RN74 - Seattle
The cuisine at RN74 aims to be a perfect complement to the wines – creative, modern, but simple interpretations of regional French cuisine. The restaurant features an expansive wine list created by Rajat Parr showcasing the best expressions of Burgundy, as well as featuring boutique wine producers from Washington and Oregon. The Seasonal "Market List" features ‘value' wines from all over the world. RN74 offers over 50 wines by the glass and an extensive collection of half bottles. RN74 is a rich, contemporary reinterpretation of the sociability, bustle and liveliness of the central train station in Burgundy, France combined with the rustic and warm allure of the earthiness and sensuality of winemaking and wine discovery. "We were looking for a nice dinner before a formal event. The environment was more on the casual side, but everything we ate was amazing, the cocktails were great, and the service was the best I've had of any Seattle restaurant. The sommelier was really nice and gave us a free tasting of another wine even after we had ordered. I definitely need to go back."

I think I've died and gone to heaven!! A definite must if you want to impress someone or just have a GREAT meal and experience."

"I went in hoping to be impressed with how good evverything is. I was more impressed with how OKAY everything was.
The service was good and attentive. The wine, a Bourdeau at 70.00, was terrible. It hadn't turned, although I sort of wish it had, it would have at least had some personality. This was just an off tasting red water. The Steward was kind enough to take it back and offer an alternative, which I still appreciate, but the second offering was the same as the first, with a different name.
we had the Ribeye for two, $100. The steaks were well prepared, good presentation, something about a huge steak baked inn a bread and salt crust that just get's one's juices going. It was wonderful.

"We tried RN74 during Seattle Week and enjoyed the food although the service was a bit slow. That time we were disappointed there was no duck on the menu. That, and wanting to have their amazing sorbet again, made us return with some friends in town from Australia. The food was really good this time around.The duck was cooked to perfection for me. The waitress said it would be medium rare and I think it was more on the medium side - but I was happy. The sorbet lived up to my memories - definitely the dessert of choice. Our meals were delayed but before we had time to say anything the waitress had apologized and brought us an appetizer to keep us occupied - tempura mushrooms and asparagus. Yum! Would definitely recommend this place."

"We love RN74 and they just updated the menu and their are new amazing items to enjoy! We tied the little tuna potato cakes and loved them!! The staff and the food are top notch which is difficult to find in a lunch scene which is when I usually go. Highly recommend it!!"

"Went for lunch, we waited 45 min for our food to come out. We were told the kitchen was backed up as we watch the lunch crowd slowly disappeared still without food on our table. The food was middle of the road, less quality than I expected, "food service of America" quality. Overall a disappointment. I don't think I would try it for dinner. I will stick with my consistent high end quality spot around the city."

"Our first experience at RN74 before the theater. As Eastsiders, we hadn't made it in until this week, but we will be back again (and again). Food and service were impeccable. Atmosphere was a bit noisy for a "romantic" occasion (our anniversary) but that seems to be the norm in restaurants now, so we just accept it! Wine list and servers' knowledge of it were both among the best we have experienced in Seattle. Great evening."

"The sliders were amazing!!!! DO NOT MISS THEM! I enjoyed the Tagliatelli, which was also excellent. The cheesecake bites desert was also pretty amazing! The newly added losbter pot pie, although deemed delicious, is not what you would expect in a pot pie. It is more of a lobster broil covered by some breading and cut and dished at the table. Odd. And just not what you expect to get when you order a pot pie. All in all, food was a success. Although, our bill for 4 people (which only included 6 drinks), came to about $400! SO I would definitely say a bit over priced!"

"I had lunch at RN 74, the ambiance was vivacious and sleek. The waiter was extremely considerate asking about time constraints -love it- when he had take our orders. Our table enjoyed the Tomato Fondue (ie an inventive way to serve tomato soup with grilled cheese), Fish & Chips, Chicken with mushrooms, and the lamb burger. All were visually appetizing. The two with the lamb burger and chicken were extremely happy with their meal. The cod was fair. We'd all definitely go back."

"The tables are so close together that we could fully hear the conversations of the tables on either side of us. We had no privacy to have our own conversation, which is why my husband and I go out to nice dinners in the first place. You actually have to move the table to be able to get in and out so you don't hit the table next you. It was extremely loud as well. The service and food were great, but we wouldn't go back based on the ambience. It's just too expensive to not be able to enjoy the meal alone."

"After reading recent reviews and hearing raving reviews by a family member who recently dined at RN74, I had high hopes for the food and for the service. Unfortunately both fell extremely short of my expectations. First of all, I made reservations for 3 at 830pm. Upon arriving at the restaurant a table was not ready, which was fine initially, but ended up standing in the restaurant entrance for approximately 15 min before we could visibly see a table being prepared. While my party and I stood in the waiting area the hostesses showed little concern for the excessive wait. There was only an obligatory, insincere apology given but otherwise we felt either ignored or just in the way. No options were offered, such as waiting at the bar."

"This was one if the best dining experiences in Seattle. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary s (both couples). The ambience, service, and interesting delicious food was perfect. "Lunch is terrific as they have their great regular options as well as a fresh sheet! Salads are my fave and I have been here 74 times for lunch (they kept count) and still love it because the service and food are always outstanding! Be sure to try and coconut lime sorbet or like ice cream, a must for a perfect finish to your meal!"

"we visited during restaurant week but I've been wanting to go for a while. There was a great buzz in the place and the I loved the decore. we were in a high booth, leather seats - very comfortable. We all ordered from the restaurant week menu - standouts were the potato and nettle soup (I know we were surprised too) and the most amazing sorbet ever. everything else was good but we'd go back just for that sorbet. I read a comment that said the servings were too small, but for me and the rest of my party they were just right. Service was pretty slow which they blamed on rest. week - not a very good excuse in my opinion - but luckily we weren't in a hurry. We'll be back to try the duck!"

"I would definitely recommend RN74. The service was very attentive and the staff was very knowledgeable about the dishes. It was lively but you can still have conversations at your table. I think the portions are a little off. I ordered the bone marrow appetizers and scallops entree. The marrow plate was huge and had three segments and a lot of bread. On the other hand, I only had 3 small scallop with a bit of cauliflower as an entree. However, the flavors and plating was definitely there.
One of my friends got the lobster pot pie served table side. It definitely seems worth if you are looking for a spurge."

"We arrived a little early and we ended up at the bar. This was not a bad location as we had a great bartender who was very attentive to our drinks and food. I enjoyed a beet salad and the roasted duck breast. The salad was very flavorful and the duck breast was cooked perfectly."

"RN74 was true to its concept of contemporary French. Their wine list is truly remarkable with old world selections and U.S. wine region favorites. We particularly enjoyed the beef bourginon, black cod, and ribeye encased in salt. Dessert was a true work of art - beignets and fried apple pie. The service was outstanding. We will be repeating our visit in the near future."

"We went here for the restaurant week, expecting it to be $28 for three courses like many other great ones we have tried. The food was good but added on fees were really sketchy- like additional $12 for certain entree and $4 more for dessert. Beware and read the fine prints if you order from the 'Seattle restaurant week menu". Don't think we would ever come back. There are too many great fine dining restaurants in Seattle that didn't need to pull sketchy stuffs like this. We would rather pay full price and eat elsewhere."

"Food, wine and service could not be better. Unfortunately, the tables are so small and so crowded together that it feels like you are seated at a communal table, not a high end restaurant. On the long line of bench seat/tables, it is easier to converse with the stranger sitting next to you than yelling across at your dining companion. If that is the intention, great, but that's not my idea of an enjoyable dinner. Unless I could be assured of a table with a little more space to separate us from the next table, I don't think I would return."

"This is not the place to come if you're seeking a quiet romantic dinner. The din coupled with middle-of-the-room row seating makes conversation a shouting match. Plus, the tables are extra wide so one is seated far away from one's dining companion. It's also not the place to dine if you don't like a limited menu that's heavy on fat or fried foods. Even the fingerling potatoes came individually wrapped in bacon! I will say that the staff responded to our concern about the noise level and moved us to a corner of the Chef's Table, a quieter spot but unfortunately with uncomfortable unpadded tall bar stools for seating. We skipped dessert as we had to get out of there. In summary, RN74 is a disappointing Michael Mina experience."
