"The campy, kitschy dining room (and apparently the talking waterfall in the men's room which I've never experieced) and wanting to get prime rib for my daughter's birthday were the reasons we went to Madonna Inn.

The quality of the food and service certainly do not warrant the hefty price tag charge.

Really, the only reason to go is to experience the bizarre environmnet.

The Copper Pot Cafe next door has much better food!"

"Very nice restaurant (and very pink!) Was there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Service and food were wonderful. He had the steak salad and he enjoyed it very much. I had the salmon and it was cooked prefectly! Will definitely make the trip from the Bay Area again to had dinner and stay at the hotel."

"We had an excellent bottle of wine with the complimentary garnish plate (celery, carrots, peppers, cheese, salami and olives) and bread. The salad was very fresh and cold. The dessert was very good as well. That ended the good experience with the food. The entrees tasted old and overcooked, french fillet and swordfish. My suggestion is you have to go to see the restaurant, so unique with the decor, but have a bottle of wine, salad, bread and dessert and skip the entree!"

"We made reservations, site unseen, and when we arrived it was clear that this restaurant was like a time-warp. Everything is pink and more than a couple of tables were celebrating birthdays (female birthdays). We wondered how they ever got the men to agree --- and then they served the stake. WOW! Dinner was great!! The clam chowder was possibly the best I have had and the stake -- you could get lost in the stake. The dance floor was hopping and the music was live and very good."

"We have enjoyed staying at the Madonna Inn and eating at the Gold Rush steakhouse many times over the past 40 years. We spent our honeymoon there, and because we were married on Valentine's Day we were really looking forward to our celebration dinner that evening. Unfortunately, the restaurant was overbooked and very crowded. We had an 8pm reservation and were not seated until 9:30pm. We were not served until almost 10:30 and that ruined was unacceptable to us. Food was expensive and my husband's rib eye steak was horrible. I had filet and lobster tail which the filet was wonderful but I would never order that entree again. Very disappointing - especially since we have had many romantic and delicious meals there in the past."

"My experience was very memorable. I loved the atmosphere and the service was great! I do wish that we had a better table, being our anniversary we sat at a table for two but was far apart and it was hard to hear each other talk privately. Other than that my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed the food. Our Filet Mignon was mouthwatering and baked potato cooked perfectly. Thank you for this unique experience. I do recommend this for a romantic evening or even an evening with the kids. It works for both flawlessly."

"My fiance' and I dined on a Wednesday evening so as to be expected the dining room was fairly empty. Our service was good and very freindly. The portions were very good size as we were both satisfied when we left. The food was flavorfull and presentation was appealing. We will definately return to the Steakhouse as well as the Inn. Very unique indeed.

"Our experience at the Madonna Inn Steakhouse was, overall, very positive. Both my husband and I ordered the filet and lobster, which was very good. We also had the coconut and lemon cake for dessert, which we also enjoyed.

The only negatives to our experience were that we had a 6:30 reservation, and we were not seated until 7:00pm. This was, I am sure, due to the overcrowding Valentine's Day brings, so we did not hold it against the restaurant too much. Our other negative issue was that they originally seated us at a small table that had been set up on the dance floor. Dancers were bumping into our table. We requested another table, and were moved. Still, not the best table, but at least it was off the dance floor."

"We had steak, and I am telling you, it was as they say. You could cut the steak with a fork. Service was somewhat slow. It did not seem that crowded, but it took almost and hour to get our food. "Don't bother eating here. Even though I had a reservation (booked through open table), I was made to wait for over an hour. And once I was seated, each time a server/bus person came by, they knocked the back of my chair. Clearly, everyone needs more training, even the manager. If you are curious about the decor, stop by and poke your head in to take a look and don't worry about missing anything else. The food is not good enough to warrant the price and the horrible service. It's too bad because I really wanted to love a kitschy place like this."

"The restaurant was great. The food and ambiance were excellent. Our waiter was nice, but we never saw him again after he took out order. We had to hunt him down to get our bill and water refills. The downside, we were sat next to a large family celebrating something, and they all found it necessary the entire dinner to sing religious songs at the top of their lungs and bang on the table to get everyone else in the restaurant's attention. They were very annoying and definitely not good singers. While I know this wasn't the restaurant's fault, I heard at least three other tables near us complain to the waiter and passing staff to have them quiet the table down, but it was never done."

"We were very dissapointed with Madonna. Don't get me wrong the food was excellent as usual our waiter was outstanding! But the bar service was terrible!!!They didn't now how to make a drink my wife ordered asked my wife how to make it and then charged me $11.50 for it then when she ordered another drink they didn't have a blender to make it!!!I also stated in my reservation that it was our 31st anniversary and there was no mention of it until I told the waiter and then he brought a ballon to our table. Madonna's atmostphere was also very different. Thank God we only ate there and did not stay there."

"I love Madonna Inn. One of the best features is the steakhouse. I always look forward to dining there whenever we stay, generally once every-other year or so. The filet is always tender and juicy. I gave the food 4 stars instead of 5, however, because the side dishes left a little to be desired. I had the rice pilaf and felt it was a little too bland. But other than that everything was perfect. We enjoyed the band and danced a little too, which capped off a great evening. We also indulged in dessert as well. I had the pink champagne cake, which is my favorite, and I partake in that every time we go. I am already looking forward to my next stay!"

"Food was good. My wife had the steak salad and I do not think I would suggest that item on the menu. It is a nice looking salad with fresh greens and a nice sliced steak on top but they sprinkle cheddar cheese over the steak and it seemed to overpower everything else.

We were there Christmas Eve so they were very busy and our waiter had trouble getting back to our table. He was very friendly and helpful though.

If you have not been to the Madonna Inn at Christmas it is a place to see. They have great Christmas ornaments and they really do a fantastic job decorating. I would recommend it just for the ambience."

"The Gold Rush Steakhouse is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion. We ate there on Jan. 1st with my daughter, son in law, and 2 grandchildren ages 8 and 11. The restaurant was still decorated for Christmas. Very "Disney" like with lots of details. My granddaughter exclaimed as she entered the restaurant that it "looked like Buddy (from the movie Elf) did the decorating." It was over the top and wonderful. We will return for a special occasion dinner within the next 2 years. The fillets are so tender and have great flavor."

"I went with my parents for a reservation at 6:30 pm on Christmas evening. It was bustling with people! WE signed in about 15 minutes before our reservation but did not sit until about 20 minutes after our original time ( 10 minutes to 7pm). I checked the status of our table and the hostesses were jovial and gave us a quick response. Our servers were attentive and kind (especially for working the holiday!). The food was extraordinary! EIt could not have been a better experience for the three of us!"

"Attentive and efficent service on our Christmas visit. We never feel rushed, had a booth near the dance floor big band playing not loud. Food was very good including the soup. Husband said his baked potato was drenched to much with butter next time will ask for the butter on the side. "Fantastic holiday dining as the Christmas decorations are amazing. Poinsettias line the walk way as you approach the hand carved oak doors. It feels like a winter wonderland. Very serene and relaxing. The food was prepared as requested. Timing between appetizer, salad and main course created a fine 1 1/2 hour dining experience. Pure white linen table cloths, ornate small candle holders, trademark rose water goblets and period china transports you back in time. Beautiful tufted pink curved settees are very comfortable. Festive ballons are brought tableside to those celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Child like nostalgic elegant ambiance abounds!!! Thank you Madonna family for caring & maintaining the quality all these years."

"The Madonna Inn is a funky place worth the time to see. Have a cocktail in the bar -they have their own wine label and the wines are pretty good. However, as far as having their special Thanksgiving dinner- I would skip it. Now, they are a steakhouse, and I have not tried their steaks which could be good. But the turkey dinner was a glorified version of Swanson's frozen version. The portions were small and dessert was not included. For $35 each, I would expect a bit more.

Also, we had a reservation but were not seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time. I understand that business can be unpredictable on holidays, but that was very unimpressive.

Take in the bar and move on to one of the better eating establishments."

"Worst experience for "fine dining" I have ever had. Insulted because we brought our own wine, server slow and unfamiliar with fine dining procedures (how to do a wine presentation properly, correct way to communicate running out of an item etc). Prices extremely high for quality of food. I am sure due to the continued success of this establishment that this was probably a unique experience but I will never be willing to "pay the price" to dine here again."

"We had an anniversary dinner on a Sunday and were seated in a nice booth towards the back of the restaurant. We were presented with an anniversary balloon and noticed another couple nearby were also celebrating their anniversary. Service and food were very good, and when we asked for the dessert menu, the waitress brought us a complimentary piece of cake. There was an unwelcome distraction, however, that bothered both couples. There was a DJ playing fairly loud music for dancing just the other side of our tables. This was in a bar and lounge area to the rear of the building. I think the proper approach for the restaurant would be to warn customers before seating them near the music, so an alternative table could be considered."

"It took a very long time from the salads to the entres, however one of the finest steaks I have had in a long time when they finally came. Wife and I both had the rib eye - outstanding - and the local wines we had a great Robert Hall Merlot at a very reasonable price. My mother-in-law had the bar-b-cued chicken, wonderful smokey favor, real wood taste. My 9 yr dauighter, wife and I shared a huyge piece of Black Forest cake, wonderful. Live band playing tradional music over in the bar, was great holiday atmosphere."

"We have lived on the Central Coast most of our lives and had never eaten at the steak house at Madonna Inn. We were celebrating a special occasion and wanted to finally check it out. We were very impressed and now know what all the hype has been about regarding Madonna Inn. We ordered the French Filet Mignon and the halibut and they both were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered a bottle of the Madonna Inn Castoro Cellar Cabernet, so smooth and tasty. We got the several layered chocolate cake for dessert and it was yummy! We would highly recommend Madonna Inn to anyone and everyone and we will definitely return!"

"I went to the Madonna Inn for my first time to celebrate my 28th birthday.The service was TERRIBLE.I bought a bottle for a toast it was hot.When I told the waiter my bottle of champaine was hot he insisted it wasn't and had to ask the beverage girl for a bucket of ice.The food was ok the bread that was served was soggie.At the end of the night I ordered a piece of cake.It was a total let down and really discourageing!!!!!My cake as well as my mothers cake was hard and dried out.Like bread pudding with out the pudding.It tasted like it had been sitting out for weeks and was hot, the cream was hard.When I asked for an eclaire the waitor said they didn't make them nov-dec.Leaving I visited the pastery part and saw them sitting in the cooler."
