"The steaks were very good quality meat done perfectly, but the wine reduction on the French Fillet was just salty and had no flavor of its own. The vegetables (surgar-snap peas) were way over done to the point of being limp and soggy. The tomato-basil soup was good and the old-fashioned relish plate was a nice touch.
The service was spotty -- we did not see the waitress for a long period and one of the other waiters kind of stepped in and picked up her slack when he saw our frustration. If he had been our waiter, I think the experience would have been better."

"We made reservations for our anniversary, and were not disappointed ..... we have had our last six Anniversary dinners at the Gold Rush Steak house. We are from the bay area, but
typically have spent our Anniversary, Birthday's, and Valentines day's for most of the last ten years in the Pismo Beach area. We always make dinner reservations for our dinner celebration at the Gold Rush steak house, and have never been disappointed by the service or food, this time was no exception. The menu has changed since out last visit and the selection is much larger and more variety then in the past, but the taste is great as ever. The Gold Rush steak is a perfect place for a romantic dinner, and you should also try the bar for a drink before."

"The Madonna Inn is a local landmark. Many people come here for a special occasion or celebration, as can be noted by the different balloons floating from nearby tables. The decor is one of the primary items of interest here, and is worth a trip to at least sit at the bar and take in the scenery.
What they do here is steak, and they do it pretty well. Expect to get a cut of meat that is tender, juicy, and cooked to order. The rest of the meal seems pretty average, including your baked potato and garden salad. The meal is slightly overpriced for what you get, but you are paying for the ambiance more than anything.
Wine list is a little sparse, but was all local options.
Don't skip dessert; plenty of options from the bakery next door."

"Alex Madonna's Gold Rush is legendary. The ambiance, decor, service, music, was perfect. The menu is a bit dated, but nonetheless very good. It is an old school dining adventure with lots of fun flare. My boyfriend and I will be back for sure and will recommend to all friends. You must room at Madonna Inn, eat a huge piece of cake at Copper Kettle, lay by the heated pool, dance in the ballroom, hike and to top it off you must eat at Alex Madonna's Gold Rush Steakhouse or else your not getting the full experience."

Although it was packed we waited only 5 min before being seated. Never having been to the Madonna Inn I was surprised at the gaudiness of the decor..but in a fun way. I fwlt as tho I had walked into wonderland. Our waiter was courteous but unnecessary as everything was self serve except for the bar. The food was basic breakfast food - omelet bar, frenxh toast, ham, sausage, fresh fruit
Dessert was also available bit was unremarkable."

"This is my second visit to the Madonna Inn. I wish for everyone to know that this hotel is the most enchanting hotel, bar, and restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The staff is warm and friendly, the grounds are something out of a storybook, and the food is something to crave until next you visit. The only thing I would change...where I live! I'd love to live around the corner so I could visit more! Thank you!"

"The entire property is known for being eccentrically decorated. Our group heard about their great beef. Sadly, the meat was not any better than any other restaurant that offers a variety of steak cuts. The sides, baked potato and green beans, were fair. Nothing extraordinary, except the price. The service was quite slow also. The big attraction was the decor. Consider lunch in the cafe style adjoining restaurant. The bakery looked interesting, but our group did not try any of the desserts."

"Very good. Abel was a great server. I am not fussy on a smokey taste on my steak but at least this was not too strong. I asked for medium well for my steak and it had to go back to make that happen. We went the next morning for breakfast, so all in all it was great."

"I love the Madonna Inn! The restaurant is fantastic, with pink banquettes and golden statuary all over. The staff is always super friendly. We each had salads on this trip, which were huge - more than enough for a whole meal. My only suggestion would be to add a few more lighter items to the menu."

"I was offended when I called in to book a reservation and was told everything was already taken. I was simultaneously on the website and was simply looking for a later booking for that night and was told to go somewhere else for the night even though there were openings at 5pm.
Later that night when my husband and I arrived, we found that the restaurant was pretty empty which added insult to injury given our previous conversation with the woman on the phone telling us to go elsewhere for the night. I spoke with the manager on staff that night and he told me that I needed to understand that he needed to leave open tables and she was right to not book us a reservation.
The management needs a review on a customer facing perspective."

"I took my wife here on our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. She loves the color pink so this was amazing to her. The food was delicious (particularly the Filet Mignon and champagne cake) and the pricing fairly reasonable for the Couple's Special, where they paired courses with good wine. A wonderful experience, if only I knew how to dance to the big band tunes that were played live."

"The restaurant was nicely arranged and the food was very good. However, they did seat us in a semi-bar area that turned over to a full bar scene within 30 minutes of our sitting down. Given it was a date night for us without our children, we felt rather disappointed with the seating choice given we'd made a reservation well in advance. The table next to us was crowded with people who were waiting to visit the dance floor, and one woman even changed her shoes right at the table in the seat next to me! The Manager quickly took care of the situation, reminding the patrons that this was the "restaurant portion" and moving them over to another table thanks to our excellent waiter!"

"They make Valentine's Day very special. I love the live big band and the great music they played. This is the second time we came here for this occasion. It does seem like the kitchen gets overwhelmed and it is hard to get the food out. It is still very special."

"Loved the steak, but found the side dishes mediocre (after all, what restaurant worth it's salt wraps baked potatoes in gold foil these days?). "Great and unique restaurant.Came in on the last day of restaurant month! So lucky!!!Cakes were the best part.Prime rib came out with a funny color. Service wasn't bad, but people were religious about just serving their own tables. When my server disappeared for 15-20 minutes, everyone else would divert any help that I asked for...=/"

"We had the worst dining experience ever, and the worst part is that we were spending the weekend with another couple ( best friends ) and they asked us to recomend the restaurants we were going to eat at Friday and Saturday night, Since we had such a great meal the first time that we ate at your restaurant we picked it for our dinner on Saturday night, and we ate at the Ventana grill at the Shorecliff Friday night and had a great dining experience, unfortunately at your restaurant on Saturday night when our food arrived everyones steaks and prime rib was either grossly under cooked, or grossly overcooked to the point of being ridiculous and I returned my Filet 2 times before they got it right, it was a total embarrasement to my wife and I."

"My husband and I called it the Madonna Experience. Two days and one night of just getting away! Glad we did it - - the ambiance is part Disneyland, part Hearst Castle. Very elaborate,very pink, over-the-top - Liberace style. FUN! The food didnt match up. I take that back: the abalone appetizer was outstanding! The rest of the meal, both mine and my husbands, was just "good" - like MY cooking. Not gourmet, not top chef, not amazing. For this reason, we will stay at the Inn again, but most likely not dine there again since there are so many other choices in the area where we can have GREAT food."
