"Brix was an OK restaurant in a city with great restaurants. None of the food was bad, yet nothing was noteworthy. The drinks were weak. The bill was high. Value wise, it was low. If somebody invited me to go here with them and they were picking up the tab- no problem- I'm there. However, I won't choose this place again for my money."

"Mother's day brunch buffet.
The good: bread pudding, waffles, polenta cake (under the eggs benedict).
The bad: hot food was not hot or even warm (including the polenta cake, but it was still delicious).
The ugly: menu card said the smoked salmon was supposed to be served with "buttered brioche" that wasn't out. Asked one of the "chefs" about it. He said "Oh, looks like I forgot to put that out" and disappeared to kitchen. Waited 5 minutes. Chef came back out with a basket of crackers and set them next to the smoked salmon. Me: "Excuse me, were you bringing out the brioche?" Him: "Yeah--it's out." Me: "You mean those crackers?" Him (a bit surly): "Yeah" as he scrambled away, bumping into a server. Huh?"

"Normally I have a good experience. This time was poor. We waited 20 mins before anyone came over to check on us. I had to flag down a sever to even order a drink.

"We ordered the fried calamari, lemon, and rock shrimp as an appetizer, and for $11, we ended up with maybe 6-8 piece of calamari, 4 slices of lemon, and 3 piece of shrimp. HUGELY disappointing. Portions were even smaller for dinner than happy hour. I ordered the clams, and they were all right--they had two gigantic piece of grilled bread on top drowned in butter. I wasn't pleased with the food, but the atmosphere was good."

"We brought my mother and sister to Easter brunch based on the reviews we had read and because we were able to make a reservation, this was our first time dining here. The Brix staff were going to seat us in the dining area which was bright and inviting, but a little crowded and noisy for our guests. They graciously adjusted their reservation for us and seated us in a quieter space. The chef prepared a nice variety of dishes, there was something special for each of us, vegetarian dishes, fruit, salads, ham, roasts and a wonderful waffle bar. The rum raisin bread pudding was a big hit at our table.
The true stars of the experience were the wait staff. They were efficient, friendly, attentive and very welcoming."

"We really enjoyed our food and had a great time with our friends! The only drawback was that we were seated right beside the bar and customers were standing right behind my husband and kept bumping into him and/or his chair. "Our first visit for dinner, we both had the special for that night, New York Strip Steak with a crab cake, both delicious. We love food and we love to try new places, however the prices here seem a bit high. The dinners don't come with soup or salad, no problem. Bt $7 for a relatively small side salad seemed a bit steep. "Great food, a great place for groups. Noisy so not a great place for romantic, quiet conversations. You have several different staff waiting on you at different times so if you have a request communication can become discombobulated. For example when we ordered two beers, waited ten minutes and ask a staff about its whereabouts, to find the staff that took our order to figure things out.I would recommend this place for the food, but not necessarily for the service."

"Had a reservation for 7:45 but our party wasn't seated until 8:30. Manager brought fondue to the table as a courtesy for the long wait, but later we discovered we were billed for it. Service was slow, especially as the evening wore on. No one ever asked if we wanted more drinks or refilled water after the food came. We were told a special listed online was no longer available and the waitress made a big deal of having to get special dispensation to offer it to our party. Service seemed to go downhill from there."

"Brix is kind of like an upscale Applebee's or TGI Fridays; a better comparison would be Henry's Tavern (also in the Pearl District): American comfort food with occasional unique ingredients. My partner and I are not vegetarians, but the menu is heavy on meat entrees. Side salads were enjoyable. Wine selections were plentiful/interesting, but draft beer selections were not.
We went mid-evening on a Saturday, and we're glad we made reservations, as the place was very busy. And loud. They certainly do good business, but it's very open and loud, which is why we don't consider Brix a romatic locale. We're glad we checked it out, and our food was decent, but we don't know what was special that would make us want to return."

"Arrived just before 6:30 and was surprised to be able to enjoy happy hour. Tried several items and was nicely impressed. Highlights were the ribs and the chips & pork/cheese dip. Food came out super fast, quick service in general for a fairly busy Saturday night. We will certainly return on future visits to Portland."

"Went for a rare date night with my husband. The cocktails were tasty. Salad was okay, but you know just a salad. The steak was really tough. Mashed potatoes were okay, but nothing special. Finally, the creme brûlée crust was too thick and hard for my taste, I think it should be a light crisp. Plus, who puts whipped cream on a creme brûlée...like trying to make up for something."

"Was terrific for a light pre-theater meal - Quick service- excellent happy hour pricing - and high quality food....The noise level was too high for us - we were shouting at one another across the table - and that's where we'd have a criticism....but realize that high noise is a selling point now ... maybe just not for folks over 60...which we are....If this restaurantant and others like it could have some areas where quiet was possible, it would be an asset."
