This waterfront locale is historically known as the launching site of our country's first submarine, the H.L. Hunley. "Continues to perform. First beach week with kids out of school and made reservations for Thursday at 7:30 PM. Dropped the car off and walked directly to our table.
Collin our waiter is top notch and very professional. Great service. Food was very good. Seared tuna, lobster tails, and crab cakes.
Only caveat would be the special Premium Mac and Cheese side. Nothing special and lacked flavor or any seasoning. Being an Ala carte menu to begin with, this is a little over the top."

"We live part time in Mt. Pleasant. The Boathouse is becoming one of our favorite restaurants by far! We dine there at least twice a month on the weekend. Food, service and staff are all great."

"The good: Lovely location, staff were exceedingly nice, & complimentary valet is nice.
The bad: We were escorted to the outside deck/patio area (screened in with ceiling fans). It was 5:30 pm on an 85 degree day and we felt like we were in an oven. The setting sun was in all of our eyes despite lowering all of the shades around us & it was SUFFOCATING in there. Zero circulation or breeze. We all started sweating immediately--we were miserable. We would have ABSOLUTELY chosen to sit inside in the air conditioning if given the choice. The food came out promptly but was nothing to write home about, quite bland, and there was definitely no "lumps" in the lump crabcake. Our conclusion: cheaper, tastier, & more comfortable to eat at home."

"The Boathouse was a very nice dining experience. David our server was knowledgeable about the menu and the offerings. The Gouda Mac n' cheese was very rich and delightful. I had the special of crab cake stuffed tilapia - very good, would have loved to have the crab cake a little more cripsy on the outside. Great atmosphere, good view, but a bit noisy on the deck."

"WE made 8:30pm reservation but added comments that we would like to eat earlier if possible. WE went hour early and notified the hostess of our comments and would be in bar. After 30 minutes went by the bartender asked if we got one of the electronic notifiers from hostess. we said she did not offer and he sent us down to get one. We waited another 40 minutes and finally went down to ask what the problem was? SHE said " oh are you ready ?". Tables were empty everywhere and we had watched people who came up after us without reservation go ahead of us. WE were not happy with this hostess and probably will not go back. The fish my wife got was very fishy tasting so they had to bring her something else."

"We had a short wait before our reservation time, so went to the rooftop bar to wait. The evening was spectacular, and we enjoyed watching the porpoise frolicking, the pelicans dive-bombing into the water, and talking with the other patrons. A GREAT precursor our dinner. The tables in the dining room were surprisingly (and somewhat uncomfortably) close together. But our waiter was cheerful and helpful, and the food was first rate. We'll be back!"

Lacked service, sever had too many tables unable to tend to us, had to ask for water a couple of times. Scenery was nice but overall I would choose another seafood restaurant with tastier food and better service."

"This has been one of my favorite fresh seafood hotspots for years. This being my first visit in a couple of years (due to moving away), we were quite disappointed to find the quality has markedly declined. Shrimp were over cooked with a rubber band chewiness in addition to the over done taste. For price, quantity was skimpy. Wife got crab cakes which were succulent. Unfortunately, the sauce was way too spicy, overwhelming the crab. When asked for a less spicy sauce, the kitchen informed us there were no less spicy sauces. Amazing that chef was unable or unwilling to go to the trouble to make a milder sauce of some kind. In spite of the outstanding waterside location, with interesting "mariner" views, The Boathouse has lost it's appeal."

"ordered a simple drink-Jack and Ginger- came with no liquer and club soda. took awhile to get waitress to let her know. she was no help. told her we could not drink it and shefinally asked if we wanted something else. did get a glass of wine. manager came by and was no more help than waitress. this used to be our favorite restuarant, but no more. may have lost a good customer."

"We've dined here quite a few times but this time was disappointing. Though we did have drinks (3), it was a bit overpriced for the quality of food and options. There wasn't much breakfast to choose from. No pancakes. No French toast. Only chicken and waffles. So I opted for a salad. Added chicken and the next thing I knew my salad was $15!! Lettuce, cheese, chicken and dressing. That's it. My husband had the shrimp po boy and he said it was just fair. Add another salad to the tab. And bam...$60! With tip it was $70 for brunch! We thought about going to Toast downtown. Should have! Hope they get it back on track. I have loved Boathouse for years. The tab wouldn't have been so hard to pay had the food been as good as I had remembered!"

"Nice restaurant with beautiful view and atmosphere. Only disappointment was the portion size of the entrees for the price. I had the broiled seafood platter. They were out of the tilapia for the dish so I asked to double up on the scallops. It did not look like they doubled up. Very few, small scallops & shrimp. I would expect more and larger sizes on each. I think the platter woud have been more fairly priced at around 14.99. Also had a couple drinks on the top deck while waiting on table to be ready. Nice atmosphere bu no music playing. Not even a stereo. Would be a great place for accoustical live music as well.
On a scale of 1 to 10 based on other restaurants in the area I would give the Boathouse a six."

"The Boathouse continues to be great. We enjoyed the view and the crabcakes are some of the best in the area. Watch dolphins while you eat. The gouda mac and cheese was also a favorite. The valet parking is entertaining-don't be in a hurry to get your car back. No fault of the valet guys...they take their lives in their hands crossing the busy street to park."

"The atmosphere, views of the water and the food were outstanding! They offer complimentary valet which is very nice as the parking area is pretty small. We started with the sesame seared tuna, fried green tomatoes and calamari. All were outstanding. Our entree's ranged from fried seafood to steak and each was prepared as requested and were delicious. The staff is very attentive and friendly!"

"We've dined here on several occasions and never been disappointed. Their seafood is top notch. A nice option is you may order whatever is the fresh local catch, say grouper and then have it prepared several different ways. My husband's favorite is Thyme Roasted. Outstanding! This visit, I stayed with the specials of the evening - starting with a lovely Gazpacheo + Avocado. It was spiced very well and just enough to whet the appetite for Blackened Salmon with Truffle Grits and Spinach. This was a wonderful combo and cooked to perfection. We tend not to dine here during the busy summer months as the place gets packed. Reservations are recommended. Oh I almost forgot to mention, they have an outstanding Raw Bar. Fresh oysters + clams"

"They really went above and beyond. I had ordered some chocolate covered strawberries from 1800 Flowers and requested they be delivered to the restaurant. The flowers arrived but the strawberries did not. Soooooo I had shown up 30 Mun before our birthday girl and spent 30 min on the phone with them. The bartender and manager did everything to ensure that they Haag not somehow been delivered and possibly hidden in the kitchen. In the end we discovered they had never been delivered, but the manager had his staff make us done freshy from the kitchen, no charge, and completely surprised the birthday girl and totally made everyone's night!!"

"The seafood was good and nicely presented, but the staff was not up to the same standards. After checking in on time for my 8:30 reservation, I was sent to the bar to wait.. and wait. After 45 minutes I went back to the hostesses for an ETA. They both started laughing as they explained that they never wrote down that I had arrived. He he he. I figured this was an isolated incident, but my waitress was equally air-headed. The final experience of the evening was the waitress taking my husband's steak to wrap,,, never to return! At least the valet didn't lose the car."

"My husband and I were celebrating our first anniversary. We arrived prior to our reservations so we could have some drinks at the roof top bar and watch the Charleston sunset. Our table on the porch that i requested was ready right on time despite the fact the restaurant was extremely busy. Our food was outstanding. I had the crab stuffed tilapia and my husband had grilled swordfish. The smoked gouda mac and cheese is to die for. It was the first time eating at the Boathouse and we definitely will be returning soon. I suggest making reservations."

"My pina colada and corn and crab chowder were not what I expected. Owner came by as well as waiter and glanced at my untouched soup bowl and drink and just smiled -- never asked why I had not eaten it. My friend only ate half of her soup -- it was smoky with an odd taste and no crab. My pina colada was on ice. It was my fault for waiting for the waiter to ask what was wrong. I should have called him over but he was too interested in socializing with the rest of our table at the other end."

"Despite having a reservation on a cold, rainy day and missing out on the gorgeous view, we were still glad we kept our plans and dined at the Boathouse. The atmosphere was cozy and the seafood did not disappoint. A bustling atmosphere no doubt compounded by the out-of-town visitors in Charleston for graduations the first weekend in May, our service did not suffer. We enjoyed salad and entree courses with a chilled bottle of wine-- the food was as fresh as we had hoped, the only complaint being an incorrect salad dressing and slightly cold risotto with our scallop dish. All in all, we hope to return for a dinner near sunset to enjoy the view of the inlet very soon."

"We chose this restaurant based on reviews and were not disappointed. The food was hot and very good. Unfortunately, it was a cool, rainy evening, so the sunset was not available. The strong winds caused the "tarp windows" to flap noisily. Choose a lovely evening and get ready for a special time."

"One of the best dinners I have had in a long time! The staff was so friendly and helpful, the view was outstanding with the dolphins playing nearby, and the food was wonderful and so fresh...all three of my friends concur that it was one of the best dinners they have had in a long time as well!
Service was friendly and the manager even walked out of the building to take pictures for us before our dinner arrived!"

"Lovely casual boathouse with a large menu and good food! We enjoyed the special of the evening, soft shell crabs which were deep fried. We sat out on the patio, and although the weather was inclement, it was very comfortable. Would love to return when the weather is better."

"Great location, view and outdoor spaces! Service was good. But food was just decent - crab appetizer tasted like it was made long ago or bought pre-made. Steak was good, but side of veggies come over cooked, and Mac and cheese is bland and flavorless. The seafood pasta tasted just of cream and nothing else. They need to work on seasoning and a fresh taste to match the water front spot."
