighborhood. The inside is elegant, the menu impressive, and the food extraordinary. Our server was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers and salads. In fact, the French onion soup was one of the best I've ever had - very rich and beefy with a ton of cheese. Their take on calamari is innovative, tasty, and worth a try. Both the Caesar and wedge salads were yummy. We were dining on a Sunday night, and both opted for the prime rib, which was tender and favorable. (The leftovers made for a wonderful Monday night meal, too.) I highly recommend adding the creamed spinach. We'll definitely be back. I don't know why it's taken us two years to find the place."

"We went for the Sunday Prime Rib special. I've driven by many times but never went in as the location is a little iffy. What a mistake on my part. Everything from the free valet service throughout the evening was just outstanding. The prime rib was perfect, and the waiter was excellent - attentive without being obtrusive. I live in Ghent and have eaten out in every restaurant in the neighborhood. This place stands out in the crowd."

"Found the Norfolk Chop House on OpenTable, and decided to give it a try. After moving to Hampton Roads from Omaha 5 years ago, I had been looking forward to finding a worthy steakhouse. Norfolk Chop House is that steakhouse. The wife and I ate hear for V-day, and it was a great hit! The ambiance was wonderful, and the food was absolutely delicious. We both had the filet, with different sauces, and we were both very satisfied. The crab dip was excellent as well. Our server Chris was great and very attentative. We will definately be back!"

"Excellent steak, one of the best I have had in a long time. The food and service was far superior to that of the riverside chop house located relatively close. Service was slightly less desirable that that of Steinhilber's in Virginia Beach, the steak was better than what is steinhilber's, though that isn't a fair comparison since steinhilber's is more known for its seafood. The waitress was nice but a little slow and forgetful, but in the end everything was right. When my guest and I arrived there was a short wait even though we could see open tables and the waiting area is to small. There is a valet which was nice because the parking lot was small and the building is located on the edge of the good part of town, so it seemed safer."

"Excellent, friendly service from waiter. Excellent valet service as well. I only regret forgetting my leftovers at the table! Only concern was that when we checked in the hostess had said our reservation (for 7pm) was mistakenly already checked in but quickly fixed the error. The interior decor is very swanky yet romantic and not over-the-top. Recommend the philly steak eggrolls!"

"It was great. The waiter was a unprofessional by calling me nick name like "guy, boss" I am a chef and the food was great just the waiter was not up to par and also the waiter kept touching my guest and I every time he came to check on out foor or drinks."

"Our steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The appetizers were great, I took a star off the food because their mashed potatoes were bland. That might be nit picky, but a steakhouse should be able to make decent mashed potatoes. The other problem was the waiter, he treated us as if we had never been in a restaurant as nice as his. Also for whatever reason he was just not on his A game, and I suspect caused the long wait on our entrees coming out, it was long enough that my wife and I changed our conversation to wondering when the food would show up plus another 10 minutes. Food was great and prices were reasonable, I would consider going back to see if the service improved."

"the place was nice looking they had a coat check and free valet but the menu is very small and to me overpriced for the amout of food you are given. Most likely i wouldnt go back again unless someone else paid i ended up spending $134 and was not full which is something you would expect my biggest gripe is just the portions even with the appetizers costly $10 and only getting 3 or four of the item you chose."

"Second time I've gone to Chop house and will go back. Both times i've gone it has been on a weeknight. There were only 5 total tables being served. When i drive by on weekends its packed. Also the place can't be doing too bad when the valet drives a porsche..."

"I absolutely love The Norfolk Chop House! I look forward to it everytime I make a reservation! The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious. The decor is perfect, it is definitely a hidden gem sitting inside of an old warehouse! Be sure to ask for Richard, he is the BEST waiter I have ever had!"

"I ordered the 18 oz bone in Ribeye. It was cooked perfectly, and was a great cut of meat. I am skeptical it was actually 18 ounces (as normally that would be way too much) but it was the perfect amount after skipping an appetizer and having the included salad.
My first wine choice was out of stock, but I was satisfied with the less expensive recommendation by the waiter.
Fun place, great food."

"Ambiance is still nice, dinner service much improved since last time, but the kitchen has slipped since our last visit, especially in its sauces and salad dressing. Rolls were served upon request and delivered w/ the salad course. Our companion sent her salmon back to be further cooked (requested it "done"). The desserts we sampled, cheesecake and bread pudding, were far too sweet (with canned mandarin oranges on the pudding, not the blood oranges described on the menu). Hostess had been sent home, so at 9 PM no one was around to claim our coat check; after a 10-min wait, we finally walked to the kitchen window and hailed a waiter to locate our coats in a closet. Next time we'll give the coat check to the server when we pay our bill."
