"Mother's Day at Pomme was busy, but we were never rushed and enjoyed a relaxed and delicious lunch. The prosecco aperitif was a generous pour; the Bordeaux by the glass better by far than most wines by the glass and the refreshing house Virginia Chardonnay is a bargain! The house salad with its hint of slightly mustard vinaigrette transported me back to France. My rack of lamb was superb: done to perfection and plated attractively. My husband's sole with Meuniere sauce was not up to the lamb. Lemon tart with basil sauce and a garnish of blueberries surpassed expectations with the basil sauce adding the perfect flavor foil for the wonderfully intense lemon tart. The chef made several personable appearances! Great value."

"The first time I visited Pomme, it was so bad I vowed never to return. My lady friend talked me into a second visit and it was better. Service was pedestrian -- hello, my name is .... -- but the food was generally good. A cold asparagus soup was outstanding. Fried oysters as an appetizer were perfectly cooked. A melted brie and avocado appetizer was exceptional.
My lady ordered scallops and I chose duck breast. Her scallops were rich and creamy and cooked just enough. My duck breast was a tad overdone, not red in the middle, and a maple tinged sauce needed a little acid for balance. Both entrees came with broccoli that was grossly overcooked and rice that was so underdone that it was not edible. We did not order dessert."

"NOT our first or last visit to Pomme -- a true Country French gem!! We have dined there several times for lunch, brunch, and dinner. The service is ALWAYS great, the food is perfect and never rushed, and the overall experience is one of the best. The dining room only has about a dozen tables (for 4 each), but there is a larger space next door for groups or parties. Our soup was the best pea soup ever, and our entrees were a fantastic beef, onion & cheese tart over fresh greens and pork armagnac with apples & vegetables. YUM-O!!! We had to share since we both loved both of the dishes. Folks should NOT wait for a special occasion to visit Pomme. We will definitely visit again soon - it's a shame we have not returned before now."

"Pomme has been a favorite since we discovered it on a trip several years ago. We hadn't been back that way in a few years, but found it as good as ever. The salade landaise is a delicious meal in itself, chock-a-block with a variety of interesting tidbits the menu promises; onion soup here is perfectly "comme il faut:" a rich broth, plenty of onion, and a cheese topping that complements, rather than overwhelms, the dish. A nice hearty fish soup and a plate of fried oysters with salad were also excellent. Last, the addition of a light basil reduction to the lemony sauce on the lemon tart was brilliant.
Service was excellent and accommodating; the tasteful decor tops everything off."

"As a semi-regular, I find the food to be consistently good. The presentation has greatly improved thru the years, and the wait staff is on their toes and happy to please. The chef ( and owner ), when time allows, is on the floor checking on the diners and happily greeting friends, old and new, and to answer any questions. . The sommelier (also an owner) is quite knowledgeable and happy to make suggestions. We have always been pleased with the recommendations. it is a delight to have this restaurant in the "neighborhood"."

Some service staff was inexperienced, so there were a couple of minor fumbles. It was a full house when we visited, so the waiter was kept very busy. "Restaurant Pomme is a high quality French/European restaurant in an unlikely setting, the small town of Gordonsville, VA. The Sunday brunch has a very extensive menu with not only breakfast items, but things you could easily make a Sunday dinner. We opted for two salad dishes that were excellent--well-prepared and just the right-sized serving. Service was fast and friendly and the owner is very much in charge, visiting each table. The decor is warm and inviting and the interior quiet and conducive to conversation."

"This restaurant presents an attractive exterior and a bright, cheery decor with attractive colors and a unique charm. The fare is delectable, whether one opts for the salad and exquisite butternut and apple soupe, creamy and smooth, prepared as only the French can prepare it or the scrumptious poulet dijonnaise, a lightly breaded chicken breast, seasoned to perfection, tender enough to melt in your mouth, drizzled with a delicate dijon mustard sauce and served with a rice and vegetable medly. Of course those are only a couple of the choices listed on their bill of fare. Do not dismiss any offering--each would be an excellent choice. Also, the wait staff are knowledgeable and reliable with their recommendations."

"My husband and I ate here for our anniversary. It was a wonderful little romantic spot. I ordered the duck which was amazing and my husband had the veal which left something to be desired. "One of the top few restaurants in the Charlottesville area. That is quite a complement in my view because the restaurants in C'ville just keep getting better every year. "Pomme is one of our favorite places to celebrate. The Chef is fabulous and friendly. The food is amazing. Almost every time we go, I plan ahead what I want to order, and then the waiter shares the specials of the day and I always try something new and it always satisfies. I love the local artists who are given space to display in the restaurant. The wine list is excellent. We are fortunate to have such a lovely restaurant out in the country."

"The positive: the food was terrific as was the service that accompanied it.
The negative: the wine list was on the pricy side of the equation. One should never consider a French meal, or any meal for that matter, without wine as an accompaniment. However, the wine list that was offered did not provide enough of a selection of wines of a "modest" price range."

"We've eaten here twice, once for lunch and once for a big celebration we hosted for 9 people. The lunch was excellent, but the dinner was simply good. As for the dinner, the taste of the dishes was pleasant, but the sole was overcooked, the veal was a little tough. No one was dissatisfied, but no one was wowed. The service was extremely slow and the wait staff neither friendly nor unfriendly. In other words, we did not feel welcomed, The owner/maitre'd in a small town restaurant often comes by your table during the evening, but this one did not. Will I go again? Not sure. We went with high expectations based on its reputation and our lunch there, but those expectations were disappointed."

"This is the second time my wife and I have been to the Pomme. It is a short drive from where we live and we are lucky to have a fine dinning restaurant close by. The food is excellent and there is no fixed menu day in and day out. You can expect fresh ingredients used in every dish. The restaurant serves french dishes without using heavy sauces. The portions are small however and we usually order an appetizer and an entree. The prices are very good for this caliber of restaurant. The wine list is extensive and you can find great wine for a great price. We would definitely recommend this lovely gem."

"We ate dinner here for Valentine's Day. The tables were decorated with two colors of cloth sprinkled with real rose petals and a small vase on the table held a single red rose. The food was beautiful, tasteful, with clever combinations. The five-dessert sampler was yummy, except for the creme brulee, which was disappointing. We were seated in the side cafe area, which was a little too cold, although the owners tried a couple of times to put the thermostat higher. But the lighting was good. The music was wonderful until the couple closest to the stereo complained it was too loud--too bad, cause it was really nice. At the end, I got a long-stemmed red rose to take home. All delicious and charming. Special occasion expensive."

"We had heard good things about Pomme, and were somewhat disappointed. We had seen the menu on-line and anticipated a great experience. We found the food to be over-sauced and nothing special. Our server seemed inexperienced, although he tried hard. The ambiance of the main room seemed cozy and warm, but we were placed in a side room, which was rather bland. The mitigating factor was that it was Valentines evening, the menu was limited and it was jam packed (we did have reservations).
We will give it another try on a more normal evening."

"This is a fine restaurant in the most unlikely of locations. We have been delighted to discover it because it is on the way from Richmond to one of our destinations. The food is creatively prepared and presented and always top quality. The greens in my salad were "gourmet" in quality and the pork tenderloin was delicious."
