Steakhouse 85 is a 21st century rendition of the classic American Steakhouse. The menu at Steakhouse 85 is comprised of fresh and inspiring modern day interpretations of classic American cuisine, served alongside the traditional steakhouse classics we all know and love. The back bone of our menu is without a doubt our beef. Our mouth watering dry aged steaks are rubbed with a simple yet luscious combination of sea salt, black pepper and fresh herbs. They are seared on a 1200 degree cast iron grill and then broiled to your liking. Paired with a large classically designed bar, complete with savvy cocktails and a Wine Spectator award winning wine list, this steakhouse is sure to please.

"The aged steak: "del monaco" is to die for !!! This steak is so good as served, it would be a great insult to put sauce of kind on this meat. So TASTY, u just want go "caveman" on it. Believe me, I thought about picking that slab of steak up with my hands, bite into it & lick my fingers. But social etiquette suppressed that primal instinct. Yep, The steak is that good !!!"

"My two daughters treated me to a wonderful dinner at Steakhouse 85 for this past Mother's Day. We were greeted and seated by the owner, which was a plus. Our server was outstanding with care and presence at just the right times. I am very particular about my steaks and don't seem to have much luck with restaurants cooking them right. But to my surprise my steak was perfectly done as ordered. We shared some appetizers and side dishes. I was a little disappointed in some of them however. The mozzarella and prosciutto, my favorite, was actually served heated which I did not enjoy. Our sides of scalloped potatoes, mac and cheese and asparagus were good, but nothing to shout about.

"We had the house-made specialty pineapple cosmo and it was excellent! I ordered a steak (yum) and it was perfectly prepared (the exact right temperature) and presented. My companion had the stuffed shrimp which she claimed was marvelous! The service was attentive, informative and professional, but not fauning. The only disappointment was the Bananas Foster dessert. It was melted and the bananas were nearly non-existent. Overall rating 95 out of 100."

"My husband and I have been to Steakhouse 85 a few times now, and we love it every time we go there. The restaurant has a nice, relaxed atmosphere and the wait staff are friendly and professional. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the tuna tartare, petite filet mignon, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, and the bananas foster for dessert. Also great for special occasions--my husband and I loved it so much here that we had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Steakhouse 85 2 years ago!"

"we were a large group- 11 and it is difficult to get everything right for so many. starters were the tuna tartare, beet salad, and 1 wedge. everyone was pleased. there were 2 porterhouses for 2, one of which arrived overdone. it was sent back, but the waiting is always uncomfortable. 2 strips steaks were good. one chicken and 1 salmon was pleased. 2 had the crab crusted grouper which was good. the sides were larger than described and easily went around the table. DH and 1 other waited forever for coffee."

"Never before have I had such a great night out with friends. I know it's contrary to a "good" review, but I'm at a loss for words; the food was amazing, the service was highly attentive, and the particular Saturday evening I was there had a live jazz band performing, which really filled out the ambiance of an already outstanding establishment. Some may balk at the price tag of the night, but it's an experience truly worth every penny. Get dressed up, and take your spouse here! You'll both have a blast. Know someone with a birthday coming up? Hint that Steakhouse 85 is the place to be. Basically, do whatever you have to in order to try this restaurant out. You'll thank me later."

"This is a great restaurant. Has the best burgers and steaks in New Jersey! A bit pricy, but worth the money for special occasions. I like the side dishes, such as mashed Yukon and sweet potato casserole. Professional friendly waiters and waitresses aim to please and are attentive without being overbearing. "Steakhouse 85 was AMAZING!! It is pricey, therefore I would really recommend it for special occasions. My boyfriend and I split the tuna tartar as an appetizer, which was incredible. He ordered the mashed potatoes and the regular filet mignon as his entree. The potatoes were silky and delicious, while the steak was tender and succulent. I ordered the crab encrusted Florida grouper. My entree came with wilted spinach in a white wine and caper sauce. It was to die for. Furthermore, both portions were extremely generous. I ended up taking half of my dinner home. Great experience. I highly recommend it."

"One of the best restaurants in Central Jersey. Although it is an excellent steakhouse, they have a great choice of seafood in both appetizers and entrees. The sides are out of this world. Try the truffle Tater Tots and the Mac-n-cheese. The bar seemed to be hopping and the live music was great. Our waitor was on the money. He was very helpful and really knew his stuff. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Highly recommended."

"Steakhouse 85 can be hit or miss. On our current visit with my family it was a definitely a hit. Our reservation was honored almost immediately and we sat right by the fireplace. Our server was wonderful. All three of us had the petite filet, which was very tasty and we shared the yukon mashed potatoes and brussel sprout sides...all delicious. This restaurant is pricey so it works well as a special occasion place."

Steak - cowboy, bone-on filet, was good looking, properly cooked (medium rare) nice size but lacked good texture and tasted grass fed - great if that's what you want, not so much if you prefer corn-fed like me. Side of hash-browns was a a soggy mess. Came out about a 1/4 inch, crispy at the very edge but butter laden (& I like butter!). Very disappointing.
Wine list, by the glass, was narrow - 2 cabs. Neither much fun. Served too warm in a glass too narrow."

"Service and environment were excellent. The staff was friendly and the waiter was very knowledgeable. Parking was exceptionally easy as there is a parking garage directly across the street. Now on to the food. The bacon appetizer was fabulous, but to be honest I thought the steak would be better. I love steak. Now I didn't think that it would be as good as a Peter Lugers Steakhouse, but I thought it would be on par with say a Delmonicos is Las Vegas. But it was not. Dont get me wrong, the steak was good, I got the Tomahawk chop which is their dry aged bone in rib chop, but I was expecting better. Overall I would go there again and give them another shot. Even if I get an "okay" steak, I will have the best bacon I've ever had anywhere"

The Friday night date special was a really good deal...outstanding value.
The crab crusted grouper was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. All the food was really good. Wished I lived closer but I will absolutely go back whenever I go to the George St. Playhouse."

"Had large party for early dinner on a sunday. Food had little taste, service was terrible(with the restaurant being fairly empty). That's whst happens when you have a built in tip, servers don't care! Spoke to owner following day, who was concerned. Said if we come back, he'll take care of us. That's not likely to happen."

"Quality of the food rivals that of any NYC restaurant. The steaks are both tender and delicious. Sides are generous and yummy. Service was outstanding, including a visit to every table by the owner. Parking is convenient in the deck right across the street. And, Steakhouse 85 hosts many special events which "give back" to the community and especially Rutgers University."

"The steaks are very good but not for the price. The prices are comparable to Peter Luger and other NYC steakhouses but the quality is not. The only consolation is probably not having to travel to New York City and save on travel expenses to eat the steaks. Otherwise, great service and the food quality are one of the best for New Brunswick."

"In the 4 years that Steakhouse 85 has been open, it has never failed to out perform expectations. Without question, the food is the star of this restaurant with a tremendous supporting cast of wines, mixed drinks, and desertifs. The wait staff are attentive and aware of their customers' needs and interests. Executive Chef Bryan and his support staff in the kitchen turn out meals prepared with care and attention to the interests of the customers, as if each customer was the only customer. Without question, you should expect to pay for such quality. But the cost is well worth the experience of the senses that you have while here."

"Went on a Friday night for the date night special. Everything was fantastic. The filet mignon was so delicious. I keep thinking about the meal we had... and it was two days ago! The atmosphere can get a little noisy, but its obviously because everyone in the restaurant is having a great time. 85 is a great place for a date or group when you need just a little extra."
