"The food is unremarkable but good enough. The price is expensive. The wine list in particular is super marked-up, but that's the same at all the restaurants at the Hyatt. If you're looking for quiet/romantic time as a couple, outside seating is a must. Inside it can be noisier than you might hope for."

"We were seated for an early reservation indoors (we are in Hawaii, people!) while many tables outside on the beautiful patio remained unfilled for the entire duration of our dining experience .The picture of the restaurant on open table shows a lovely patio setting. When we asked about the possibility of sitting outside we were told that there are special requests that must be made for each table. How should each Open Table user know that special requests need to be made to be treated nicely? Is it necessary to ask for the best table on every reservation? This restaurant missed the chance for good common sense and customer service and the food and service were just so-so. The risotto was over cooked, mushy and too salty."

"We have dined at Dondero's each year on our annual visit to Kauai. When not overly busy, dining at Dondero's is memorable. When large groups are lodged at the Hyatt, the restaurant is heavily booked and there is not sufficient staff for effective attention. The restaurant can be overly noisy with fun seeking conventioneers. We have experienced that before, and unfortunately again on this visit. Fortunately, the food was outstanding. The dining pace was slow and not consistent with the expected elegant, romantic dining experience."

"The food was very good, but the service was incredibly slow. Our waiter was nice, but was much more interested in assisting the table of nine next to us rather than our table of two. We were at the restaurant for nearly two hours because of how long it took us to get each of our courses. We would recommend the restaurant, but just hope there aren't any loud large groups there at the same time."

"We were very disappointed with our experience at Donderos. After booking a table two months in advance, specifying a table on the patio with a view, we were taken to a table inside in the back. Pointing out our request, the hostess had us wait while others who came in later were seated. My husband ordered a coke and was served something awful; his opah was dry and overcooked; my chicken was hard on the edges. The couple next to us complained their red sauce was burnt and their meals were oversalted. All in all, a dismal dinner."

"We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Dondero's and were glad we did! Special attention was given to us, even a beautiful "Happy Anniversary" dessert to share (complimentary, of course)! My Ahi Tuna Carpaccio was divine and the Wild Mushroom Risotto left me wanting to order another serving; I've never tasted better risotto! The pasta is house-made and the flavors of all the dishes were remarkable. Presentation was exquisite! A very special evening!"

"Really enjoyed Dondero's! Both food and service were great. Prices are typical of upper scale restaurants in Kauai with dinner for two including appetizer, two drinks, entrees and desert running approx $165 with gratuity. You're in Hawaii........enjoy it. Will definitely return next time we're in Kauai."

"Fine dining in Kauai is at its best at Dondero's. The sausage pizzelle was fabulous... And big enough for two to share. The caprese salad was made with the freshest ingredients and the flavors were intense. The filet was tender, topped with gorgonzola, and served with a risotto that was creamy, but light. The wine list is complete and fairly priced considering the location (a high end resort on Kauai). Try the pomegranate martini... Mellows you out after a mellow day in paradise."
