*** NO CORKAGE FEE ON MONDAY, TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY NIGHTS ***. Mezzé offers an innovative pan-Mediterranean menu that changes with the seasons. Described in the Zagat guide as “no longer just a neighborhood spot” this Oakland jewel is a real "treat" at delivering eclectic fare. The menu encompasses a wide variety of dishes, including pizze, Turkish lamb kebabs, housemade gnocchi with pulled duck confit, coriander-crusted ahi tuna, gourmet hamburgers, wood-oven roasted chicken. One can have a light supper or a multi-course meal and feel satisfied in either case. Every night, Mezze offers one or two three-course prix fixe menus for between $23 - $30 depending on the entrées selected by the Chef that evening. This prix fixe is available all night. Mezze periodically features regional Mediterranean menus, available Mon.-Thurs. In the past, we featured Spanish, Moroccan, French, Italian and Greek menus among others. "Absolutely delicious! The croissant bread pudding was the best dessert I've ever eaten, and I mean that. One of the best dishes I've ever had. The lamb and the gnocci with duck confit was worth every penny. I highly recommend eating here."

"Went to Mezze on a Friday night for a birthday celebration dinner for my husband, and it was great! First off they let me change my reservation from 7:30 to 7 when I called at 6:30...no problem, they said. When we got there it was pretty packed, but we were seated promptly, and our drinks order was taken toot sweet. Food came out at a good pace, and everything we ordered was delicious. Esp the coriander crusted ahi tuna...wow! What sealed the deal was I told the waiter it was hubby's b-day (as an excuse/reason to get dessert!) and when he brought the dessert out, he told us that while he wasn't a happy b-day singing kind of guy, he was happy that we chose Mezze to celebrate at. Nice people, nice place! We will definitely return."

"This was the first time we have dined at Mezze. We thought the food was great. We started with an appetizer platter with olives, hummus, eggplant, tubule and pita bread. It was beautifully presented and everything tasted great. I had the bouillabaisse and my husband had veal. Both dishes were delicious and filling. We finished with the sorbet which really topped off a great meal. We will go again especially on one of the days where they waive corkage. Service was friendly and timely."

"I love Mezze!! The food is consistantly good and everything on the menu is done with care. The Chicken on Bread Salad is the best chicken I have eaten in a restaurant. The wine list is good and very reasonable compared to other restaurants. The ony issue I have is with the wait staff. Some of them do not know the menu well at all and if you make a request during dinner they are likely to forget. All in all, it is still the best in the neighborhood and the prices are very fair. I can forgive the wait staff - they are all quite friendly - just to eat another serving of that wonderful chicken. Another dish to try is the Ahi Tuna on Isreali Couscous. Fabulous!"

"as always the food was wonderful... the service however was not, and that's an unfortunate change. Both the kitchen and waitstaff were overwhelmed. We like a gently paced meal, but 3 hours feels more like a 3 star in Paris than Lakeshore Drive in Oakland. No food appeared for 45 minutes, server did not know who ordered which dish, wine glasses not refilled, and we miss the white tablecloths of the past. Hope they can return to former excellence."

"The food was truly excellent. Unfortunately the service was slow; we ordered at 7:00 and even though the restaurant was only about half full, we didn't receive our entrees until 7:40. We had felt confident that we had allowed ourselves enough time to eat before an 8:00 commitment, but since the food came so late, we had to rush. We did enjoy talking with the owner while we were waiting (and waiting) for our food.

Hopefully this was a fluke. The first time we ate at Mezze we had no problem with the service. We plan to dine there again."

"I'm a regular at Mezze. The food is quite good and the atmosphere if very nice. The owner is always there and is attentive to customers. Asha, one of the waitresses, is fabulous. They have a monthly fixed price special of an ethnic region that is an amazing deal and a no corkrage benefit on those nights as well. It was Middle East this month that was very nice. This is a great neghborhood place."

"I've been to Mezze before and was impressed by the food. I don't know whether it was a off night for the chef and staff, but the food wasn't as good as I remembered it. We ordered the Roast Chicken dinner special and one of the specialty pizza's. We had the French Onion soup first and it was decent at best. The flavoring was almost non-existent. When we got the Roast Chicken, it was SUPER greasey. The pizza that followed didn't have any real flavor other then the meat pieces. The dough seems liked it wasn't fully cooked as well. I was also disappointed by the service since it took forever to order, get the food (not the server's fault of course), and get the check. I'm really easy to please but I will not be returning to say the least."

"Good news/bad news/good news. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant. Spectacular service-warm, prompt, friendly AND responsive. The decor is lovely. While deciding on to order for dinner we had wine and a bright and flavorful bruchetta. My husband selected the Pork Tenderloin Scaloppini with truffled creamed potato and Brussels sprouts. DELISH! I selected the Yellowtail served on a risotto cake with roasted fennel. Unfortunately, the fish was over-cooked and VERY fishy tasting-everything else was spot on! When our server,a delightful young woman, was told she immediately asked if I wanted the chef to prepare something else. I declined; opting to share my husband's meal-there was more than enough for two. No charge for the fish."

"This was my first time to Mezze, we were greeted by Maurice, the owner. the Decor was warm tones with wood, very comfortable. the service was great, the food fantastic, Rib eye steak and Kobe beef burger highly recommended! The wine was Downey family from Napa Valley , soft and oaky Cabernet! the music was excellent, first time I took notice of the music in a restaurant, not overpowering but enhanced the experience! There was nothing that I would say was a negative point about this restaurant, highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"We've been eating here for a few years, however when we arrived we noticed there were no white tablecloths and the layout was different. We thought uh oh, but the food was fresh, hot & delicious. The waiter was knowledgeable and honest in his recommendations. Loved the arugula and parm soup, scallops perfectly cooked. I'm relieved and thrilled that this place will stay on our list of dependably good restaurants in the neighborhood."

"To be fair, Mezze had their hands full the night we were there. Still, it was my birthday meal, and I wanted to eat somewhere I had never been. My husband made reservations and clearly stated it was my birthday, don't think the note was ever seen... we were sat at an EXTREMELY awkward, makeshift table in between the bar and the kitchen where my husband got bumped continually throughout the meal. Next up, the cheese on our salads was not feta as promised on the menu, it was either blue or gorgonzola and so strong that my husband couldn't eat it, his salad remained untouched. Nothing was said about it, no offer to get him something else, it was just removed when I was done with mine, without a word. Needless to say we took our desserts to go."

"The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. We were very surprised when we arrived. We weren't surprised after we had our food. My butternut squash risotto was horrible. My husband's mushroom bisque wasn't that great either, he also didn't think his pork tenderloin was good. I did like my tuna tartar, but they didn't give me enough of the wafers. "We have eaten at Mezze many times, and value it's convenience and ambiance. This time the food was mixed. The wild mushroom soup and Mezze Cesar salad were very, very good. The entrees were disappointing, and neither of us could finish them. The Moroccan chicken stew was overly salty, with too much clove and cinnamon. The overall effect lacked subtlety and left a bitter taste in the mouth. The lamb shishkebab was simply ordinary. Maybe an off night. We will give them another try sometime."

"The Morrocan four-course dinner featured this week was excellent. I could not believe the quantity and quality of the food we received at such a reasonable price! Others must agree since the restaurant was full on a Tuesday night. I'd highly recommend this restaurant anyway but their specialty dinners always deliver unique flavors which never disappoint---great for foodies who like to try something unique. Atmosphere and service is also top notch for a neighborhood spot---very friendly with the owners always present and engaged. Check the website for what you missed in 2009---hope they have more prix-fixe dinners in 2010. The free corkage on Tues. & Weds. is an added bonus!"

"We are foodies. Out of a group of 6, all thought their meal was fine but nothing special. Meals were moderately priced, tending toward small portions. Our service was so-so. Busboy was great, but our server was substandard as he provided no insight on the menu, had little personality and never checked on us so that we had to grab him twice when we wanted things. So when our bill came and a 20% tip was added as well as a separate line for tax on 20% tip that left a lasting impression. As there are so many other good choices in the area, we won't be back."

"We had a very good time. The server was very helpful, and the owner came and chatted with us - very friendly!
The food was wonderful and so was the wine and beer we ordered. I thought the prices were quite reasonable and the

"Mezze was once one of our favorites. Our meal 6 mos ago was still top notch. Alas, there seems to have been changes in the kitchen and not for the better. The great merguez pizza is now overloaded with cumin & cinnamon; the duck confit gnocchi could have doubled as dessert with a sauce so sweet it could have gone straight over ice cream. And what's with the faux-Italian bistro orecchiette pasta that resembled Olive Garden? Both desserts - orange creme brulee and chocolate bread pudding - were also way too sweet (and desserts were once one of their strongest points, as good as Lalime and the lamented MoNo)! Decaf cappuccino had the unpleasant edge of overroasting."
