Featuring 30 foot vaulted ceilings, four fireplaces, patio seating and a decor that takes you back to the era of Adirondack great camps, KANU offers an ambiance second to none in Lake Placid. Utilizing the finest local ingredients from Tucker Farms, Kilcoyne Beef, Northeast Family Co-op, Rulf's Orchard, South Meadow Farms and others, our culinary team creates menus that complement each season. "We are used to going out to very good restaurants and the food here was moderate at best. They try to put out there that they have high end fare and the food is really not good for the price. Spent 400.00 on dinner for 6 of us which is not a problem if one of us would have been happy with our meal. Would have been better off going downtown and having lighter fare for 1/4 of the price. Hotel is great though."

"The Lodge and ambiance are beautiful, however they sat us at a terrible table with a half full restaurant, apparently they were saving the nice tables for the guests who may show up and not the guests staying at the lodge and with a confirmed reservation on open table (The tables never did get filled). The food has a lot to be desired, scallops were mushy, chicken was terribly dry. garnish was soggy. They st us at an unset table while the set tables remained empty. Staff was friendly, but not experienced with fine dining which is what they try to pull off. Menu is VERY limited, 5 apps and 5 entrees, THATS it! with a limited menu the food needs to be excellent, it is not even close. We had breakfast at KANU also, it was terrible"

"Great buffet breakfast and menu breakfast! We ate from menu and buffet. Abundant portions! Buffet provides opportunity for guests to take what they will eat and the hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. We also had dinner with a group and every person enjoyed their meal with wine from the wine list - a red and a white - both very good."

"After being seated at a wobbly 4 top table by drafty doors by a waitress who was unsure of which menus to give us (and being told she'd return with a wedge to even out the table, which she did not) we asked our server if we could be moved to a 2 top near one of the fireplaces. The waitress said she'd have to ask the host. She returned and proceeded to move us to another 4 top table away from the door, still in the middle of the restaurant, away from either fireplace. We watched as three or four 2 person tables next to the fireplaces sat empty for at least the next hour or more. I have more examples, but no more room to type. So bottom line: the setting is lovely and the food is great but the service is not on par with the pricing."

"I will start off by saying, it's a little pricey, but the food is completely worth it. The food was fantastic! We had the special, rack of lamb, and it was cooked to perfection. The decor in the restaurant (and from what we saw at the Lodge) is absolutely gorgeous! If you love the rustic timber look, you will love the decor there. They have 2 large stone fireplaces in the restaurant (we sat right in front of one of them. They make sure the fire does not die down. We got there about 15 minutes early, and they sat us right away. If you get there really early, you can have a cocktail at their beautiful lounge (with 2 more fireplaces). I would love to go back there next time we are up in Lake Placid."
