Jane's
Opened in 1994, Jane's is a quaint Bucktown eatery, specializing in fresh, clean foods, with several vegetarian options. We are open Tuesday-Sunday evenings, with a great Friday lunch. We serve a wonderful brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 8-2:30p.m. We have a beautiful party room, and specialize in celebrations! We're known in Chicago for being one of the city's most romantic dining spots.

"The best thing about Jane's is that they are a cute little neighborhood spot where you can get pretty good food at pretty good prices. The problem with Jane's is that they are that they are forgetting what it means to be a neighborhood place. They are rude, the service is terrible, and their policies on their specials, their treatment of us when we wanted to bring in a stroller or car seat to an EMPTY restaurant, and the like, make us look for other neighborhood places now. Jane's can be left to those who don't care how they are treated. This is not based on an isolated event but many recent occasions."

"Early, pre-theater dinner on a Saturday evening before the crowds. Greta was lovely, attentive, and helpful. The food was creative. Gazpacho would have been better had it not been completely pureed; the dish needs some crunch. Lovely classic Caeser. My scallops were perfect: seared on the outside and just barely cooked on the inside. My lady love's strip steak was tender, just as ordered. Nice well constructed vegetable melange accompanied both dishes. Love the wine pricing policy for which every glass and every bottle (except for the premium stuff) was the same price. We sat in the window: my favorite spot."

"We went to Jane's about 5 months ago and had a wonderful dinner. This time around we took my in laws and I was greatly embarrassed to have chosen this place. Poor service - our server never smiled and was very curt. Food was so so. Nothing great and I surely will not go back to Jane's. I am wondering if the chef or management has changed."

"Friend's who hadn't been to Jane's in years thought it might be nice to try again as they loved it way back when. Maybe because so many new places have opened since then, they forgot to go back but without a doubt, it was worth it and will be one of our regular places again.
The food was outstanding, loved the atmosphere (apparently a great date night place) and the drinks and service. Can't recommend this place enough...!"

"I thought the ambience was awesome. Cute little place and the room in the back where they put groups is very cute. My waitress was kind and funny. My drinks were delicious. The 2 issues I have is that it took 45 minutes for our food to come and it was brunch, eggs/pancakes, come on, how long does that take. Also when I asked another waitress to get our waitress, she was very rude. My blueberry pancakes were okay, they should come with maple syrup also. My friends did enjoy their food so maybe I just order the wrong thing. I will give it another try because it is a cute place, the drinks are good, and MY waitress was cool."

"We went for brunch on mother's day. Both my wife and myself had dined at Jane's in the past many years ago.
We both had enjoyed our prior experience. The ambiance/decor is nice - the place has character. We have no complaints about our service.
But, this time we were both disappointed with the food. The food was not made to order.
My wife had gummy pancakes. I had a soggy overcooked omelet. The sides were atrocious.
A glob of mashed potatoes placed on the plates with an ice cream scoop. The bizarre "sausages" that were rubbery little disks with grill marks. I felt that this was lazy cooking and they can do much better."

"After bragging to my newly transplanted sister that Jane's was a great find, we followed the server's recommendations on some entrees (Cuban Thai Salmon Stew, for example) and were disappointed that the food was just average. The cheese plate was very good, as it had been in the past--enough variety and substance as an appetizer--and in the past, the burrito was outstanding."

"Took my parents to celebrate Easter and was so disappointed in the food. I've enjoyed dinner at Jane's since moving to the neighborhood in '07 and was surprised to find their breakfast was so rustic. The food was tasty, but just not appealing to the eye and I felt like my parents might have enjoyed Meli or Orange more.
Since we were the first reservation, we had the restaurant to ourselves for most of the morning, but the jazz music was playing at a level that made it difficult for us to focus on chatting with each other at the 4-top table.
The service was impeccable - our waitress could not have been nicer or more attentive."

"This was our second time and it was just as delicious as the last time. I had the steak. It was cooked exactly how I asked. To start with we had the cheese plate and it was fabulous. Our server was nice, just the right amount of attention. She gave us time to enjoy our wine and cheese before ordering our Entrees. I like it when I'm not rushed. Will definitely be going back!!"

"Much better this time than the last. I was not going to return after being seated an hour after our reservation last time...but I had a Groupon I wanted to use. We had a much better experience. The atmosphere is always great, the food very good. The only area lacking all times is the service. Kind of okay by the "Wait Staff". At least the hardworking Staff Supporters were helpful when the Server never returned many times...All in all, a very good place with great, cozy atmosphere!"

"The food was absolutely delicious but the service unfortunately left a bad taste in my mouth. Before being seated, the waitress went to grab the menus and then abruptly turned to me and asked if we had Groupons, we didn't and so she also grabbed the list of specials. Awkward first impression. They don't allow any substitutions, I was told the kitchen was too small (even though it was just cheese and the restaurant was half empty). To top it off, I was charged full price for my meal even though it was on special that night. Not a great overall experience."

"Good food, tasted great, healthy, average portions. MUST make a reservation and be on time! We scored a window seat and it was very quaint to sit there. It was loud that brunch on a SUN, tho. Don't know if that was normal, or if it was the shower party. I'm going back for the dinner menu!"

"Every time I go to Jane's and want to order a wine, my first and second choice usually are sold out. It's happened on weekdays as well as weekends..That is very disappointing that they don't keep a better watch on their inventory. The corn chowder is excellent but has thinned out a little this last time. The black grouper is amazing!"

"Jane's markets itself well as a comfort food restaurant. This is a great restaurant to go to when you want an easy dining experience. It's close to home, easy parking, comfortable atmosphere, variety and yummy food on the menu, great selection of wine and beer, and the service is quick and dependable. This is a comfortable place to go when you just want to eat out without any hassles."

"On an early Sunday evening in March Jane's was uncrowded but this small, intimate space began to fill up by the time we left. Reservation would be a must later in the evening and a challenge for those that want privacy. The creative menu didn't overwhelm with too many choices (which I consider a good point) but did have a great variety sufficient to please all tastes. Our scallops with curry risotto and chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and with a divine sauce were both perfectly done. The warm truffle brownie for dessert was to die for. Of interest to foodies, the open grill behind the bar gave the opportunity to watch dishes in preparation. On street parking in the immediate area is pay to park but a block away we found free parking"

"We love this place. Chef Tony doesn't miss. The food is great and the place has 2 personalities; one side is dark and rustic the other side is bright and more formal. My wife and I go here on date night. they regularly have groupons. We take friends from out of town here to share great food and a Chicago institution."
