"3 buddies any I had THE WORST dinner here. My friend's scallops smelled super fishy (i.e., off). My vegan friend's vegetable plate was inedible (you couldn't even bite through the root vegetables...and we tried). My last friend's pasta dish was cold and undercooked. My steak was impossible to chew, but I developed a strong mandible trying.
We informed our server of the bad food, not expecting anything, it wasn't her fault. the manager came over and offered us free desserts. We passed. The last thing we wanted was more (bad) food.
It was odd that ALL FOUR plates were horrible. Not sure if it was the perfect storm of bad food, but this was literally the worst food we've all had in years."

"This restaurant came very highly recommended and fell far short of expectations. The very expensive chef's choice collection of meats, cheeses and pickles weren't better than I can assemble myself while shopping--was that Boar's Head Genoa salami? I think they're selling at a high price to people who don't cook an idea of rustic, authentic food. Dessert in a jar..."

"Farmer's Cabinet has long been my favorite spot for date nights and drinks with the girls, and I recently took a large group for dinner and drinks. They are completely committed to their theme, down to the mason jarred candles suspended from the ceiling, the barrel tables at the bar and big wooden benches at the back, and the Saturday night brass band with tuba and banjo. But this place is definitely not dowdy! There's an extensive beer list, unique and yummy cocktails, and the bartenders are wonderfully creative. Name any odd ingredient you like, and they can invent a delicious cocktail! In addition, the food is absolutely spectacular. Even simple things like the chicken are amazing. I've only had comparable chicken at Felidia in NYC."

"Locally sourced food should be more flavorful ; cocktail servers should know the differences in brands of bitters. Venison had no flavor...smoked lamb tasted like, well, smoke. Cheese plate offering was mediocre.
When one member of a party declines dessert, shouldn't others be asked?
Lousy food. ; indifferent service."

"This place has a great atmosphere but the food was really disappointing. My fiancé and I ordered a charcuterie and cheese plate, one entree, and two cocktails and the bill was over $90. The charcuterie plate had 2 VERY small slices of cheese and was mainly made up of their pickled vegetables - not worth $25. The entree was good but still overpriced. I don't mind paying a lot for memorable food but definitely didn't get that here."

"Great place to meet people in the city. Extensive beer list and great hand-crafted cocktails. If you are looking for a quieter place, ask to be seated upstairs in the traditional room. And don't miss the chef's tasting plate as an appetizer. I would definitely return the next time I am in Phili."

"took my brother for dinner Sunday night as a birthday present because he makes beer and I knew Farmer's Cabinet had an extensive beer list. We both enjoyed the food and my brother loved the beers. by time we were having dessert there was a musical duo with a wonderful bluegrass sound. It just added to the ambiance."

"Great atmosphere, awesome cocktails, yummy food, SLOW (but very nice) service. Been here twice and the experience was similar both times. The slow service isn't enough to stop me going back, but now I order my drink as soon as a waitress comes by and then peruse for my second one."

"Love the local, fresh feel of the menu and offerings. Service was excellent. If you come as a party of two you may be sitting on a bench and at a table with others, so it may not be best for intimate dates. The meat choices and flavors were impeccable. The vegetables were fresh, however, not cooked appropriately on either my nor my husband's meal. The root vegetables I had were not cooked all the way through. Hard potatoes are not for me, though the flavors were good. The brussels sprouts cooked in duck fat, were not cooked thoroughly, just tossed in what seemed and tasted like a little oil and served. There was not a lot of flavor on them and as crunch as they are raw."

"The Farmer's Cabinet is really a drinking spot. The atmosphere is lively, fun ambiance and decor. Our server went out of his way to help our party select beverage and dinner selections to suit everyone's preference. The food could be better; quail stuffed with duck sausage was dry. Vegetables were excellent. Bench seating may be difficult for some. Overall I would recommend this restaurant, but with caution for foodies."

"This was my 2nd visit. The first was outstanding, great service, all of our meals and drinks were amazing and it was worth a repeat visit. The 2nd time - the server was not friendly, the options were very limited and not flexible for a vegetarian, and the food was only ..ok. Great atmosphere, and a very unique menu fit for a foodie, but consistency does not seem to be in cards for this place."

"We selected the Farmers' Cabinet because of very positive reviews. We wanted an eatery close to the Walnut Street Theatre so we could entertain our out of town guests before the show. We selected the quiet room. One of our guests wears hearing aides. Our reservation was for 6 p.m. It was perfect but by 7:30 p.m. when we finished dinner and were ready to walk three blocks to the theatre, the room had become very noisy. I am glad we had earlier reservations. We look forward to dinner again soon at the Farmers' Cabinet... great beers and drinks."

"Cool, hip atmosphere for sure. Food is nothing special…and very overpriced. Cocktail menu seemed intriguing, however, what I ordered was 'eh'. Brought out wrong day's dessert menu but very kindly corrected it…only to then bring out wrong dessert ordered--which had NUTS in it!!! Still very kind and removed charge from final tab. :) LOVED the ambiance but would not return based on the aforementioned, namely price points."

"They have a great vibe when you walk in, however if you are older and need a back to your chair, request one. Mostly bench seating. This also makes it great if you have a large party! The food was good. Not the kind of food that you are dying for more, but definitely worth it. Wish more of their specialty drinks revolved around vodka, but no such luck. The service was good, the only glitch was we waited a bit for small plates to share our cheese and meat tray."

"We were there early before the theater and so the restaurant got more crowded as the evening went on. Wonderful selection of beers as well as great specialty cocktails. We enjoyed all the courses including dessert. Had a great time. Didn't mind at all sharing the bench style table seating for 6 with just one other couple at the far end."

"Food and drinks were fantastic. There were four of us dining and we each had two cocktails, picking a different one each time. They are proud of their Old Fashioneds. This is my husband's drink of choice and he said it was terrific.
For appetizers we went with the Bavarian Pretzel (very good!), the Chef's Tasting of cheese and charcuterie and I had to try the Saffron Duck Eggs (terrific!) . I am typically not a fan of pickles, but the Kirby Chips that came with the chef tasting were amazing. For dinner I had the Quail stuffed with Duck Sausage. I highly recommend it. The scallops, venison and the short ribs were also very good. We will definitely go back!"

"The cocktails are imaginative and too numerous to count but Kate, our awesome server, recommended to my partner the ‘Smoke and Rice’ cocktail which is made of bluecoat gin, aalborg aquavit, lemon and smoked paprika on the rocks. It was sublime – delicious! I don’t like gin – but this is a drink I could have swilled too much of easily. I had an Original Sin hard cider. While waiting for our dining companions to arrive, we ordered the Chef’s Tasting Plate which was two cured meats, two pickled choices and two cheeses with garnishes that came on a piece of black slate. Perfect for two to share on a date night before ordering the II and III courses. We then ordered 3 of the cheeses, 3 of the cured meats and 6 of the pickles for the four o"

"Farmers Cabinet is an awesome bar/restaurant. It's like a 20's themed placed, and they did a great job designing it. Drinks are all of that era, and they have a fantastic drink list. It is a bit pricey, but worth the atmosphere. Live 20s jazz music on weekends as well!"

"The food was really good and the ambiance was great. It was definitely pretty noisy. The only disappointment we had was our server, she was very unfriendly. We could barley hear her and had to ask her to repeat things or speak up. Everyone else that approached us was very friendly and easy to hear. Apart from our service we were very pleased and would recommend the restaurant."

"Small portions. Overpriced menu options. Lackluster menu selection. "Oxtail" ravioli had the consistency and flavor of frozen pierogis. Extremely disappointing. Decor is trying way to hard to portray a period/theme restaurant. Service was fair but inconsistent. I will say they have a stellar beer menu. They could benefit by expanding their wine selection. Overall, I suggest if you are up for trying something new, you never know, it could be up your alley. But from someone who dines frequently at critically acclaimed restaurants all over, this establishment is nothing to be desired."

"Going to The Farmers Cabinet was like taking a step in time to the 1920's. With it's urban rustic decor I felt like I was in an oldtime Speak Easy. The service was good and friendly and the Food was outstanding and certainly not run of the mill. The Quail stuffed with Duck sausage was inventive and delicious! The Braised Short Ribs were the tastiest I ever had! The Craft Beer list was extensive and offered many catagories of fine beers. To top it off, the Live Entertainment featured a band straight out of Boardwalk Empire. Rudy Vallee would be proud! Whether you go as a couple or a group, I'm sure you will enjoy The Farmers Cabinet!"

"Was there on Saturday night for a 9pm table of 8 - it was busy, but obviously the auto tip for tables of 6 or more means that the service staff don't have to bother turning up. From meals missing to bottles of wine plonked in ice buckets unopened on the table, to waitress walking away mid order (multiple times) and decidedly average food on the night - it was a low point of Philadelphia dining. This is a great bar so maybe it should stick to the beer and cocktail thing and ignore the small dining room."

"Food was great. Some not so traditional plates for the more adventurous eaters. Excellent drinks- wide beer selection & interesting cocktails. Very cool ambiance, it felt like an old western saloon. Some down falls- our waitress was around a lot in the beginning when we didn't want her there, and then she was absent when we needed her. Noise level was really loud, like cafeteria loud. Not so great for a date or intimate conversation. We dined in the back room, which felt tight and stuffy. I was overheating although other members of my party didn't think it was too hot."

"My Girlfriend and I had Valentine's day reservations and were seated quickly. Our server was knowledgable about the food and the specialty drinks. A candle was lit on our table and there was a rose in a tall thin vase. The lighting was perfect and the decor was excellent.
The food was very good (4 courses) but the service was a bit slow. Specifically, our water glasses were not refilled frequently enough and we were not given spoons with our desserts so we used our forks until we were able to get our server's attention. I think the mistakes may have happened because of the pressure of serving on a busy Valentine's day, so I would certainly give the Farmer's Cabinet another shot. The specialty drinks are unique, classy, and delicious."

"This was our second visit to The Farmers' Cabinet and will be our last. The first time we went, we were seated upstairs away from the bar at a quiet table for the two of us (we are in our early 60's). This time they seated us downstairs at a glorified picnic table right behind the bar where it was noisy and rather uncomfortable on the picnic benches. I ordered soup and my husband some cheese as appetizers; my soup came out to the table about 15 minutes before my husband got his cheese, so I ended up finishing my soup rather than have it get cold. My husband's "strip" steak was a round steak and served rare (he had ordered medium rare); his vegetables and potatoes were cold and crunchy. This was not a $100 meal!"

"We were not especially pleased with our experience. We were early diners, thus the restaurant was not that busy during most of our meal. Our waiter would ask questions, but then not follow up regarding our responses. We were not asked if we wanted coffee (we did)but it took quite awhile to have it served after we finally asked. Our bread was not refreshed after the basket was empty. It seems to be a place for hanging out (it is a cute place!)rather than the "farm to table" premise that was indicated on the website. Food portions were rather small, and there were very limited non-meat dishes for diners who might be observing Lenten Fridays."

"Went here to celebrate the Saturday after Valentines Day thinking it might be a little less crazy, which didn't really turn out to be the case. We were seated at a table for six, so halfway through another couple joined us--which is a bit awkward. I guess family seating part of their ambiance, although personally the cans, mason jars, various antiques lead the place a hilariously contrived vibe. My only other complaint is their prohibition style cocktails--again, contrived, and also people drank these things during prohibition because they didn't have better options. Not necessarily something to idealize. BUT. The food is quite good, the beer list is amazing, and the server, though spread a little thin, was helpful and fairly attentive."
