JUNGSIK offers a modern and unique Korean cuisine by innovative Chef Yim whom the New York Times has christened "The Pioneer of Modern Korean." This landmark Seoul experience is now offered at his TriBeCa flagship (former Chanterelle space), where bold flavors and playful culinary offerings abound. Jungsik brings the innovations of French cuisine and new Spanish movements into the Korean realm while staying true to big and bold familiar flavors of Korea.
"We have been to a LOT of really wonderful and fine restaurants. We chose Jungsik as part of our amazingl marathon of graduation celebrations for ourson and the participating large family. They made us feel like GOLD. They went OUT OF THE WAY to do things right and make the group feel special. The food was incredible and even though it is eclectic, it was truly delicious and beautifully served. The service was out of this world. They do things right! This is a wonderful find! Bravo, Jungsik!"

"Jungsik is a hidden gem, housed in the old Chanterelle space in Tribeca; it bears no resemblance to Chanterelle physically, but the quality of food, service and ambience is just as world-class as its predecessor. I would describe Jungsik as Korean-meets-Per Se...inventive dishes, gorgeous presentation, quietly attentive staff, and a large number of amuse bouches that were unexpected and delicious, each and every one.
Definitely a great place for an expense account occasion...Jungsik is expensive but worth every dollar!"

"This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend for my anniversary dinner. I made a reservation through open table and in the comments section let the restaurant know it was an anniversary dinner. Opun our arrival, they printed a special Happy Anniversary menu for us to keep and complimentary champagne.
The food was exquisite, outstanding, phenomenal, etc. I frequently eat korean food and Jungsik's take on modern Korean Cuisine was excellent. There were authentic Korean flavors and foods used with a modern and new twist. I highly recommend Jungsik."

"What an incredible dinner! We had the tasting menu, and were pleasantly surprised with the flavours of each dish. Service was outstanding, and the ambiance was great. The wine list is extensive, with many wines sourced directly from vineyards from all over the world."

"Perfect in every aspect---unique and delicious. Every course of the tasting menu was an adventure ( portions were appropriately small and well spaced) and the wine match was exciting and inventive. Service was impeccable and ambience a dream. My best all-around dinner in NY City in years. Only slight negative--VERY pricy; including tax and tip $675 for 2."

"Thank you for making us feel comfortable & welcomed to your exquisite restaurant. The food was so precisely prepared & so beautifully presented. Having grown up in an Italian family, I was not sure whether I would care for Korean cuisine. It was delicious! It was the best Octopus & Oysters that I have ever had. Even my son, who does not eat any kind of fish, loved the Octopus. We had the tasting menu which was comprised of a variety of dishes, one was better than the other. I would highly recommend the tasting menu as the way to dine at Jungsik for your first experience. I can't wait to go back with the rest of our family & friends & try more dishes. Compliments to all the Chefs who worked so hard to make the evening a memorable experience!"

"Interesting take on traditional Korean ingredients and flavors, I was especially delighted by how the Chef changed the Green Tea Cremeux. We asked if we could get two different tasting menus (they usually have only one) prior to our reservation- they were extremely accommodating and the Chef whipped up another menu so that we could try as many of his dishes as possible during our dinner."

"Excellent food, ambiance. Our group truly enjoyed the dining experience.
If you go, hopefully you'll be so lucky as to have Hak Soo as your server. He really went above and beyond to make the dining experience even more memorable."

"Absolutely spectacular food, hands down a square mile better than Le Bernardin. The dishes were inventive, beautifully presented, the service impeccable - attentive but unobtrusive and professional but friendly. I really couldn't fault a single thing about the whole meal except that I didn't like their blend of coffee!"

"I rarely write reviews unless compelled to do so - good or bad. Jungshik was an absolutely divine experience. A day before, I got a courtesy call to confirm reservation & was asked if it was for any special occasion. I booked it for my husband's birthday & they asked for his name. I thought they may give him a special call out. But the way they delicately serviced us (incl. a special menu with his name on, a special seaweed dish for a traditional Korean birthday & happy birthday-written dessert) was an absolute A+. The staff was extremely professional & friendly, the food was beyond description - extremely creative but deliciously so. We had 10-course tasting menu but I have to say it was definitely more than 10 - more likely 20!"

"Great place with wonderful food. Others have complained that you can probably get larger portions of more authentic Korean food for less - but we thought the food was just divine - a nice upscale interpretation of Korean food with sensible portions. The rice dish with crispy pork belly was wonderful, so was the arugula and tomato sorbet - kind of a cold salad dish. Wow."

"Due to horrendous traffic, we were over an hour late for our reservation. The Maitre'd could not have been nicer and we were made feel welcome and therefore relaxed in minutes. This is wonderful fine dining and the food should be enjoyed at leisure. The tasting menu looked appealing but we were too jet lagged to attempt 10 courses!"

"Fantastic birthday dinner. Love that all the dishes come in half or full portions for tasting. Had the best octopus ever as a starter, as well as fresh sea urchin on seaweed and fried quinoa on top. For the main, I had lobster in butter with raspberry coulis, and as a person who never orders lobster, it was worth it! My wife had veal cheek, and I wish I could've tried it but she loved it. It lives up to the reviews. The service is attentive nice and knowledgeable. A great meal."

"The folks at Jungsik are doing something special with Korean cuisine. All the traditional dishes and flavors are represented, but in very creative forms. Do not go expecting high-end Korean bbq, as this will not resemble that in any way. All the dishes were beautifully presented and the tastes/flavors were spot on. This is a great place."

"Not the Korean food you are used to, but the haute version of it. There are some of the spicy flavors of Koreatown but you with all of the elegance and pampering you might have at the great temples of food in NYC."

"Given the reviews I read I was expecting a lot from Jungsik.Instead what I got was very little. The food was okay at best. The restaurant itself was extremely expensive in relation to thequality of the food. I was expecting that the portions of food fromThe tasting menu would be small but I did not expect that every plate would be tiny. In addition the waiter had the nerve to Comment to us twice that we were "eating very fast". With one to three bites of food per plate I was actually savouring everymouthful. Not a good experience."

"I took my husband for his birthday and we both loved the experience! We had a tasting menu and they accommodated out dietary restrictions (no meat, only seafood). The food was outstanding! The service was perfect. The wine pairings were great and the sommelier gave great detail with each selection.
It is very expensive but truly worth the experience. We will definitely go again."

"This was a surprise home run. Complex and interesting, but really pleasurable, meal from cold appetizer through dessert. Food is at the highest level NY has to offer, although we did not try the 10-course tasting menu. Service not quite there -- it's friendly and capable, but for the most part a notch below the kitchen. The issues raised in Pete Wells February 2012 review (occasional dullness and pretension in food and over-formal, pretentious service) seem to have been addressed. One thing that hasn't changed from February 2012, apparently, are the amuses-bouches, which are still for the most part dull."

"My wife and i were lucky enough to get a reservation somewhere last minute on Saturday. Contemplated going with the tasting menu, but decided to do the their "choice" menu since we didn't know what to expect from "modern korean". we started with the fried oysters, then the pork belly raymon, and then i had the pork jowels and my wife had the cod. We finished off dinner with the strawberry cremeaux dessert. Everything was amazing, and we slightly regretted not doing the tasting menu (partly b/c I was still a little bit hungry... even the large portions aren't that large). Service was fantastic- our waiter, Ben, was very helpful guiding us through the menu options, and had a great personality.
We will definitely be back with friends!"
